Klaus-Dieter Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) Hello everybody! I'm very proud of beeing aible to present you my first Wild West MOC I designed with Lego Digital Designer. I designed it this morning - and I think since it is my first LDD MOC (no really - I designed another WW MOC yesterday but it is so bad that it would be a shame to show it to you ) it isn't very bad. But have a look: Nicolas' Saloon Item #: LFH002 Pieces: 216 Price: 36,70 Euro Nicolas' Saloon is a little saloon in Legoredo where cowboys on their trip through the Wild West spend the night, meet other cowboys, play cards or simply have a drink. But it regrettably is not only a place where good people meet - watch out for the canyon bandit Rogger who is famous for his burglary!. The set includes Nicolas' Saloon with two seats, a table, a bar and a frame downstairs and a a bed and a little cupboard upstairs, a white horse, bandit Rogger, Nicolas, a cowboy and Nicolas' woman - and of course a lot of little nice other stuff Link to Lego.Factory: Nicolas' Saloon Annotations to the price: I think the price of 36,70 Euro would be quite OK since you have got four minifigs, a lot of little nice stuff, two floors with interior and a brick-built horse (although I really would have prefered a not brick-built ). Annotations to the question "Why did you design it in LDD?": The answer is very simple: I want to show TLG that they could very well release some new Wild West sets without having to design many new or redesign many old bricks. The only thing they should/would have to do is to desgin new or redesign old WW torsos, make some Western hats and rerelease the old guns and revolvers. And some stickers would be nice - for the windows and the signboard on top of the saloon. But despite from that this WW MOC would get by with all the bricks momentary available via Lego.Factory ! I hope you like it and it woul be very nice to read your comments ! Klaus-Dieter Edited May 25, 2008 by Hinckley Quote
Asuka Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 A nice saloon in a good color scheme and in a neat size. The interior looks nice too. But somehow, if you excuse me, it looks more like some SW scene on Tatooine.... maybe it´s the background, or the headgear of your MFs, or that a little exotic looking horse.... Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Interesting KD. I tried to create a digital creation once, and I found it nearly impossible. You've pulled it off quite nicely. If this were a real creation with a big saloon decal, I think it would look completely different. It's hard to appreciate the overall design seeing it in this format. I'm not sure I like the figs with the caps. They definately need some authentic WW pistols and accessories to add to the detail. I like the use of tan and black which is a good color combination. I just think it needs a little more detail which you couild easily create if this were a real MOC. Overall, a nice job though - esp for your first design. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) Thank you for your comments, Asuka and TheBrickster! I'm a bit disappointed since I thought that there'll be a bit more enthusiasm about my saloon ! To your offers: I consciously chose the LDD to design this set to show TLG that they could without much work give us some (fan designed) new Wild West sets (please read my annotation above). And since I chose Lego.Factory I only had/have a limited choice of bricks. So how should I include WW hats, horses, revolvers and guns since there aren't some in the list of available bricks ?! Consequently I decided to design things that look very similar. But of course it's no question that if there would have been WW hats, horses, revolvers and guns in the list of available bricks I would have used them ! Do you really think that it is of low quality for being designed with LDD ?! To Asuka: Do you think that the horse is - for a brick built horse - badly decaled?! Ok, you perhaps can't differentiate between a camel which was painted with white paint but ... To TheBrickster: I think that for a hypothetical official Lego set (that was my intention) there are enough details included - ok, perhaps some more guns and revolvers and perhaps one additional minifig - but otherwise it would be unrealistic - and despite form that supercharged. BTW: If you didn't notice yet: I wrote a new proposal for a Ghost Town set here - what do you think about it ? Klaus-Dieter Edited May 20, 2008 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Asuka Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Ok, you perhaps can't differentiate between a camel which was painted with white paint but ... Hey.... I understand.... that´s a cool trick.... Of course it´s not easy to create an overall satisfying Western atmosphere without some special accessory. Nevertheless your saloon looks alright for sure. But the service sucks. Where´s my bottle of whiskey, and when´ll the brawl start? I´ve an appointment with a fraudulent horse dealer.... Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I’m impressed, considering the limits of the factory tool you’ve made a very good looking saloon if it had some added stickers it would be a very good set. The way you’ve managed to capture the wild west theme with standard pieces is very good, it reminds me of the early castle sets with brick built horses. Quote
Dovchenko Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Extremely good, but what goes on the front porch, if anything? Maybe add a chair or two like they always have in westerns... make us an amazing rocking chair! lol. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 Thank you very much for your nice comments, Cardinal Brick and sdpirate! Let's see what'll come next! Klaus-Dieter Quote
