Hey guys, this is my attempt at making a marching band. The uniforms are based on the uniforms of "The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Association, Ontario" since I couldn't get my hands on enough of the navy blue colour figs for making real RM band uniforms. also, my printer isn't the best so the red is off by a bit :sceptic:

Ok, I saw the title and expected a guy with a drum and a guy with a horn. Maybe a guy with a baton.

All I can say is... wow! That's a very nice looking band, and an excellent variety of uniforms and instruments. I am definitely impressed.

Would you consider sharing your decals? Perhaps some tips on how you did all of that for anyone who would like to try it themselves?

Seriously, great job! :sweet:

...

Same here.

This is most impressive.

I love the Saxophone!

I like the drums too. That's a great idea and i may have to steal it for my drummer. :pirate:

Completely brilliant! The sash on the Drum Major, the helmet plates, the glockenspiel... all fantastic. Is the large drum attached to the animal skin like the side drums (loop through the drum decal)?

Wow!

I would recommend for drumsticks to not use the whole gearstick, but instead either crimp the round bit that slots into the base until it fits a minifig hand or to buy the rarer ones whose end piece is already minifig compatible

*Oh noes, is the captain been eating Slyowls shrooms again?*

Oh noes...

Yeah, I did that here:

Wow! Just wow!

Made me wonder if making a LEGO bagpipe is possible without sculpting it.. (me? mad? nooooo )

I could actually hear the drums while looking at the pictures! :pir-wub:

*Oh noes, is the captain been eating Slyowls shrooms again?*

I could hear them too  (probably caused in part by the fact that tomorrow is the Norwegian National Day, and then there will be lots of marching bands torturing usplaying.

..and the shrooms? Bah, you don't need any shrooms, anyone knows that

Like it a lot, especially the detail on those torsos. You can barely see the red difference, don't worry about it. Great work!

Without exaggerating, this is the best I've seen in our Minifig Customisation Workshop since it was launched a few months ago. I've already looked several times at the pics this evening. The details are amazing, the torso's, insignia's on the helmets, the way the instruments are made,... wow! This is very inspiring for me because making a decent band for my French army is something I want to do for a long time.

hey guys, thanks for the comments!

I took your advice and did the thing with the drum sticks and it turned out REALLY well!

Regarding the Side Drums, it was pretty much a guess and check process. Hopefully these pictures help you see what I did:

The Bass Drum was done with some string:

The sling for the sax was also pretty much guess and check:

All the decals were done with double sided tape and going over the edges with another marker so its really easy to do! However, you need to play with the sizes a bit. With my printer, all the insignias and drum decals/Drum major sash was printed at 30% of the picture size and the uniforms and tiger skin was done at 0.59 Width. The medals were printed at 35% size. However, i think photobucket sized the images down a bit when i uploaded them so you'll probably have to figure out your own dimensions if you're interested in trying these decals! I can probably find somewhere to post up the decals in their original sizes if anyone is really interested in making their own band.

For the history fanatics out there, i put the regal cypher of Queen Victoria on my drums because this band was suppose to be for my imperial ship project (1850s-1900s). The medals are also from the same era  I tried to get as much detail as I can into these figures.

Seriously great, no other way to put it.

Full size would be great, if possible, then we'll add them to the index!

Have you done other decals/minifigs? Please consider starting new threads with your other creations if so. Based on the quality of your work here, it would be great to see anything else you've put together!

These decals and figures are absolutely incredible, and I second Bonaparte that these are some of the best custom figures I've seen in this fourm. These are inspirational in a future for a French Napoleonic band that I may create. Kudos to You!

Band geek? Hey. :cry_sad:

This has got to be one of the best band creations I've seen. Very good job, I like the good array of instruments.

And like 'Shadows said, I can hear the drums too. :look:

Like all the others already have said: Your work is absolutely ingenious!

Look at all those tiny decals! :oh: How in all the world did you manage to cut them so smoothly!

You really must have some very calm hands.

And the instruments are incredible, too.

Hail to the king, Baby!

Great figures Globemaster. Brilliant decals with a very impressive amount of detail. Wasn't really sure what kind of band I would see when I opened the topic but these guys just made me go wow! Thanks for sharing the decals. I look forward to giving them a try on some soldiers I am planning to make.

I don't like them. Well I do, but I really HATE decals. Do you have picture of them without the decals?

I like the Mounted Band, the flesh makes it look 200x times better IMHO.

Band - 7/10 (Only due to my HATRED of decals)

Mounted - 9/10
