WhiteFang Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Hello fellow Eurobricks members and Castle Lovers, Recently, I been spending a fair amount of time, building my first Castle building moc. It's defintely not as impressive compared to others' wonderful creations. Mine is created solely on my limited amount of bricks. The reason why I had listed it as "part 1" is because in the later part, I will be expanding this outpost with a forest scenery if possible. Comments and critics on my moc's improvement are strongly welcomed. I am trying to improve my techniques and hope to build a better design in the future and I really hope all of you could show me your kindest guidance for an amature builder like me. Story background A tiring day in the sunny bright morning in the southern part of Crown Kingdom. A group of soliders led by the elite forest rangers, was escorting the king's treasure back to the Capital. However, things are not moving smoothly as they are ambushed by orcs raiders. Leaving with only just a few men, the forest rangers had led the soldiers to an abandoned outpost and fortify it until reinforcements arrived. One of the forest ranger, named Alton has dispatched "Elorando", a smart owl whom has the same tracking capability like "Fernando" from Black Knights Kingdom. Will this group ever survive the raid from the orcs and stay hidden in the forest, while waiting for reinforcements to arrive. Stay tune for future updates. Front view of the Abandoned Outpost Interior Layout Side views Staircase leading up to the towers Priceless treasure hidden behind the walls Close-up shot of its archers Surviving soldiers lead by Forest Rangers Hope everyone of you had enjoyed viewing my simple MOC. ptdapen Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Ah, I love the concept idea, but I will say I think the color scheme is a little odd. Perhaps you and others like it, but I think a darker color like gray would be better. Plus I think the archers would be better with capes instead of quivers, or maybe both! Wait, is that possible or good for the cape? Hm... well that's my critique! I enjoyed the layout of the MOC, and if you ever make it bigger, I believe those Crown Soldiers could use a place to sleep! Plus I would love to see a battle picture! Troll raid on, please! Quote

Perhaps you and others like it, but I think a darker color like gray would be better. Plus I think the archers would be better with capes instead of quivers, or maybe both! Wait, is that possible or good for the cape? Hm... well that's my critique! I admit that the color scheme which I had took, is odd for most castle builders as most of its building orientation is in light or dark grey. The main reason is, I don't have these excess grey bricks for me to start with... I thought for awhile before I decide using black and white combination and a little green and brown by the side. The main problem which I forget to consider earlier is to include green foilage at the front and right side of the outpost. Never mind, I can rectify on that later. Regarding about the archers' add on, there are actually some of the archers have brown cape and quiver, holding a bow with them. Look at their face carefully. There are new rookies whom have recently added into the ranks. Only senior rangers has the honour to wear a cape behind. By the way, its possible to do so but it might damage the cape due to the quiver blocking it. Once the cape is placed there, its best not to move it too much. Thanks for your honest opnions. It will help me a lot in my building later. I enjoyed the layout of the MOC, and if you ever make it bigger, I believe those Crown Soldiers could use a place to sleep! Plus I would love to see a battle picture! Troll raid on, please! Thanks for that suggestion. I am trying to build a mini-campfire and resting area for them. I might increase the scale that I am working with. However, the landscaping was put to a halt, because I had ran out of bricks. Yes, a battle picture is something I had envisioned. Quote
pr0visorak Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Its so cute. The outpost looks so nice. Not much improvements to be made but can you made the walls all the same color or are they supposed to be like damaged walls? Quote
WhiteFang Posted October 31, 2008 Author Posted October 31, 2008 Its so cute. The outpost looks so nice. Not much improvements to be made but can you made the walls all the same color or are they supposed to be like damaged walls? Thanks Pr0visorak! Never thought someone will ever comment my moc as "cute". The purpose of multiple colors involved, is because I want to break the building contrast. I had observed their castle walls from Teddy, ISC, KimT, Dragonator and etc. They had used certain grey to break away the dull look of its walls. You are correct about the damaged walls. I thought black will be the right color to start with, by illustrating its building damage over the years. Another specific reason is, I had ran out of white bricks, so I took black bricks for substitute. Quote
Raven Brickroft Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 It's cool. Something similar to what I always make with mine. Though it's more because of what few LEGO I have left than by choice. Though, it looks a bit too crowded. 4-3 less MFs would make it look more like an outpost. Or maybe just spread 'em out. The color scheme would make them standout more than blend in a forest. Quote

I Scream Clone Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Hi Whitefang, I like what you have done with a limited amount and colour of bricks at your disposal. Certainly a lot of people for an Abandoned Outpost Once you get past the palette it is a nice scene with plenty to offer. Cheers Quote
WhiteFang Posted October 31, 2008 Author Posted October 31, 2008 The color scheme would make them standout more than blend in a forest. With some green foilage covering the walls, similar to the left view. I believed it will break the colors to illustrate a dense forest scene. Orignally, I envisioned this moc to be a Forestmen expansion, then I changed the approach and tried this instead. I called it cute as it is so small and creative. It is great to look at too Thanks! Though, it looks a bit too crowded. 4-3 less MFs would make it look more like an outpost. Or maybe just spread 'em out. Certainly a lot of people for an Abandoned Outpost Hi Raven and ISC, thanks for dropping your comments. Both of you have make me think carefully again, on this outpost concept. Guess an outpost shouldn't contain so many soldiers. I will be spreading them out later, in the landscape scene. Perhaps, I should reduce one crossbow, one forest ranger and one axe soldier to give it a nice "4". Quote
Guss Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 small outpost, with a strange colours scheme, but I really enjoyed to see it, it's well done and nice ! I just don't understand why the soldier next to the table with the two golden glass looks so angry^^ Quote
Raven Brickroft Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 somebody must've drunk his drink. Quote
Inertia Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Great MOC Whitefang, once you get past the colors, it's a nice little outpost! Maybe if you incorporated more green bricks into the walls, it would look more overgrown, coupled with the green vine/whip pieces. I can't wait for the rest of your MOC, and I'm sure you would've been to Toyshunt to pick up more trees Quote
randomparrot Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Very good, That would be good for a Big Vignette or brickfilming. Quote
WhiteFang Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 I just don't understand why the soldier next to the table with the two golden glass looks so angry^^ somebody must've drunk his drink. Actually, he was angry because there is no beer barrels inside the abandoned outpost. Just cups, but no content. Great MOC Whitefang, once you get past the colors, it's a nice little outpost! Maybe if you incorporated more green bricks into the walls, it would look more overgrown, coupled with the green vine/whip pieces. I can't wait for the rest of your MOC, and I'm sure you would've been to Toyshunt to pick up more trees Thanks Inertia. Actually, the color scheme is a problem because I had counted my bricks wrongly, and missed the 1600 bricks barrel, which is selling at an affordable price since Singapore's Pick a Brick is expensive. I only had one of those in my inventory. I had been to not only Toyhunt, but other usual hangouts to get trees, bushes, foilages and etc. It will be very useful in my moc in the future. Just wish I could have a little more time to do such stuff. Quote
