WesternOutlaw Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Hello all Pirates, Swashbucklers, Armada, and Islanders: I'm looking to obtain a little information about Islanders set 6292, Enchanted Island. I have read through some info about the set (which seems to be the most favorite of the Islander sets around these parts), but I'm looking for some additional info. I'm looking to obtain this set MISB and was wondering what a fair price is (here in the US). In addition, are there any differences between this re-released Legend from the original set (6278) (such as stickers, different pieces, BURPS, cheaper parts, etc.)? Should one pursue the Legend or the original set? I'd appreciate any info any of you could provide. What a great set and this would make an outstanding addition to my Jungle Adventure. Quote
QuartermasterRobert Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I'm new to the Lego Lingo, but what is "BURPS"? As for the set itself, I was never too interested in the Islanders themselves, but the baseplate for that set is both stylish and has excellent MOC capacity. Also, the bridge is cool-ish, as is the statue, and you DO get like what, 5 or 6 Islanders in that set? The canoe and rowboat are also good additions for MOCs. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 I'm new to the Lego Lingo, but what is "BURPS"? Big Ugly Rock Piece. I think both sets may contain one or more. I'll check Peeron for this, but I'm really wanting to know if the Legend is different than the original in any way. Quote

You mean those rocks that appeared ALOT in the Divers series, as well as smaller Pirate sets? Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted March 7, 2008 Governor Posted March 7, 2008 I'm looking to obtain this set MISB and was wondering what a fair price is (here in the US). Even these release set are starting to fetch high prices in MISB condition. At present the cheapest on BrickLink is US$96.00. In addition, are there any differences between this re-released Legend from the original set (6278) (such as stickers, different pieces, BURPS, cheaper parts, etc.)? The main difference is the design on the box. As far as I'm aware everything else, including the instructions is identical to the original. Should one pursue the Legend or the original set? Depends what you plan to with it. At the moment the original is US$85.00 on BrickLink. You could get one described as "Complete! Parts in perfect conditions" for US$40.00 So if you're planning on building it, do you really want to pay an extra $45 for the pleasure opening a MISB set? If you were planning to keep it as a collectors item then yeah, $85 seems fine for original to me and I may well buy one myself for that price. But for MOCing or building purposes I'd say it's a bit steep when you can get one in good condition for half the price. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 Thanks for the info Phez. I did check the prices onBricklink, but was really wondering if the price range for a MISB was a fair one. I understand that a few stores in Europe had this set on clearance and that the Islanders theme was not as popular as the main Pirate theme. I would pay the extra for a MISB set, as I do like my pieces new. I'm not sure if I would part this set out or set it up in its entirety as part of my Jungle Adventure. I would probably keep the set intact, and the use of the natives would be excellent. I like the canoe as well. While I like the baseplates, not sure how they would look on my existing water mat. In any case, thanks for the info. If anyone else has some tips or info about this great set, please let me know. Quote
SlyOwl Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 (edited) Firstly, it's an awesome set! I'm looking to obtain this set MISB and was wondering what a fair price is (here in the US). Here in England, Edited March 7, 2008 by SlyOwl Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 7, 2008 Governor Posted March 7, 2008 Ahhhh... That makes the difference then. But no doubt that price has happened before, at least once, somewhere in the world. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 Nothing under $100 MISB here in the US. It seems pricey, but I would love to have a new one in a pristine box. I really regret not buying the Legend when it was available through SAH for $70. I purchased most of the Legends, not sure why I didn't pick this up at the time. Thanks for the info. I esp. like the natives and the baseplates. This would fit in so well with my Jungle. Quote
Athos Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I was looking to pick up a second one. I really like the baseplates. I gave up as it seems to be quite pricey here and there are so many new sets I want. I have the re-release and it didn't seem to have anything different, though I can't say for sure, since I don't have the original. Steve Quote

Do you collect boxes?I really regret not buying the Legend when it was available through SAH for $70. I purchased most of the Legends, not sure why I didn't pick this up at the time. Because you're silly :-P I regret not buying two or three or maybe more. Thanks for the info. I esp. like the natives and the baseplates. WesternOutlaw Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 How come you want a pristine box? Do you collect boxes? It doesn't have to be prestine, but getting an old set in a new box is like getting a new set. I save all my sets in their original boxes, but I would open this one. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 9, 2008 Governor Posted March 9, 2008 I find putting sets back in their box when not in use is a great way to store them. It doesn't have to be prestine, but getting an old set in a new box is like getting a new set. You're definitely right about that, but 99% of the time I would not open a MISB Pirate set. However, there are certain exceptions I make. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I would always go for the original set as it is well. Um.... The original. That way even if you had already used it it would still be worth more in the long run if you decided to sell it. Regards, Captain Zuloo ;-) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 10, 2008 Governor Posted March 10, 2008 Without the box the original set is no different to the re-release. So if you open it and trash the box both the original and re-release are worth the same, so long as the pieces are in similar condition. Quote
