KDog Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I posted this in the Castle Sets 2008 thread but it seems to have gone unnoticed there. Over at Classic-Castle.com, it's been revealed that Lego will not be selling the 2008 Castle Advent set in North America, not even through S@H. It was never developed for the American market and the packaging isn't set up for it, an issue that would be costly to change. This really, really sucks. Racer-18 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Ahh that is bad. Can't really see the sense in that to be honest. Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 That's a real shame about that, though I guess someone on Eurobricks might be willing to buy some for you without the mark up that Bricklink sellers will charge. Quote
the enigma that is badger Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I had heard this news as well, and it's certainly saddening. While I'm sure most of the newer figs in the set (Maiden and Witch) will find their way into future Castle sets, I would have preferred to pick up this great set! Methinks I'll be trading some exclusive and rare BrickArms items with someone in a few months! badger Quote
KimT Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Is this info really reliable? I remember the same discussion on the Vikings and to my knowledge those sets were released in NA. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Perhaps this is a question for our ambassador. If it doesn't show up in NA, I'll be sure to buy me a few calendars for my BL store Quote

If you click on the link to the discussion on Classic-Castle, you'll note that the information is confirmed by Steve Witt, community liason for the LEGO company. I, as an ambassador, can also confirm this, if Steve's word is not enough for you. --Tony Quote
KimT Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 It is. I just didn't get that far in the thread on CC. Quote
hewkii9 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Well I'm disappointed. First purple, and now this? I sincerely hope Lego will go back on this decision. Quote
KDog Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Yeah, if any of my overseas friends are able to help me with this, I'd be much obliged! What puzzles me is that Lego has in the past released non-American sets on S@H for American customers, such as the Mars Mission Ultra-Drill Walker. Quote
randomparrot Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I hope it's released in the UK also does anyone know a release date? Quote
KimT Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I hope it's released in the UK also does anyone know a release date? This month or next month to my knowledge. But I may be wrong Quote
Holodoc Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I hope it's released in the UK also does anyone know a release date? Regarding to this it should be out mid october. Quote
Derek Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 First the premature death of purple, now this. A really sucky week for Lego fans... Quote
Eilif Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) This stinks. My wife and I do the LEGO advent calendar(s) every year, and with the slightly repetative nature of the city calendar (we'll still probably get it anyway) we were really looking forward to the Castle calendar. Is there anybody in europe who would be willing to explore the possiblities of shipping one to me here in the USA? I'd be happy to pay shipping, but I can't afford to pay bricklink-style markup at this time. If anyone is willing to discuss this please PM me. Edited September 3, 2008 by Eilif Quote
brickzone Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Wow that's awful! I sincerely hope it's released on the peripheral European markets like here in Ireland! Quote
maiq the liar Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) WHUH-HUH-HUH-HAAAAAAAT?! WHAT THE ?! HOW COULD THEY?! Is this their payback for us sinking all those ships back in the 1700s? if so, this is very fitting revenge. *Walks off, muttering and gnashing teeth* Edited September 3, 2008 by maiq the liar Quote
KimT Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 What a fine reasonable way to deal with these news. You are aware that this is an adult site and adult behaviour is expected? Quote
Kliq Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 No, this is horrible news! As previously said, though, hopefully the figures included will also be in future sets. There is still hope! Quote
Scouty Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 First the premature death of purple, now this. A really sucky week for Lego fans... Well, mostly for North American Lego fans! I actually really wanted to get one! Mostly for the maiden! Such bad news! (Too many !'s !) Quote

skaldcrow Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Wow, not cool. I was seriously excited about this set. Oh well. Quote
The Brick Rat Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Wow, this is really disappointing. Ever since TLC started making the City advent calendars with minifigs I've wanted a Castle themed one. So when it was revealed earlier this year I was ecstatic (I was planning on getting 4-6). And now as it is about to be released we find out that it won't be availiable in North America? Really odd. Castle has a huge following here and it's one of TLCs 'evergreen' themes - you would think that they would want to release it in such a large market. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Im already helping one NA person out with this set, so if anyone is serious I might be able to help out from Australia Cheers ISC Quote
Privateer Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Bummer. I have been looking forward to this since we first caught wind of it earlier this year. It's been years since I've gotten an advent calendar, but the Castle one looked like a must-have. I hope that LEGO hears our collective cries and realizes the error of this decision. Maybe there is still some way that we'll eventually be able to get a hold of these without markup prices on the second market... Quote
Fatespuppet Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 This a very sad day. I've been looking forward to this set since I first saw pictures of it months ago. I had set aside cash for 3 and now I don't have one to look forward to. I really hope they release ALL the figures in other sets because I really wanted that court jester. Maybe Lego will bless us NA folks with a minifig pack similar to the city one with lots of random town goers and court officials. Even if it was a simple impulse set with the Jester and Maiden I'd be happy. Alas. Maybe I'll go buy Force Unleashed after all, seeing as how I now have extra moolah. Quote
