Front Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 (edited) Exoforce was the first system-thing I got into, and I have built up quite a large collection. Only a couple of weeks ago was I able to find the Bridge Walker (7713) on the shelves though, and I grabbed it instantly. I've read a lot about it, and was glad to find that old 2006 set. Bridge Walker is in my opinion one of the best Exo-Force sets. The small human mech in the set is terrible, but it is a fine collection of click-joints to use as a base for a well equipped mech moc. But the Bridge Walker of the robots is so huge compared to any other of the two-legged exoforce mechs. The lack of articulation gave me ideas though for a moc. So what does the humans have, well now they have the Walking Obliterator. The mech has room for four minifigs, and is equipped with a large mini-robot hanging from the walkers neck. The central cabin is the driver of this mech. On the shoulders, articulated canon and laser cabins are controlled by gunners. The laser and canon cabins can be tilted and turned, and are able to shoot in nearly all directions. In this side view the mech is at its lowest position. In each leg there is a simpel rotation joint at the feets, knees and hip. At the hip there is an additional joint, formed by two "click bricks". These additional hip joints are designed similar to those in the Bridge Walker. The simpel rotation joint are those which the Striking Venom (7707) has eight of. There is one at the foot, and at the hip, and two at the knee, where the moment usually is greatest. Here is another view, now with the walker at its highest position and with the minirobot detached. Hope you enjoy. Front Edited August 14, 2008 by Sinner Quote
Kingboy Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I've been meaning to overhaul my Bridge Walker with those joints you used from the Striking Venom...I need to get off my butt and do so now that I know they can support that kind of weight. Looks a bit more like a Robot design than a Human design with the majority of black pieces and the angled (as opposed to rounded) armor plating, but it looks good overall. Quote
keetong Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I have to say it pretty good. I love how the fluro bricks bring it out of its dark background. It looks much better if its crouched than at its highest. Quote
Front Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Thank you for feedback. I started out making this mech with somewhat longer legs, using 14x1 technic bricks as shin and thigh between the rotational joints. That turned out to be too long legs, as it resulted in the rotational joints being to weak to hold the weight of the model. There was no problem for the joint at the hip or ancle, as the centre of gravity of the model is closely above or below these two joints. But the joints in the knees were way too weak, even though there are two at each knee. This is due to the distance between the knees and the centre of gravity of the model above the knees. Adding slightly shorter legs, solve that problem. Still though, if I made a larger central cockpit, adding much more weight, I think three joints in the knees would be better. One joint at feet and hip is fine though, even with more weight. Front Quote
Siegfried Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Very cool! Bridge Walker was one of my favourites too; and it's one of the last still together. (White Lightning fell in the sorting bin fast. ) This is a great looking counterpart, but as Kingboy says, the colour scheme is wrong; and reason why you made it this colour? It's great to see a mech of this size that is poseable. (I expected a motorised mech when I read the title... ) Quote
Front Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 (edited) Kingboy and Sinner are surely right, the design is robot-like, black and "squared" oppose to brightly coloured and curved. But it's all part of the 2009 Exo-Force story, where the humans in a last desperate effort, start stealing mechs from the robots. I have two Ultimate Batman sets, as that set is full of nice black bricks. So that is the true reason why I made it this way. Add to that, I really like black stuff. Here's a picture of my Walking Obliterator in a walking posture next to the Bridge Walker. A motorised mech would be really cool trying to make. It would ofcourse not use the click joints in knees etc. A good look at the 2007 Creator set 4958 Monster Dino, would be a good starting point I think. I don't know that set though. cheers Front Edited August 15, 2008 by Front Quote
Mr.BigBrick Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Whoa! That is possibly the best LEGO Moc I've seen in a while. The colour scheme is nice when I can never get a decent colour scheme. The overall design is very cool. Awesome work! Quote
Cyclone Titan Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Wow, that is the coolest robothuman mecha ever. You definetly put some thought into that robot scumhuman awesomeness. CT Quote
NewRight Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I usually don't like Exo-Force MOCs, but you pulled this off amazingly. Great work! Quote
