Introduction

First off, welcome to All-Star EF.

Now, I'm an EF fan, and I really like this years (sadly, last) sets. I also liked the first year of sets, and while they weren't perhaps amazing mechs, they're no worse than I can do, as a non-mech builder. But I felt that some of the designs could be improved nonetheless. I decided that rather than simply MOD them as I do with my most of other sets, I'd rebuild them putting my own stamp on them.

And so All-Star EF was born.

The project was so named because DC has recently had All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder and All-Star Superman, bold new interpretations of our favourite heroes (in Batman's case, very bold). And since that was essentially what I wanted to do with EF, then I decided to borrow the name.

These are my versions of EF sets, that evoke the original official model, but also provide a more practical, more 'cool' version. I only hope you like them.

All-Star Uplink

I know that pic isn't very clear, but you get the idea.

So I figured, well, Ryo is an inventor so surely he'd be able to invent something more practical and more beefy than Uplink. I was rather fond of the original in a way, so I kept some of the details the same. Notice the shoulder pads and the control panel in the cockpit. I added a windscreen/cockpit for protection, and hands so that Uplink can grasp things when Ryo is perfroming battlefield repairs.

On the sides of the legs we have a wrench, a large spanner, a small hammer and a screwdriver, ready for use by Ryo.

This one's just so you can get a look at my hand  .

This is not a flamethrower, it's a blowtorch. Yes, I know it's a funny looking blowtorch, but this is EF (sorry, that's quite a bad pic as well).

099a.jpg

Notice there's something missing from the back...

100a.jpg

Wait for it...

101a.jpg

Hang on...

102a.jpg

It's a minigun. Well, he's an engineer, not a soldier. It makes sense he'd only have a small protection-only gun.

And there we have it. See more pics in the gallery here, and look out for All-Star Gate Defender coming soon.

Really really cool! It is like a combination of the 07 and 06 smaller mechs in one. Really great.

Thanks. For this one, I actually did simply graft Uplink bits onto Cyclone Defender. It just seemed appropriate somehow.

Great stuff here Brainbox, I love how you've updated the Uplink. Mow i know you love DC, but even I find the "All Star" tag a bit of a stretch

(Speaking of which, I started reading the All Star Batman last month and couldn't stop laughing). Back on topic, you've done a great job of rebuilding it, you're a better builder than you give yourself credit for. The shoulder pads are very clever and so is the flamethrower (), you've odne a good job of updating it, looks like it would go great alongside the River Dragon. Can't wait to see more, thanks for sharing!

Thanks WS and Batbrick.

"I'm the Goddamn Batman."

"He's the Goddamn Batman.

"Hot-damn. It's the Goddamn Batman"

etc.

Why thank you. I'm particuarly pleased with the shoulder pads actually. I like the angular 'over the shoulder' look.

that´s a well thought-out mecha, very functional and cool.

The gun on the back, the hands and forearms, the neat blowtorch, the tools and the solid design of the feet.... very well done!

Great job, Brainbox

Nice to see Uplink as hands too, now.

I  the minigun, and the blowtorch is a nice addition. You really studied Ryo's character, and built the AS Uplink around him.

Excellent! You've really managed to give ol' uplink a lot more beef while still keeping it recognizable. And that flamethrowerblowtorch is SA-WEET. :sweet:

So, what are you going to do next in this series (after gate defender)? I think it would be nice to revamp a robot mech next, if you're going to do robot mechs at all.

Thanks guys.

I really like that blowtorch. That in itself is inspiring. I think it is it's simplicity that really makes me l;ike it. I may have to borrow that in the future.

Feel free. And to think I wasn't sure on the blowtorch design

You beat me to it as I planned the same thing.

AFOLs really think alike, huh?

Gate Defender next, then Sentry, then Fire Vulture. They're both already done, I just need to get the photos sorted. I'm planning to do the heavy Sentry/ Sentry mark 2 from the gate set after that, as I have an idea for that.

"Who are you?"

"Are you dense? Are you retarded or something? I'm the goddamn Batman!"

That said, it wal also funny to see him mock the poor kid the very same night his parent's were shot to death in front of him and then suggest that he try and find a rat to eat in the batcave!

Why thank you. I'm particuarly pleased with the shoulder pads actually. I like the angular 'over the shoulder' look.

That's alright, the shoulder's look great too, nice touch. It's actually a bit ironic, you take great pride in admitting your DC knowledge yet seem to be very huble about your building skills. Nevertheless, you are a good builder, I particularly like how you have not coated it in orange or armour as I would've, it still keeps that distinct EF look.

Thank you  .

Perhaps it's because this is a Lego site, and while I can show off my fanboyism without being contradicted, I can't show off my AFOLism to the same extent, as we're all the same (relatively speaking). Or perhaps it's just the puzzle that is me.

Ah, an uplink as God intended him to be from the start.

I like the setup and design, blocky enough to be LEGO and with enough of the smooth new type parts to look cool.

MOC on!

Thanks. Now just wait till you see the others in the series.

Great lineup! I've always been a fan of Fire Vulture, and I can't wait to see what it looks like now!

Hopefully, you'll be impressed. I won't go into detail, but suffice to say, it's noticeably different...

This Uplink is extremely cool!

I already liked the original model, but your improved version really is the cherry topping

It would be supercool if you would try your hands on improved alternates. The Uplink speeder is just so cool

Oh, and since you already mentioned you are an EF fan, how about participating in Project Sentai Mountain?

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps I might give it a go sometime.

Just let me go and have a look what it is...
