oo7 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 If my recent Wells Fargo Assay Office was considered "Episode 1" in a new series of Old West MOCs, I guess this one is the previously unreleased (and unbuilt) pilot episode. And if it were to be later produced as a film, I suppose it could form a sister series to "Pirates of the Caribbean", also being based on a Disneyland park amusement ride (Big Thunder Mountain). The only regret is that I didn't have enough spare trans-clear elements for the water flow in the sluice. And here's a gallery - http://flickr.com/photos/agent_oo7/tags/sluice/ and just in case anyone's interested, some of my inspiration came from here - http://flickr.com/search/?w=faves&q=thunder here and here - http://flickr.com/photos/forwardlookguy/166044992/ http://www.wildwestmodels.com/Flack_Mine_product.html and unfortunately, here - http://tylerhere.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/egg3.jpg Thanks for looking. Hinckley Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 You are nothing short of amazing. I can't type out the details of why I like it so much just yet, but wanted to just give my initial reaction: EDIT: Bonaparte beat me to it! I was about to frontpage this... Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 2, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 2, 2008 An amazing piece of art oo7. If the Lego company is smart they'll hire you to work for them. I'm serious! EDIT: Bonaparte beat me to it! I was about to frontpage this... You are getting slow my friend Quote
rriggs Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 This is a great model and I particularly like your photography. Great use of angles to get the real tress as your background. Nice touch! I love the authentic wonkyness of the model itself. All of the various bits and pieces on the roof have a real western wooden building feel to them. I like the mechanism details inside the building too and the nifty use of palm tree trunk pieces mixed with Technic. Very clever. Also really neat use of minifg brooms as legs/supports on the roof-mounted trough thingy. They look the part. I also like the design of the lamppost out front. I think I might have to nick this design for the gallows in a castle I'm putting together at the moment! I had to look really hard in order to find anything to criticise in a model of this quality but aren't the buffers on the track facing the wrong way...?? Anyway, amazing MOC and thanks for sharing! Cheers Rog Quote
Johnny 5 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 This is truly amazing. It is the sides of your building that catch my eye the most, the snot and how the slats are staggered just so. I also love the sluice and if ever I need to build one I know what moc I will be referencing to steal borrow. The huge amount of detail in this really sells this and makes it seem bigger than it really is, you have to look at it three or four times to get everything and you still wont catch it all. Quote
Shoc Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) Sorry that I'm speechless... I'd say the only flaw is the strangely placed baseplates, but other than that, this is flawless! The buildiing especially is a great construction, and the figures are very cool! If the Lego company is smart they'll hire you to work for them. I'm serious! I agree. If and when TLC do more Wild West sets, you should be designing them. :skull: Edited September 2, 2008 by Shoc Quote
Skinny Boy Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I see you have gone for the all natural outdoor sunlighting approach. Nice MOC and a great start to the wave of them that will come whenever the Brickarms revolver is released. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Wow I'm speechless... This is an amazing MOC. The level of detail is fantastic, and the SNOT on the roof is superb. It really looks authentic with the great sluice. Great MOCs like these make my sentences really short and repetitive... Nice work oo7! Quote
Adam Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Amazing! The best oo7 I've ever seen! It's mine-i-lishious!! Your unique building skill really sets you out above the rest. Keep it up! Your score is the same as SlyOwl's, a 469%!! The ideas which you put into your MOCs amaze me. Quote
Lost Viking Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 o_O Were you at BrickFair? I swear I saw that MOC there! Quote
PMJ Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Wow! I see you have one of the BrickArms Prototype Revolvers! Quote
oo7 Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Wow, so many great comments in the past couple hours I've been out that replying directly to all of them would probably exceed the 20 emotion limit! However, I do really appreciate reading all of them. Thanks so much, everyone. o_O Were you at BrickFair? I swear I saw that MOC there! Sure was! That's how I got my hands on BrickArms Prototype Revolvers! Quote
JopieK Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 whoohoo, that is one goldmine! really neat, nice solutions to some mechanical challenges. Quote
Joey Lock Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Reminds me alot of Team Fortress 2's maps such as Dustbowl: Very nice! Mabye you should try create a City like this... Quote
Dadster Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 o_O Were you at BrickFair? I swear I saw that MOC there! That's what I was thinking... Should've introduced yourself! Very nice. Quote
Fatespuppet Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 This is excellent. I especially like the ramshackle feel of the whole thing. This is a very characterful creation. Quote
WhiteFang Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 That is an impressive piece of creation. You are one of the builders in EB, whom I enjoyed viewing. This is no exception. It's amazing to see such old style wild west concept, displayed in a realistic looking design with that brown facade and desert look. The sluice, tracks, bushes and chains are all of the small little nice details which makes it so beautiful. I can assume that the mechanism for the wheels, is able to function. oo7, great job indeed! Quote
iamded Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Very cool creation, oo7! I do love the scaffolding with the sluice thingies, and the building itself is fantastic too. A great MOC indeed. ~Peace Quote
Batbrick Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 This thing is beautiful, absolutely charming. Creations like tihs really make male me feel warm inside for some reason, stuff that reminds me why I loved this toy as a kid and what I aspired to make. Love the little mechanisms, chains and tracks, those and the overall studlessness and ingenious construction all add up to a magnificent moc. Thanks for sharing! Batbrick Away! Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Simply WOW, great work 007! I guess your Wild West city is growing steadily with these masterpieces? Quote
Norro Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Brilliant work! I like the intricate sluice fastenings. It is always good to see a moc with this much character. Though I have to admit to a desire to play putt putt on it... God Bless, Nathan Quote
oo7 Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Reminds me alot of Team Fortress 2's maps such as Dustbowl: Very nice! Mabye you should try create a City like this... Ah, I've admittedly never played the game, but that does look like some nice fry and dusty industrial atmosphere you have going there. Thanks for the tip! That's what I was thinking... Should've introduced yourself! Very nice. Oh, introduce myself to who? That is an impressive piece of creation. Thanks very much my friend, but I'm sorry to say that the pulley system is not much in the way of perfected at the moment and really only serves a decorative purpose. Simply WOW, great work 007! I guess your Wild West city is growing steadily with these masterpieces? Many thanks for the compliments, but I'm going to have to answer in the negative in regards to your question. Unfortunately enough, whenever I'm inspired to build a new one, I've always torn down the old one for pieces. But that's what the hobby's all about, isn't it? Brilliant work! I like the intricate sluice fastenings. It is always good to see a moc with this much character. Though I have to admit to a desire to play putt putt on it...God Bless, Nathan Ah, Mr. Norro! So good to see you here; now what is this putt putt of which you speak? Would that involve the mine cart, perhaps? If that is so, then I can understand your compulsion - about half the small childen who walked up to this at Brickfair were internally forced to slide the cart up and down the tracks. Thanks again to all else for the great feedback! Quote
christopher110 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 i like the design of your roof so much.... What a nice work.... Quote
WhiteFang Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Thanks very much my friend, but I'm sorry to say that the pulley system is not much in the way of perfected at the moment and really only serves a decorative purpose. Although the pulley system is not fully operational, but I must admit it's a very nice touch to your overall creation. You have done well to add this in. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) An amazing piece of art oo7. If the Lego company is smart they'll hire you to work for them. I'm serious! I totally have to agree with Bonaparte - this is an absolutely amazing Wild West MOC, oo7! It looks so realistic and lovely - and the minifigs and all the additional stuff and details you included: Simply ! You're a real genius! Very well done!
