Today I got this email from the LEGO KIC blog

Hello Skipper24!

Next week you will get to vote for a special LEGO City set that will only be available at Toys 'R' Us in 2010!

Starting next Friday, April 3rd, you'll have the chance to pick your favorite and help The LEGO Group and Toys R Us create an exclusive LEGO City set inspired on the theme that gets the majority of the votes.

Look for an email from us on April 3rd, and make your vote count by picking a new set for LEGO City!

Thank you!

See you in the circle

Me too. "Sorry, we are unable to process your request..."

But it sounds likely. It's like the Mon Cal Cruiser, but with city. A TRU vote.

EDIT: This link will work I am sure, I will add it to the first post for those that are interested.

I am starting to hate the concept of exclusives... remember that the word originally means that most of the people are "excluded" from having a chance to have them. :sceptic:

It's not nice from me I know, but honestly I wish they get only bad ideas and that this exclusive will suck.

Thank you very much for this infomation, Skipper 24! :sweet:

That sounds very promising!

It seems as if TLG detected that not only the SW theme hides a lot of AFOLs which would like to get some exclusive, big and outstanding sets!

I really would like to see another big Town Exclusive since 10184 Town Plan was and still is simply    !

The point about which I'm really puzzled is why there shall be only a very limited groop of people be allowed to vote. Will this then really be meaningful for the whole AFOL community?! Apart from that it makes me angry that the most of us (me included) seem not to be aible to then vote - that's  .

Imo an online poll (similar to last year's poll for an exclusive Star Wars set (which Calamari Star Cruiser won) on the TRUs website or a poll in every Lego forum would be much better since the results would be much more significant and it would be much more fair!

I could well imagine this set being around the same price class like 10184 - meaning about 150 Euros. And I could well imagine that one of the choices you could vote for will be (a set which includes) a hotel (which I really would like to get). The release date surely will be in January since 10184 came out in January, too (and apart from that the conceptional designs for the different choices are surely already finished).

So let's be surprised.

might be good considering its a city set, but it'll be sooo expensive :sceptic:

Who knows - perhaps it'll only be 100 Euros like 10193 Medieval Market Village - and that's imo really a fair price.

they have that at TRU?

I don't know prateek.

I only wanted to say that an exclusive City set does not neccessarily mean that it is 150 Euros like 10184 - or even more. It might be 100 Euros like 10193 - or even less (remember last year's CG Platform which was a hard-to-find set and which cost 70 Euros).

The CG platform cost 40 euros in Portugal.

I hope that we get never released sets, like a supermarket or even a zoo, and other themes used in duplo that should be adopted in system.

I totally agree with you, Lord Santos!

I don't see TLG releasing a spupermarket as an exclusive set since JFOLs surely would really like a supermarket, too, and so it wouldn't be wise to release it not as a regular set.

But a zoo might be possible as an exclusive set since it would need a lot of new molds which would make it expensive and therefore perhaps even better as an Exclusive than a regular set.

But of course nobody knows.

I can't wait for Friday to see the (hopefully by one of our member presented) voting options.

We have (front-page worthy, IMO) news!

The Future of LEGO® CITY Lies With the People

-Polls open for excited fans to vote on proposals for expansion of LEGO CITY in 2010-

LEGO CITY (April 2, 2009) - Architects and planners of LEGO CITY are at odds over which section of the booming metropolis should be developed next. After a Town Hall meeting was held on April 1, fraught with debate and indecision, CITY officials will open the polls to let residents solve the dilemma. The future of LEGO CITY is up for vote starting Friday, April 3 at Toysrus.com/LEGOvote.

Parks and Rec vs. D.O.T.

Sociologists and environmentalists are rallying around the LEGO CITY Parks and Recreation Board's plans to create a new CITY SQUARE that focuses on encouraging active play, family togetherness, resident interaction and open green spaces as a means of making LEGO CITY attractive to potential residents and business owners. Details of the new City Square have not yet been released.

LEGO CITY's Department of Transportation officials submitted two proposals for review and decision. The first, a PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION CENTER, fosters more use of public transit and reduces traffic on the roads. The second, a TRUCK STOP to provide rest and comfort for truckers, is badly needed as LEGO CITY's industry and commerce growth rates are sending an increasing number of large trucks in and out of the CITY limits. Neither plan outlined specific details.

CITY officials believe all three of the proposals hold merit and could be implemented with great attention to detail and fun.

Call to Action

Anyone with a vested interest in the future of the LEGO CITY is encouraged to log onto Toysrus.com/LEGOvote to help select the next phase of development. From April 3 through April 24, voters will find information and instructions about casting their ballots. Once the polls are closed and a theme is selected, CITY officials and Toys"R"Us executives may foster dialogue with residents over the specifics of the winning proposal. In 2010, public opinion will reign supreme when the new set launches in August exclusively at Toys"R"Us and LEGO stores nationwide.

"Generations of children of all ages have been building cities since LEGO bricks appeared 51 years ago," said Søren Torp Laursen, president, LEGO Systems, Inc. "To achieve our goal of incorporating more consumer insights and wishes to our LEGO products and experiences, we're once again partnering with Toys"R"Us to collect public opinion and comments to pick a theme that will help inspire kids around the world as they continue the city building tradition."

Power to the People

This is the second consecutive year that LEGO fans have been asked to help choose a theme for an exclusive set in partnership with Toys"R"Us. In 2008, fans chose the LEGO Star Wars The Home One Mon Calamari Star Cruiser set, which will be released later this year to mark the 10th Anniversary of LEGO Star Wars.

Thank you very much for that information, Freddie! :sweet:

The poll isn't already there (perhaps since it's in the US firstly very early the morning) but I already know which I'll vote for.

The set describtions are (mainly the one of the Public Transportation Center) very vague (surely intentional) so it's very hard to vote.

Truck Stop: :sceptic:

This would indeed be a nice idea. The classic truck stop was imo a brilliant set.

But remark that the trucks included in this set would be very, very big - perhaps even 8 stuck wide  . And since I don't like that huge trucks this isn't my favourite vote. Besides I'm very sceptic about what there would be included in this set (apart from some trucks) since we already have got enough garages. The only thing which would be interesting to see would be a fast food restaurant - but only for that you don't need a whole truck stop.

Public Transportation Center:

A public transportation center would be a great idea. But I won't vote for this option since its description is much too vague.

Shall that be a big bus stop with an office and two busses? Very unsupposably and surely not that a good idea since we already have got a bus station in the awesome 7641 City Life. Some seperate little sets which contain a bus (and at the best even a bus station) would be great. But only a big bus station as main part of an exclusive set?! I don't know. :sceptic:

Shall that be some sort of set similar to the awesome classic Airport Shuttle? Then this would be an excellent set! But with all that overpriced PF stuff it would regrettably be that pricey that I don't know whether I'll be aible to afford it.

City Square:

That's definately my thing! Some days ago I already draw a plan for a park with some benches, some trees, some dustbins, some flower beds and the lovely fountain of the brilliant set 10184 Town Plan in order to add a little park to the center of my Lego City (I'll show the plan soon). And I thought: It would be awesome if TLG releases a little park with a kiosk, a pavilion, a newsstand, a lot of foliage plants and of course some sort of monument! And now this could be getting real in about one and a half year - great!

Since it shall be called City Square I hope that this set won't "only" include all that stuff that belongs to a good and complete park I mentioned above (kiosk, newspaper stand, a lot of foliage plants, a pavilion and a monument) but even at least one regular building (perhaps a museum, a library, a coffee house or - at the best some sort of office).

So this is the option I'll vote for!

Btw:

1. I don't see the problem why a Public Transportation Center and a City Square can not be one and the same set. I mean: Why not releasing a City Square (with a park, a kiosk, a newsstand, a monument, a lot of foliage plants) and a bus station (with a bus) in one set?!

2. What I really do miss in this poll is a mall and a fairground! So it seems as if TLG doesn't intend to release a mall and/or a fairground - too bad! :cry_sad:

We have (front-page worthy, IMO) news!

Or at least worthy of it's own topic on T&T subforum. This needs to be bumped! I spotted it first at The Brothers Brick and had to use the search function to find it here on EB.

Well, I'm voting for the transportation terminal. I feel that it has so much potential, and could be done so well. It'll also tie in perfectly with the bus coming out later this year.
