jobiwonkinosi Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Don't know if anyone's already posted something like this before, I apologise if they have. But seriously guys, where has all the Batman LEGO gone? The range has only been out for a year or two, and already the sets are incredibly rare! None on the LEGO website at all, and everything's ridiculously expensive on Bricklink. Why has TLC stopped distributing them? Don't know of any one knows, I just wanted to vent! Cheers Quote
liquidcross Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I believe the LEGO Batman line has been cancelled, and TLC isn't renewing the license. Which is a shame, because I enjoyed the sets (and the video game) quite a bit. Quote
The Penguin Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 (edited) Indeed, it has been officially announced that there will be no more LEGO Batman sets. We all loved Bats so much! After the great (I mean it) videogame there were still plenty of characters to make.... Gordon, Mad Hatter, Ras', Man-Bat, etc.... Now we won't be seeing it.... Personally for me, it was quite an unpleasant news. it's always a shame when a line is closed, when there's still lots potential in it.... //// Edited February 3, 2009 by The Penguin Quote
jobiwonkinosi Posted February 3, 2009 Author Posted February 3, 2009 WHAT?! That's ridiculous! Why did they stop it? Especially when there was so many possible new ideas and concepts after the game! It was the game that got me interested in the sets! Thats really disappointing, looks like I won't be getting much Batman stuff then. Ah well, might be trawling Bricklink. Thanks for the replies guys! BUT WHY?! Quote
Patriot720 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 This has always puzzled me as well Why did they cancel Lego Batman? Was it not selling well or were there more complicated reasons involved? Quote
The Brick Rat Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Matt, the head honcho over at the 'Legions of Gotham' website contacted TLC about the future of the Batman line a while back and posted this: "LEGO has confirmed for me that they are no longer making Batman product. They did indicate that the future is open, but for now they are done.Is it POSSIBLE that we'll see more from LEGO? Yes. After all, they also denied that they were going to make any Dark Knight related product as well..but we know how that turned out." That TLC considers the future open for the Batman theme argues that they still hold the license. I wouldn't hold my breath for future Batman sets, but there is always hope. Quote
jobiwonkinosi Posted February 3, 2009 Author Posted February 3, 2009 Oh well, it's good to have some proper reasoning. Thanks Brick Rat. Fingers crossed for the future! Again sorry if this has all been discussed before, but I'm new here! Quote
The Penguin Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 That TLC considers the future open for the Batman theme argues that they still hold the license. I wouldn't hold my breath for future Batman sets, but there is always hope. well, still the future is vague.... How long has it been since TLC released sets of a theme after a year gap? ) Quote
Athos Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 That's too bad its been shelved. I was hoping for a Mad Hatter hat. And Manbat and Clayface figures... Steve Quote
ED-209 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Man, this sucks! Well, I guess it's time to start cranking out the custom figure then, eh? Quote
Norro Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Batman is the only license I've ever really accumulated sets from (beside the untouchable IJ). I'll be sad to see it go, the sets were well done and great sources of pieces... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Eskallon Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Yep I am pretty sure they have gone, I should have bought some of the sets when I had the choice. Quote
Batbrick Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 It was a great theme and shall be sadly missed. I still believe that if the designers on the two later waves had given the sets as much new figs as the first one, then it wouldn't be gone. Oh well though, it was fun while it lasted Batbrick Away! VBBN Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 What makes me mad is that crap liscense like Spongey are still going. Batman was far better. Bad move, lego. Quote
KurttKrueger Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 I suspect this is why I've just forked out £15 for Batman and Robin minifigs via Bricklink. I would kill for a Batmobile and Batcycle :( Ah well, will keep watching Bricklink/Ebay for a good deal. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Even though I only owned 1 or 2 batman sets (don't remember,) it's really sad to see ol' mammal bird die like that. Just wait a couple of weeks and megabloks will steal the license! Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Cancelled.... In the UK it never started Batman sets were never available at major chains - where they? Why didnt anyone stock it? Edited February 9, 2009 by TheBrickHitHouse Quote
Dadster Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Aahhhhhhh!! I hadn't heard it was "Officially" ended. They had a gold mine there. So many characters. So many vehicle possibilities. So many "headquarter" or building possibilities. Oh well. Just wait a couple of weeks and megabloks will steal the license! Ugh. I could see them doing it too... Quote
Spyder Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 What makes me mad is that crap liscense like Spongey are still going. Batman was far better.Bad move, lego. I agree completely! This is absolutely unacceptable Lego! Quote
Justin Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 What makes me mad is that crap liscense like Spongey are still going. Batman was far better.Bad move, lego. I know we've lost a good license with Batman, but there's no reason to cry about it. And besides, SpongeBob is not crap. I'm sick of people like you, Holodoc, jifel, and other people criticizing SpongeBob. The criticism has to stop. I hate when people criticize, as it is one of few things I don't take lightly. Those criticisms bother the hell out of me. I like all kinds of different LEGO sets, but there are times when we all disagree on some things about them. Yes, some of the sets are better than others, but that goes for all themes from late '70s Classic Space all the way up to Batman. Quote
Shoc Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) Batman was actually one of my top favourite Lego themes, so I am very dissapointed to see it go! I like Batman anyway and the sets were very well done (mostly), this is a crazy descision on TLC's part. After the great (I mean it) videogame there were still plenty of characters to make.... Gordon, Mad Hatter, Ras', Man-Bat, etc.... Now we won't be seeing it.... WHAT?! That's ridiculous! Why did they stop it? Especially when there was so many possible new ideas and concepts after the game! It was the game that got me interested in the sets! Yes, it seems really weird to release the game just as they are ending the theme. That game is probably my favourite computer game ever, and bursting with great ideas for new characters and sets! Now we won't get that... What makes me mad is that crap liscense like Spongey are still going. Batman was far better. Yeah! I do like SpongeBob, but I much prefer Batman and the sets are much better, yet it just stops, just like Harry Potter did! That was also a great theme that gradually dissapeared. In the UK it never startedBatman sets were never available at major chains - where they? Why didnt anyone stock it? I always wondered that. I'm from the UK myself, and I got the first wave of sets from a local store that sells foreign toys, and the Batcave from Legoland Windsor (the only Batman set there). At least they started selling on Shop@Home, but I missed my chance to buy any of last year's sets. What was so bad about the Batman theme to cancel it, even after a complex videogame was made from it! I thought it was brilliant, obviously some fool at TLC decided it wasn't. I'm even considering using Bricklink for the first time ever, to get some of my missed sets/parts, but they seem very expensive at the moment! :skull: Edited February 28, 2009 by Shoc Quote

Yes, some of the sets are better than others, but that goes for all themes from late '70s Classic Space all the way up to Batman. I could not agree with you more Justin. It is tiring reading a post, and then have some player on there speaking how this is crap, or that is garbage, or how they hate everything. It is fine to have an opinion, and voice you opinion, but for goodness sake. We were talking about Batman, and then these guys come out and criticize SpongeBob? What they hey? Do you even own any SpongeBob? Clearly there are people like Justin on this site that do like our little friend from under the sea, and everyone should be more considerate. These last few replies were the straw on the camel's back so to speak, as I am a fan of the Power Miners, but there are a bunch of haters out there for that line too. Just be glad that LEGO is still making anything, and is not financially devastated right now. As for Batman, I just came back from the Dark Ages as the new Tumbler came out, and I was REALLY excited to see what else they were going to come up with. I sure hope it is on a break while we wait for the next movie or something to draw interest again. There were literally thousands of incarnations of the Batmobile that we did not get, and it would be fun to get a few more. Quote
captaincreek Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I am disappointed that the batman sets are out of stock and this has concerned me, I was just about to order some and they were all out of stock, they were later removed and I was really annoyed, the tumbler was my main priority, but that was the first one to go as a rapid amount of purchases were made to that particular set and I unfortunately missed out, did anyone else? If this is a topic that is not suitable or has a point to post, I really do apologize, thanks. Quote
Derek Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 This is a topic that is generally being discussed in several other threads. Perhaps they can be merged? I am just as disappointed as you, I was planning on eventually getting that Penguin Sub... Quote
Ricecracker Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I personally am indifferent. I do understand where you are coming from though, and I feel this happens a lot with themes that don't necessarily sell well in TLG's opinion. I do hope you find the sets you are looking for though. Quote
