Madcat2000 Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) What is the baseplate size of Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, and Market street. What I'm asking is it a 32x32 green, two 16x32 grays, or what ever. The reason I'm asking is I'm going to try to build a similar building in LDD and I don't know the baseplate size, though I'm hoping it's equivilent to two 16x32 baseplates, as that's all that's available in LDD. EDIT: also if you know the vertical and horizontal spacing of the pins on the side it would help. Edited May 4, 2009 by Hinckley fixed odd title. Quote
JSN Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 All three sets are built on 2 16*32 plates, dark bley for MS and CC, green for GG. If you are making a Market Street style building you need this as the set splits in two but for Cafe Corner and Green Grocer you could build both on a 32*32 even though they use 2 16*32. Quote
Madcat2000 Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 Also how far set back is the sidewalk at the edge where the building touch and how far set back is the alley behind the buildings? Quote
Tom Bricks Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 The Sidewalk goes back 7-8 studs (It depends on where you measure from) and the technic pin is 10 studs back from the front. The alleyway in the back is also 8 studs long. When building the set it should go like this from front to back- sidewalk 8 studs at widest, 1 stud of the building, the technic brick (2 studs), 10 studs of the building, another technic brick, 1 stud of the building, and 8 studs of the alley. I hope this helps you. Quote
prateek Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 the sets are on 32x32 so you could use 16x32 too. as for the spacing, it is 9 studs, then a 1x2 brick with a centre technic hole then 10 more studs and another one of the technic bricks and the last 9 studs (9+2+10+2+9=32) Quote
Ricecracker Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 If you are ever wondering about the inventory of a set, you can consult the Bricklink catalogue. All three sets are built on 2 16*32 plates, dark bley for MS and CC, green for GG. If you are making a Market Street style building you need this as the set splits in two but for Cafe Corner and Green Grocer you could build both on a 32*32 even though they use 2 16*32. Actually, the Cafe Corner uses two green baseplates. Quote
tedbeard Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 The basics of the Modular Houses Standard (aka Cafe Corner style) including connection placement, sidewalk setbacks etc, are available as part of the LEGO Factory website. Quote
Hinckley Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Do we have an overall discussion about this somewhere already? I'll take a look... The basics of the Modular Houses Standard (aka Cafe Corner style) including connection placement, sidewalk setbacks etc, are available as part of the LEGO Factory website. That's more of a Market Street standard. So confusing sometimes. The distance from the edge works for the Cafe Corner, but not the floor size... Quote
Freddie Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) Do we have an overall discussion about this somewhere already? I'll take a look... I don't think there's a dedicated topic, but it's been discussed here, starting at post #27. Scroll down a few posts and there's even a graphical overview of how the footprint of these buildings should look like to comply with the CCMS-standards! Edited May 4, 2009 by Freddie Quote
Eilif Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) That's more of a Market Street standard. So confusing sometimes. The distance from the edge works for the Cafe Corner, but not the floor size... Its the same standard actually, and the TLG modular building page is probably easier to refer to than leafing through pages of threads here. It tells you where to put the technic pins for connecting the modules, and it gives the standard recomendation for 7-9 stud setback for the front of the building. In a later section, it gets into Market street module sizes, and you can ignore their recomendations, but the standards for placement of interlocking studs, and recomended sidewalk depths are the same. As for the depth of the building, some folks have mentioned various depths, but as can be seen when comparing the back of CC and GG, there really is no required depth. As long as your building doesn't exceed the back of the baseplate, you're good to go. Edited May 4, 2009 by Eilif Quote
tedbeard Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 So confusing sometimes. Indeed this whole subtheme generates masses of confusion. TLC identifies the Cafe Corner, Market Street and Green Grocer as all being built within the Modular Houses Standard. However, since the Cafe Corner was the first set released and they don't promote the subtheme in print (or anywhere outside the LEGO Factory sub-site) fans started calling it the Cafe Corner (CC) standard. Some of us in the Classic-Castle community (CC for short) were a little annoyed but what are you gonna do? And of course, Market Street was the only one labelled LEGO Factory and is also the only set featured in that web page. When you go to the LEGO website and try to browse by "theme" or "products" you do not see a "Modular Houses" section and have to find the three sets in three different areas! As things have evolved other terms got used as fans were originally not told that there was a "theme" and had to make it up. Without the "official name" we had to make it up and noone would have thought to use "houses" since we are building more than houses and in fact none of the three sets so far have been just houses! I have seen people talk about Cafe Corner-style, Market Street standard, Green Grocer-style, new-town standard and now we have: ... the CCMS-standards! WTF are CCMS-standards?!? I know I am tilting @ windmills but soooo much time would be saved if the company and the fans used the same terminology. I try to use MHS (Modular Houses Standard) even if it seems to imply it is only for houses. Anyway, sorry to rant a little, but if someone who is well-informed like Hinckley can be confused then what hope is there for n00bs? Maybe someday we will mostly use the same terminology. Quote
Freddie Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 WTF are CCMS-standards?!? Café Corner-type Modular Structure, I think. Could be Café Corner, Market Street, for all I know. Just as long as it refers to buildings that adheres to dimensional standards and interlock to each other the way 10182, 10185 and 10190 does. I reckon I've seen it mentioned before when pointing out that a MOC would connect to these buildings, so I didn't pick it out from thin air. Quote

Nope, I am sure you saw it somewhere but it is yet another label for something that already exists. I am just hoping that we can stop using a half-dozen different terms to refer to the same thing because it is causing confusion. As I wrote above, the " dimensional standards and interlock to each other" is exactly what we are all referring to using different words. If LEGO had just said "XXX is what we are calling this new line of buildings" we wouldn't be having this discussion. Maybe we should have a new discussion thread with a poll to decide what we should call it? CCMS, CC, MHS, whatever? Small edit: I did a search and you are the only person to use CCMS in this post on EB. I wonder where you saw it? I imagine other online communities may be having similar confusion and it would be good to include them in this discussion. Edited May 6, 2009 by tedbeard Quote
