How can some set be list as limited edition while there are tons of them on the shelf. for example the dwarve's mine and the troll battle wheel. They are both limited edition set. but now we are into the 2nd year of this new castle theme but there are still tons of them in stock in most of the big retail stores.

There are two editions of the set. One Limited and one "Regular". As I understand it Lego does make a deal from time to time with chains of toystores in the US to give them exclusive rights to release a certain set before everyone else. I guess they're also only produced in small numbers. Theese sets are marked with a "Limited Edition"-splash on the box. And after the sets sell out it can take quite some time( if ever?) before the regular version is released on that market.

And in the case of the Dwarve's Mine I think the price of the Limited Edition was lower than for the regular version.

For about the first 6 months of the release, one store has the rights to the Limited Edition set. Then, every other store gets the set. The idea is that the store will make a ton of money because people like the idea of Limited Edition and will buy it.

To my knowledge limited means: limited to a certain chain of stores.

- Normally TRU (and BR a sister company of TRU DK/TopToys).

I don't think it's meant as limited numbers produced.

Please tone down the aggresive comments and remember that noone ever forced anyone to buy LEGO.

I will like to add another important point about "Limited Edition". Limited Edition, normally refer to a set limited in its quantity OR distribution channel. In different countries perspective, various Limited Editions can differ from one another. For example in Singapore, the Troll Battle Wheel and the Hoth Rebel Base are Limited Editions in TRU. In this way, these sets are exclusive to this distrbution channel.

I think that having a set available as LE is better than not having it available at all.

Look on the bright side: the Internet can bring you most everything you want, even LE or Promo sets that were meant to be given to someone living some thousand miles from you!

To me :

Limited Edition - limited in production quantity

Exclusive - limited by location or store

maybe in other countries these terms are used differently, but I can imagine the confussion if something is claimed to be limited and still selling two years later. strange.

Is the Troll Battle Wheel currently available anywhere else besides TRU and S@H? I haven't seen one at Wal-Mart or Target.

I've seen it at a few Target stores in the greater San Diego area.

The skeleton ship from the castle series did sell out pretty quickly. but i don't recall what was written on the box for that set. Exclusive or Limited Edition?

At least in Germany the box says "limited edition", and althouh the set was imho overprized it was sold out at shop@home some months later and I haven´t ever seen one in stores.

The Indiana Jones Peril in Peru set is also 'limited' in that it is limited to being sold at Toys R Us, and unlike the other LE sets, I think this one may be a complete sell-through?

is dwarven mines a limited edition?? I don't think so..

I hunt the 2007 castle limited edition now,, 7029..

and I think limited edition means even though there are tons of this set, there will not be any discount..

Both yes and no. The dwarven mine was first released as a limited edition in the US at christmas 2007. In the rest of the world it was released as a regular set a little later. The limited edition did sell out rather quick, if I remember correctly. A couple of months later, around summer I think, it was rereleased in the US as a regular set with a higher price.
