I esp. did this more when I was younger. As an example, I remember buying the Scorpion Tracker after seeing the movie, Mummy for the 1st time. After buying the one little set, I had to expand the collection. In any case, what movies have inspired you to build ADVENTURE Mocs? A few that I really enjoyed (from different decades) include: The Mummy (mentioned above) The Land the Time Forgot and sequel, The People that Time Forgot 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea King Kong (new version) Anaconda (not a really good movie, but it made me want to build River Expedition). What were some adventure movies that inspired you to build or buy? Quote
Piranha Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 The only adventure film that inspired me to build a MOC was: Jurassic Park (#1) I built the Raptor cage and tour car with track However this was before EB and no pictures exist X-D P Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 I built the Raptor cage and tour car with trackHowever this was before EB and no pictures exist X-D That's too bad. I would have liked to seen it. On a side note, I take pictures of all my MOCs now, even the ones I don't post to EB or MOC Pages. I didn't always do this, but just in case I want to refer to them in the future, I like to have the pictures. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Cool thread idea. The obvious ones that come to mind are the Indiana Jones movies. I was thinking about those when I got my first Johnny Thunder set. Some of my adventure creations were also inspired by the first Jurassic Park movie, Romancing the Stone, and the first half of King Kong. Quote
Shadows Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 All of the classic Mummy movies, and obviously the Indiana Jones series. Problem is, I've never (well, since my dark ages) had room to MOC much, so it's all just in my head. On a similar but more complicated level, the original Zorro merges my interest in Adventurers, Pirates, and Wild West into a new theme that sadly, we'll never see. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 You know, I never got into the Indiana Jones movies when they came out. In fact, I don't think I saw all three movies (at least the whole thing). Now I love the new Lego theme and am really enjoying my recent Jungle Diorama. I may just buy the three pack of movies and watch them all again. My Indy knowledge is pretty bad as well. You guys gave me an idea to start a list of these great adventure movies. I'll add to the 1st message. I should also mention Casablanca and African Queen, two outstanding classics. Oh, and one other, the Last Dinosaur, a 1977 B-dinosaur flick starring Richard Boone. Quote

Batbrick Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Some of my earlier endeavours that I sadly did not take pictures of took a lot of inspiration from the Indiana Jones flicks. I also took a lot of heavy inspiration from the many B dinosaur movies that existed, namely ones that took place on the cliche Island that Time Forgot and whatnot. Another one was the oiginal King Kong, which am proud to say I own on DVD, for the cheap, cheap price of five dollars. Don't talk to me about Son of Kong though, err, that was a horrid affair. My Lego creations were often dinosaur related, I did and still have a fascination with dinosaurs, so Jurassic Park and The Lost World were inspiration as well. I was surprised that you included Romancing the Stone in your list TheBrickster, as some consider that a part ripoff of Indy. I like it though, I'm a bit uncertain on the sequel: The Jewel of the Nile. My Deep Sea Walker (see sig) took a lot of inspiration from sea monster movies, like the original Godzilla, and a few forgettabl ones. I haven't seen all of 20, 000 leagues, but what I have, including the Kraken footage, did factor into thhe moc, atleast creatively. Thanks for this nice topic too TheBrickster, you certainly are a bit of a movie buff ;-) Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 My Lego creations were often dinosaur related, I did and still have a fascination with dinosaurs, so Jurassic Park and The Lost World were inspiration as well. I always enjoyed the old dinosaur and monster movies, esp. those with special effects by Ray Harryhausen. He was known for his stop motion model animation and did movies like Clash of the Titans, Valley of the Gwangi, Sinbad, and many others. He was a pioneer in special effects. I also enjoyed movies from stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Jules Verne and HG Wells. All of whom were great authors of adventure movies. I recall building a few adventure planes when I was a kid, after watching some of these classic movies. How fun! I've added a number of movies to the list. Quote

He was known for his stop motion model animation and did movies like Clash of the Titans, Valley of the Gwangi, Sinbad, and many others. He was a pioneer in special effects. Harryhausen was a genius, his work on Beast from 20,000 Fathoms was great. I always loved stop-motion creatures, you could just see the effort taken to create them onscreen. I may have to make a monster movie scene in Lego one day. Which brings me to Willis O'Brien, his stop-motion King Kong scenes are my favourite to this day. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote

Batbrick Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Oh, definately. You should build a King Kong scene. That would be awesome! I'll add it too the list of must-do mocs then. I'll just have to find a fig thats good for Fay Wray, unless I do it in miniscale. That might look good actually, a mini Kong and Allosaurus duking it out! :-D Anyway thanks, I hadn't thought of that until this thread. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Athos Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 It wasn't really too adventure-y, but the Marx Brothers' Animal Crackers movie had Groucho playing an African explorer/big game hunter and had some funny lines about Africa. Steve Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 It wasn't really too adventure-y, but the Marx Brothers' Animal Crackers movie had Groucho playing an African explorer/big game hunter and had some funny lines about Africa. Never saw this one, but I will add it to the list. Sounds pretty good (reading the plot on IMDB). Another great classic is a movie called Bad Day at Black Rock. It's more of a Western adventure (although it takes place after WWII in an old town in the desert). Spencer Tracy plays a one-arm man returning from the war to deliver something to a man who lives in this town. The townspeople are trying to hide a secret though, and stop at nothing to do so. It has a great story and an all-star classic cast. Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I know you've got the Disney live action version but may I add 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 1916. Quote

Athos Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 This list is great. I just signed up for netflix and have been filling my queue with these suggestions. Steve Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 I've added a few more excellent movies, and will keep adding as I think of more. Feel free to share some if you think they're worth seeing. I'm not really doing Castle/Medieval, but rather Adventure. Quote
Scouty Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 It hasn't spurred me to make a MOC, but would be interested in doing so when I saw this: TombStone Quote

I wanted to do a separate thread for Westerns. You'll notice that I haven't added any of my favorites (like the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly). Quote

WesternOutlaw Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 To add some more namesMogambo (1953) Swiss Family Robinson(many versions) Swiss Family Robinson has to be on the list. It's a classic. I listed the 1960 Disney version since it was pretty popular. I added Mogambo, but never saw it. Keep them coming. I've been adding to the list over the past few days when I think of a new one. Quote
