Siegfried Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Rotta Hutt was kidnapped again by the Asajj Ventress, and was taken to the great fortress of Duplodica. An AT-TE was deployed with Ahsoka to rescue him. The powerful AT-TE had no trouble climbing the small fortress... ...because it's articulated waist enables it to climb almost any angle. With Ahsoka protecting the driver during the ascent... ...the AT-TEs mighty feet stomped it's way up the wall. However it was then that the wall collapsed under the weight... ...leaving the Ventress looking for a way to make her escape yet again. Will she get away? Probably; she does have a whole series to appear in now. Meanwhile, back in reality land... Soon after I bought the 7675 set I felt the urge to articulate it. The way TLG designed the middle just looked like they considered doing it but changed their mind. Thus I decided to try to work with that idea and I built a replacement inside... ...and here it was. Annoyingly it was a failure. Due to the hinge position it tended to fall over really easily and it needed rubber bands to achieve any sort of stability. Additionally, it was hard to make the top as I needed the two halves to overlap. Even though it seemed that I was close, I couldn't make it work well so I decided I was on the wrong track so I scrapped it and made the hinge higher. That worked much better and I was able to achieve my goal of making it look largely like the original model. Obviously it isn't as stable as the standard version, but it is far more pose-able now. I think it looks better too, but it's all a matter of opinion. I'd like to say it's more accurate, but most official pictures of the AT-TE don't match other ones... Quote
Wilhelm screamer Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I love this on so many levels. Yet, I can not shake the feeling that it looks wrong while flexing. Quote
Guss Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Nice modification ! it makes it way better to include some in a big display, with a bumpy ground! Quote
Asuka Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 A smart work and very poseable indeed, well done! Quote
JimBee Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Nice work, Sinner, and good idea. This will be good for CW dioramas. By the way, I didn't know walruses lived in the SW galaxy and went clam fishing near CIS bases! Quote
Corvus Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Somebody call the chiropractor! I like it. Very flexible. Quote
Clonecommando007 Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Wow! That's some nice body change work. I always hesitate when I mod my models under the skin. Skin changes are easy for me, but what you're doing would be suicide had I tried it. I'm really glad that it works out with you! Quote
Norrington Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I like it. It looks a bit empty in the middle, which bothered me. I made mine inaccurate by removing the carrying handle (worthless) and adding red armor plates and a hatch (a round plate from the At-ST set). It should be some sort of rubber under-armor type thing, but whatever. I'm not sure about the way it angles while climbing, and I'm not sure that AT-TEs could realistically do that. Also, I'm sure that this thread's subtitle couldn't be taken in a wrong way at all. No sir... Quote
Legoking Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 That is really good how you made the AT-TE flexible. Nice Job!!! Quote
Derek Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I like mine bendable, not stiff I like it. Very flexible. Thats what she said. That looks very cool! They should have encorporated a feature like this into the official model. That was a cool scene in the movie where Ahsoka was standing on the front of the AT-TE while it was crawling up the wall. Great work! Quote

Great work! hm.. i think its a matter of choosing between flexibility and outward appearance. i guess lego decided to go with looks since most people will probably have it bent much. Quote
Siegfried Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 Thanks everyone for your comments. Yet, I can not shake the feeling that it looks wrong while flexing. When I designed this I wanted a 90 degree bend. I might re-build it later with a 45 degree lock; that would let the waist be thinner at the top. When I buy the movie I'll be looking for pointers. Nice work, Sinner, and good idea. This will be good for CW dioramas. By the way, I didn't know walruses lived in the SW galaxy and went clam fishing near CIS bases! There's a lot people don't know about walruses! I wanted to make the scene bigger and better but I ran out of pieces. Wow! That's some nice body change work. I always hesitate when I mod my models under the skin. Skin changes are easy for me, but what you're doing would be suicide had I tried it. I'm really glad that it works out with you! Ahhh but I cheated. I built the new inside from spare parts so I could work on it without trashing the original model. I then removed body panels and legs from the set and put them on my inner frame. Thus there was zero risk if I couldn't get it to work. I like it. Interestingly I wanted to leave in the handle as I found it useful. It ended up being too hard so I gave up and designed a completely custom center. That was a cool scene in the movie where Ahsoka was standing on the front of the AT-TE while it was crawling up the wall. I was crying in that scene... It's some of the most artistic CG I've seen for a long time. I love well animated machines. When Yoda came to the rescue with loads of AT-TEs walking in the background I missed most of the dialog there as I was to busy looking at the waist joint movement. hm.. i think its a matter of choosing between flexibility and outward appearance.i guess lego decided to go with looks since most people will probably have it bent much. It's more than that. The set is very stable, and is easy for kids to pose. Mine requires you to ensure that the legs will take the weight, and it hates smove surfaces. To design this so it was flexible and as stable would be hard. I tried, but I don't think it could be done passively. I plan to work on this again soon so I'll be giving it another go. I think the key is re-designing the center legs. I didn't want to do that last time as it would have been too many changes at once. Quote
Wout Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 By the way, I didn't know walruses lived in the SW galaxy and went clam fishing near CIS bases! This was a battle on the planet of Fabuland. It would be nice if CopMike came by and asked the clone driver to park his AT-TE on a regular parking place. Very nice moc Sinner. Yoga on ! Quote
Snake...SNAKE...SNAAAAKE?! Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 It would be nice if CopMike came by and asked the clone driver to park his AT-TE on a regular parking place. Unfortunately, the clone was a victim of Road Rage Quote
