WesternOutlaw Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 My latest MOC related to Jungle Adventure, Crocodile Bridge. This build was inspired by a great Playmobil set, Crocodile Swamp. Unfortunately, I don't have any photo-editing software on my computer at this time, so these are all unedited photos. First, Playmobil's Crocodile Swamp (Inspiration Image): And for my Lego rendition: The two adventurers making their way across the bridge: Jungle Johnny in Indy gear: And his partner: A native shrine to ward off treasure hunters: I must say that the photos of this did not do it justice. My lighting is rather dim and I didn't want to wait until the AM to take these shots. Had I added some nice jungle box art, this would look 100 times better. Quote
Shadows Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I like it, it looks very true to the original and would serve well as a scene in an imaginary jungle adventure. ;-) Only thing I would add are some green whips to serve as vines, especially on the left burps. Oh, and in the Playmobile version, what are the red things at the adventurer's feet? It almost looks like a frog... Overall, excellent job! *y* Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 Thanks for the comments IS. Only thing I would add are some green whips to serve as vines, especially on the left burps. That would be a nice idea, but I don't have any. Oh, and in the Playmobile version, what are the red things at the adventurer's feet? It almost looks like a frog... Yes. They are lilly pads with frogs on them. I own this Playmobil set. Their Jungle sets were among my favorite theme (next to Western). Here's afew more shots taken on another camera. I was having trouble with lighting and the color just doesn't seem right: Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 It looks very good as imperialshadows said it's faithful to the original. I like the little shrine it's very good. The only thing I have a question over are the sunglasses on one of the minifig, it just feels a little out of place. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Very nice, Brickster :-) A great rendition of a great playmobil set! The BURP on the right is nice, but I feel that the brown BURP could do with a bit of work. The top of it looks a little too flat for me, and the side is rather plain. Adding some more shrubs and rocks would make it very nice though, as would adding one of these climbing up the side. ;-) Other than that small nitpick, this is a good little MOC. Are you planning on adding this to your existing jungle scene? Quote
hollisbrick Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Sweet Moc! nice and simple, i *wub* how you use backdrops! *y* Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 The only thing I have a question over are the sunglasses on one of the minifig, it just feels a little out of place. I was going for the Vin Diesel look - sort of the cool adventurer. I actually like the face. I feel that the brown BURP could do with a bit of work. The top of it looks a little too flat for me, and the side is rather plain. Adding some more shrubs and rocks would make it very nice though, as would adding one of these climbing up the side. ;-) You're absolutely right. In looking at it again, it is too plain. I actually had the piece your suggesting and was trying to figure out a nice way of attaching it. I didn't have any 1x1 brown hole pieces handy, so I left it off. Are you planning on adding this to your existing jungle scene? It was just something I wanted to try. I already destroyed it last night. I had to wreck a number of things in the jungle to build it. I wanted things back to how they were. Sweet Moc! nice and simple, i *wub* how you use backdrops! *y* Thanks H-Brick. I think some nice boxart would have really made this look better (and better images). I couldn't take them without the flash, and when I did, the color was off. I don't often say this, but the actual MOC looked 100 times better than the images. Quote
Turaga of Force Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Very nice! I like the green snake and the shrine with Achu's mask, they are really nice details. It's very original, and has a similar feel to the jungle Adventurers sets (my favorite theme) Great job! Quote
Batbrick Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Sorry TheBrickster, I should have commented on this a while ago :-$ I really like this moc, you have done a great job capturing not just the set, but the mood and spirit of the Playmobil version. I must say that they both look great. Though you've used BURPs on both sides, I actually don't mind, it works quite well and doesn't distract from the rest of the excitement. It would be great to see this in your jungle scene. The only improvements I could think of would be some more foliage on the rocks, particularly the brown one, though I understand you have a shortage of those no? All in all, a great little scene, I like that you've adapted a scene from one collection to another *y* To the Bricksignal! >:-) Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 12, 2008 Author Posted March 12, 2008 Thanks fellas. Playmobil had some really terrific jungle sets that I picked up a number of years ago. This, among others, would have made a great theme. While the Egyptian/Desert adventure sets were terrific, Lego's jungle sets weren't as good (with the exception of maybe River Expedition among my top few favorite sets). Lego could have really expanded the jungle adventure theme with more sets like this. More jungle traps, bridges, and jungle ruins to name just a few set ideas that would make great adventure sets; not to forget perhaps even adding some wild animals like tigers, panthers, and gorillas. I appreciate the feedback although the pictures really came out bad. Photographing at night with dim light just doesn't look good. In any case, thanks for the feedback. Quote
WarnIcarus Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I love the minifigs. I really like the way Johnny Thunder looks with his Indy-saddle bag. The set looks great too, kudos! Quote
jedikermit Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Very cool--the perfect setting for an adventure! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 12, 2008 Author Posted March 12, 2008 I love the minifigs. I really like the way Johnny Thunder looks with his Indy-saddle bag. The set looks great too, kudos! Thanks. I really like the green-shirted Johnny Thunder. He comes from the small Orient Expedition Jungle River set. I thought he came out pretty well with the new hat and satchel too. Very cool--the perfect setting for an adventure! Thanks J-Kerm. See this thread if you're interested: Imaginary Jungle Adventure List Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 12, 2008 Governor Posted March 12, 2008 I'd get rid of the Adventurer mini-figures are replace them with Imperial Armada min-figures X-D Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 12, 2008 Author Posted March 12, 2008 I'd get rid of the Adventurer mini-figures are replace them with Imperial Armada min-figures X-D What kind of a critique is that Phes? I'll draw your attention to and older MOC/display featuring a member of the Armada: I think the caption read, "Passing by Port Legend. There's the Blacksmith's Shop and the Guarded Inn along the docks. Hey look, there's Phes waiting for his ride. "Don't let him on", the sailors yell!" :-D In the case of this MOC; however, they were the first to die in quicksand. *skull* Quote
