WesternOutlaw Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Tick! Tock! Tick! Tock!... Good Ol' Tex has expanded his foreboding castle, Grimwell Manor. After nearly a year of bloody construction, this recent addition stands as the tallest structure in Grave Stone. While Tex is quite proud of the monumental Clock Tower, something isn't quite right. Since completion of the tower, strange things have been occuring. Right before midnight, a strange green glowing figure can be seen climbing the stairs to the tower, as if summoned by a mysterious force. Some of the local Indians whisper of the Spirit of Nukpana or "Evil One". They say He has been summoned by those seeking retribution for the young Indian men who lost their lives to build the great structure. And when the clock strikes midnight, a horrible moaning sound comes belching from the inner workings of the clock tower. My latest addition to Grimwell Manor, which nearly took most of my remaining tan bricks, the Haunted Clock Tower. I'll share some additional pictures soon. EDIT: Please see the Scotty's Castle Mystery Tour that has inspiration images of the actual clock tower. Quote
Asuka Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 A very nice clock tower with fine details like these protrusions beside that beautiful clock-face and the mysterious looking single flame. The roof construction works well and I like especially the neat stairway and balcony. Quote
Athos Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I think its too tan. Especially on that tan baseplate. Beyond that it looks good. I like the diamond shaped windows at the top. Steve Quote
Natman8000 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I really like this one. I like the minifigueres and all the architecture. So good job! Quote
General Armendariz Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I think its too tan. Especially on that tan baseplate. Beyond that it looks good. I like the diamond shaped windows at the top.Steve Its supposed to be tan because its based on Scotty's Castle. Anyways it looks great! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) That's again an absolutely amazing MOC, TheBrickster! I really it! The architecture looks (not only after having seen the pics of the real clock tower) very realistic! Nice to see that you added a "not spooking" minifig to this your MOC which is affrighted by the ghost of the clock tower. Very, very well done! WesternOutlaw Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Thanks for the feedback Asuka. You always have nice comments about others' MOCs. A very nice clock tower with fine details like these protrusions beside that beautiful clock-face I ran out of tan toward the top of the structure (at least with the smaller bricks). It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but had to make do with the pieces I had left. The roof construction works well One of the most difficult parts to make. As simple as it was, it took me more time than the base of the structure. and I like especially the neat stairway and balcony. You can't see it in the picture, but the 3-stud wide stairs open at the base (2-stud wide) behind the right rear column. I forgot to add a door/opening to the balcony though. I think its too tan. Especially on that tan baseplate. It's difficult to add that extra splash of color to offset the tan. I actually tried to add a little more brown to this creation just for that reason. I really like this one. I like the minifigueres and all the architecture. So good job! Thanks. Do you like Scotty? He's a bit hard to see, but you can see more of him in the Scotty's Castle Mystery Tour. Its supposed to be tan because its based on Scotty's Castle. Thanks General. You've got that right! See my comments above re. the use of tan. I wouldn't know what other color to use for the baseplate to offset the structure. I do have a large grey baseplate, but I don't think it would look right. The architecture looks (not only after having seen the pics of the real clock tower) very realistic! Thanks KD. I always enjoy reading your comments (esp with WW creations). Something I would have liked to capture is the arched and sloped architecture toward the back of the tower (as seen in the picture below): It was fun building this completely separate component to the castle. This is a bit more detailed than the other sections of the castle. Here's another image of the tower at a different angle. I'm still working on the interior and have a few modifications that I'd like to make: Quote
Eilif Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Great Job Brickster, It really captures the spirit of the original. When you visited, did they let you go inside the clock tower? Quote
Zorro Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Another magnificient MOC, Brickster, you really are a true MOX expert! I like how you put that flame and ghost in there a lot! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Great Job Brickster, It really captures the spirit of the original. When you visited, did they let you go inside the clock tower? Thanks Elif. It was actually closed for repair when I visited; but I don't think that it's part of the normal tour. It is a lot larger than it looks from the pictures. I like how you put that flame and ghost in there a lot! Thanks Zorro, but I'm really just a very basic "Studs On Top" builder. -just some minor details. Quote
