I thought it would be interesting to compare a few of the Indiana Jones sets in a face-off. Understanding that some of you don't own the Shanghai Chase set, there has been quite a few pictures and a review shared on EB. So, starting with:

face-off1.jpg

7622 Race for the Stolen Treasure

Piece Count: 272

Figs: 4

Extras: Gold chest and Indy's white horse

Price: $29.99 USD

7682 Shanghai Chase

Piece Count: 244

Figs: 5

Extras: None (5 figs including Short Round)

Price: $29.99 USD

Which set do you like better? Share your thoughts.

I was actually going to do a comparison review of these, but after modding the truck, I couldn't. Very hard question, but I would go with Shanghai Chase. All Exclusive figs, and first use of black fedoras :cry_happy:

Having just purchased the Shanghai Chase set, I can see the strengths and weaknesses of each set. I love the Race for the Stolen Treasure set, as it's my favorite scene from all three movies (There was a fourth? When did that happen? Did I miss it?). I think the truck design is great, albeit a tad small. Needs a bit more room in the back for troops. I added a tailgate to it, and I think it looks more complete. I also modded an ark crate to go in the back, instead of the very inaccurate gold treasure box. I threw that thing in with my pirates sets.

The Shanghai Chase has some highlights as well. Great new Indy. Black fedoras. Fairly accurate cars. If I had to choose between them though, I think I'd have to go with the Stolen Treasure. I think with the inclusion of the horse, it has some really great play value and display options.

As much as I like Race for the Stolen Treasure, I have to go with Shanghai Chase. This set seems to offer more than the other, and the vehicles are a lot cooler. The figs are also better, and Shanghai Chase comes with 5 different ones, and a new Indy, whereas RFTST only comes with the generic Indy and the generic Germans. By the way, the info on RFTST should say 4 figs, not three. I also think that these two sets (or maybe just RFTST) can be compared to the River Chase set.

I have to say Shanghai Chase, but probaly just because of the minifigures. Willie looks perfect, they even added a tiara, which I didn't notice she had until I saw Temple of Doom again after the set was revealed and her hair is right on! So kudos to you lego for having such a great Willie (teh he). And Short Round is much better than in the video game. When my friend looked at the cover of the game, he said "Is that Shorty? That doesn't look any thing like him." In the movie, he had a white shirt and a light-brown jacket (Like on the figure), but in the videogame, he had a grey shirt. What?

But Race For The Stolen Treasure was awesome aswell, but they didn't have the ark. So that made it seem more childish to me for some reason......

I have neither of those sets, but I would have to say Race for the Stolen Treasure would be the one I'd rather get. It has better vehicles, a horse, cool soldier torsos, the Indy torso is useful, better pieces, and Germany > China (Sorry, heritage always gets in the way! )

A very nice poll, theBrickster! These sets would have to be my two favourites of the Indy line, so it is a tough decision to make for me.

7682 Shanghai Chase has a superb selection of minifigs, all exclusive to the set. The gangsters look great in their black suits and fedoras and it's great to have a new Indy. The cars are great too, it's nice to get some 30's cars, but from the pics I do get a feeling that it's a little incomplete. There don't seem to be many clever techniques in the build of the cars, and there is very SNOT on them. The other thing that concerns me about it are the big silly-looking wheels, which really takes away from the design to me. I feel that the Adventurers spoked wheels would have worked better. That said, I still love the set, and will look forward to buying at least one copy.

7622 Race for the Stolen Treasure is a great set, the only set to include soldiers with kepis. The vehicles are amazingly built, with minimal <insert that tiresome argument> pieces and some great techniques. There is a lot of SNOT used on the vehicles, which give them a really pleasing clean and smooth look. The first time I saw these vehicles I was stunned by the detail, as I had never seen an official lego car with such a clever design while still staying in minifig scale. The only complaint I can find in the design of the vehicles is the use of tan and brown plates that disrupt the colour scheme, but most of these pieces cannot be seen in the finished product. Although it's rather pricey, the Race for the Stolen Treasure makes for a great army builder set, with 3 Nazis, a jeep and a truck, and you can never have enough of those metallic gold treasure chests.

In the end I voted for Race for the Stolen Treasure, as although Shanghai Chase has the better minifigs, the vehicles in 7622 are in my opinion better designed than those in 7682.

Definitely Shanghai Chase. The minifigs are amazing and versatile and will find a myriad of uses. Both the vehicles are fantastic and wonderfully detailed and brickbuilt (wait til you see the rear of the tan/ white car!) and would fit in seamlessly in any number of streetscapes, cities or historical MOCs. I love the luxury feel of Indy's vehicle yet the sinister black van is adaptable and well-built too. One of my favourite of the 09 Jan releases, definitely.

Race for the Stolen Treasure is OK, but the vehicles are a bit bley-ey and samey compared to Shanghai Chase. The horse mould is looking a bit simple next to the brick-built trucks, and the ark is not even an ark. I'm more of a civilian builder; military heads probably feel differently.

Shanghai Chase for sure. The vehicles have a more classic feel to them, and they can be used in many more settings that just military. Also, while I love having the soldiers like the ones in Race for the Stolen Treasure, the figures in Shanghai Chase are definitely more exclusive and have a greater variety. Besides, who can argue with two mob/gangster figures made by TLG itself? Did we ever think we'd see the day? :pir-cry_happy:

Well, both of them have amazing vehicles, but in the end I'm going to go with Shanghai Chase. The reason? Every one of it's five figures is both brand new and exclusive, while all the figures in Race for the Stolen Treasure could be found in multiple sets right from the start (generic soldier can be found in Motorcycle Chase, and regular Indy can be found in just about every flipping set).

Yeah same here.

Shanghai Chase, no doubt!!!

I'd vote for the set just for the Short Round, but the other minifigs are also great! The cars themselves are also quite cool and classy. I was very pleased with this set--probably my favorite 09 set so far.
