Okay, we all love the Indy sets, since it's kinda hard not to. But one thing still bothers me about the theme -mainly the Lost Tomb kit. Because, frankly, what are Anubis statues doing in the scene that shows the Lost Ark?

I mean, of course TLC doesn't have to mention that "the ancient treasure really is the lost ark of the covenant between Israel and God," as that would probably be both unneeded and a magnet for lawsuits and other trouble. But those anubis statues kinda make the whole kit silly, since the scene in the movie obviously didn't have them. A 10 year old kid that watched Raiders of the Lost ark could probably figure out that something was wrong with his lego kit of the scene!

So, if I ever did get that kit, those silly statues would go into the parts bin for sure, replaced with big torches or something. ;-)

Does anyone else agree? Anyone disagree? Is there anyone that doesn't really care at all and thinks that I'm making too big a deal out of this? :-P

You make an intersting point Grevious, but let me share my thoughts on the subject.

1) I'm guessing that there may be Anubis statues in the real movie scene since the MOC is based on the movie. Let's see when the movie comes out.

2) I judge the set not on it's similarity to a movie scene nor historic significance (because this is adventure fiction to me), but rather the design of an ancient tomb. I actually like the Anubis statues and view this set as an Egyptian tomb.

This set reminds me of an Adventurers MOC I did a few years ago:

I had a similar discussion with Phes a few years ago. When I build something, I'm not trying to capture historic and/or realistic aspects, but rather just have fun - it's what Lego is all about. One can look at movies like Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones, and realize that scenes combine geographic places, as well as styles of different cultures and architecture. It adds a unique quality to scenes, buildings, and/or designs.

Sure, the history buffs will disagree, but the scenes are intended to be fiction (with some historic significance). My thoughts.

OK just to clear things up, the anubis statues are definitely 100% in the film, in fact there are four of them - (trust me I am a huge indy fan)

:-$ sorrry to be so blunt but I think you need to research a little when you start saying things like

since the scene in the movie obviously didn't have them

Before you are sure.

The Lost Tomb is an extremely good representation of the scene, if you ask me. Indy, Marion, the snakes, the statues, the torches, the skeleton, the Ark... it's all there. Even the hieroglyphic of R2 and 3PO shows up both in the film and in the set! No sir, pardon me, but I think The Lost Tomb is a brilliant set.

As far as my ranking goes, I'd say:

1. Motorcycle Chase

2. Lost Tomb

3. that set with the classic boulder and gold idol

4. the truck set

:-D :-D :-D Yes. LEGO designers do their research for sure. You should follow their example, Grevious. ;-)

However, I'm not sure how they justify the jewels in the ark of the covenant... *wacko*

there is an article in the new LEGO magazine that interviews one of the set designers. by the sound of it they had plenty of material to research from - archives and such.

- BM

I would love to read that interview. Would you be able to scan it?

i could... it will probably be late tonight though. i'll see what i can do.

Thanks! You dont have to hurry though. Just do it tomorrow or some other time, if you have more important things to do right now.

.... Woah, I never noticed that! Man, looks like Lego was totally right... :-$

Crud, I did it again.... but I guess I can't blame TLC for this silly addition - I can blame the makers of the movie! >:-)

Er, close this please. I think I've had enough embarasment for a while... :-|

Not quite - you do realise the Ark in the movie is in Egypt? Which explains the Anubis statues in the Well of Souls...

I wish the statues toppled in the actual movie...

-ZotS

They do :-D Well only one, because Indy climbs up on it and it tips over breaking through a wall reveling skellies.

I thought this set was a great representation of the film with Marion, snakes, Tipping Statues, 3PO and R2, the ark and the skellie room. *y*

Can't wait to buy this one!

in the article that Brick Miner was mentioning, it said that while the kids may not have an idea of the true significance of the chase, they can still give Indy a motive for the chase.

hope that helped :-)

I'm slightly confused, what jewels, do you mean the jewel at the top of the Last Tomb set since that's just for decoration. Or do you mean inside the treasure chest in the Race for the Stolen Treasure?

Race for the Stolen Treasure.

I wish the statues toppled in the actual movie...

Watch the movie, people. That's exactly what happens. And as Marion is trying to get through the walls, the dead bodies fall through, just like in the set. I bet if the designers who designed this set read this thread they would bang their heads against the wall until they passed out.

Oh... oops, sorry. I haven't watched the movie in a while... :-/

Does anyone remember those fantastic LEGO comics someone made? They were mainly about explaining the life of an AFOL to someone on the outside.

Something tells me this thread could be made into a very, very funny one.

No, I agree with this topic.

I also thought it was silly of TLC to include a horse in the Race for the Stolen treasure set, I mean, what the heck?

And also, in the Temple Escape set, why on earth is there a plane in that set? *wacko*

Come to think of it, I don't recall a giant boulder in Raiders either, TLC needs to research these things more.'

But the thing that really angers me is the inclusion of this made-up character "Indy" or whatever his name is. Who does TLC think they are, including this "Indy" character *wacko*

Batbrick is Back! >:-)

EDIT: And SW4J, I have seen that comic too, I can't remember where it was though, sorry.

Were those comics published in Brickjournal? also I think they took their idea of the so called Indiana Jones character from a dog and a famous Lego explorer ;-) .
