Sandy Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Okay, I had serious doubts whether to post this here or not (in the fear you'll laugh at it), but I decided to take my chances. So here's a silly MOC that I made last week out of very limited resource of bricks. It's a Fortress-On-Wheels, inhabited by both human knights and trolls (although the latter are more like servants). Aboard there is also a king and a wizard. I'm sorry about the bad quality of the pictures, they were taken with a mobile phone. A full view, where you can see the height of the central towers (six floors tall). View of the other side, which isn't very different. The drawbridge at the front of the fortress, with a chivalrous knight riding down it. The king on his throne. Under it is a trapdoor dropping intruders right into the prison below. The black-bearded wizard's room is at the top. The double doors at the back of the fortress, below a catapult. The interior of the central part, with a round table (haha). You can also see the shabby prison. A full view from the front. It took me two days to build this one, as I kept adding floors and changing the structure quite a lot. The whole thing fell totally apart at one point because there wasn't enough support on the heavy central part. All in all, building this reminded me of many things I had already forgotten about building with lego bricks. Hope you like it anyway, despite the fact that it's not a very durable fortress... iamded Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Well, I like it! It's like a super battle tower! I like the mixture of Crownie and Troll architecture and building style, with some Dwarven looking builds as well. A neat, detailed MOC indeed! I hope to see more MOCs from you in future! My one nit-pick however, is the inclusion of red in the colour scheme. Other than that, it's sweet! ~Peace Quote
Batbrick Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 BEST. MOC. EVER. Seriously, this thing is amazing, who could hve forseen such a spectacle in medieval times? Great stuff, i love the wizard's tower and the horse ramp, this thing is mad! Like my pal and soon victim iamded here, I'd recommend changing the red. Oh, and i'm stalking you iamded! Batbrick Away! Quote
Sandy Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Thanks for the compliments, guys! Like my pal and soon victim iamded here, I'd recommend changing the red. Unfortunately this MOC ceased to be the same day these photos were taken, so I can't really change anything about it anymore. Like I said, I have a very limited amount of bricks at this point... We all just have to wait until I get my old legos back so I can make something permanent. I too would've liked the red roofs to be blue or something, but red was all I got. Minifig Lecturer Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 As you've said its now broken, however, I think it would have been better if the drawbridge was near the top and it was a seige tower. BTW there appears to be alot of fire hazards =) Quote
Sandy Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 As you've said its now broken, however, I think it would have been better if the drawbridge was near the top and it was a seige tower. I would agree if it was a siege tower, but it's not. It's a moving fortress, a castle with wheels. BTW there appears to be alot of fire hazards =) But I like the plastic flames. They add color to it all. I said this was a silly MOC anyway, there's nothing realistic about it. Quote
SlyOwl Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Great! It kind of reminds me of a castle on wheels in a really cheesy Robin Hood film... I'm liking the drawbridge too, although it would be great if it would flip up to reveal a battering ram Try taking the photos in front of that white wall in the background - reduces clutter Did you try to use those arches above the wheels as wheel-arches? I'd suggest moving them down a little and getting them fully in line, but it's ingenious nonetheless! Yay for owls! Quote
BlueBard Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Nice work, and a very interesting design! I specially this little passage between the two towers and the table on the bottom Nevertheless if I can make a criticism I think an extra wheel on each side would give it a better looking Quote
Sandy Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Nevertheless if I can make a criticism I think an extra wheel on each side would give it a better looking I agree. I was going to put those smaller brown wheels you get from the Catapult and the Mine Defender in the middle, but I couldn't get them to roll with the larger wheels (either they hung in the air or made the large wheels hang in the air), so I decided not to include them. As for the large "stone" wheels, I only have five of them, so I was out of luck. My photocomic is coming up later tonight, so if you want to see more of my creations, keep an eye for it! Dwarvenlord Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Funny MOC, out of being realistic it's a great building! I like the figs you've made. I only have five of them, so I was out of luck. Let me guess, you have the Tower Siege and the Dwarves mine, don't you? Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I would agree if it was a siege tower, but it's not. It's a moving fortress, a castle with wheels. o ok. That makes sense now =) Quote
kill will Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I love it! Like SlyOwl said, It looks like something from a kids movie. One question, how does it move? Or do the orcs push it? Quote
Athos Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 It looks like something Lego would make for an official set. I wonder how it would fare against the Troll Battle Wheel... Steve Quote
Sandy Posted June 5, 2008 Author Posted June 5, 2008 Dwarvenlord: Good guess. I suppose I could get four more from the Troll Assault Wagon. I love it! Like SlyOwl said, It looks like something from a kids movie. One question, how does it move? Or do the orcs push it? One word: magic. Honestly though, I didn't think of any mechanics to it. Then again, there's a wizard on board, so it should explain everything needed. Quote
Dwarvenlord Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Dwarvenlord: Good guess. I suppose I could get four more from the Troll Assault Wagon. Yes, I'm also looking for that set, but my parents won't let my buying anything since my last order (Chess set and skelly battle pack), but maybe I could cheat a little by buying only the impulse sets in the stores (army building ON ). Deinonychus Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Tower MOC - Not bad Tower MOC with big friggin' wheels - Awesome! I've always said that you can make anything look 100% cooler just by adding big LEGO wheels. Once again I'm proven correct Quote
commanderbly42 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Wow, this is so cool! Why would anyone laugh at it? You've added a lot of detail and it looks really good! Great job! Quote
Adam Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Whoa, great MOC, Sandy! I like how it's sort of a blend of Crownie-Dwarf-Orc-Sekllie! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I think having this huge fortress on wheels is rather clever and very original. It also has that "playful" and fun element to it, rather than seeing the typical big castle MOC. Nice job Sandy! Quote
WhiteFang Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 This is a very innovative MOC! It's rare to see a "good" fraction to have a battaling ram, carriage, etc to transport their armies around. And yours, is transporting a fortress around. It looks like a mobile command centre. Great for Castle commanders to strategise their campaigns. I find this concept very interesting. In addition, it looks very tall too. Great for an outlook post. Thanks for sharing, Sandy! Quote
Asuka Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Hey, a castle on wheels, what a cool idea this is.... that´s for sure something every king could need if he goes on vacation, well done. Up to the seaside on! Quote
Wout Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Hey, that's pretty good. A moc haven't to be always realistic. It looks a bit like something they could put in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And if you're uphill, you can crush your enemies by riding over them. Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 haha lol this is insane! a fortress on wheels! Quote
