Re-discover the bustling streets of Classic Town

Hello everyone once again,

I am now pleased to officially announce that the Eurobricks Staff category voting for the Re-discover the bustling streets of Classic Town contest has started. There is a total of 3 submissions for this contest, and this is where "you" whom is part of the Eurobricks Community, get to have a chance to decide the overall Eurobricks Staff Classic Town builder that is able to demonstrate the contest theme's objective.

In this contest, each Eurobricks member is only allow to cast one vote of their choice in Eurobricks polling system. The contestants' entries could be found below. Click onto individual thumbnails to provide a better overview. Voting ends 12th June 2009 at 1200hrs (GMT+8) until further notice 26th June 2009 at an unknown time.

All great entries, but in the end I voted for Hinck. I loved that almost all of the pieces he used were really "classic", even though he's definitely not old.

The building had great design yet still maintained the feel of an older set. Excellent work from everyone!

I voted for Hinckley because I like the look of his entry. I also like the minimalist interiors that were inside the buildings. The nice and simple designs are great, too. These two things really give that classic town feel to it (even though I don't know what that feels like ).

LuxorV and TheBrickster, your entries are great, too. I wish I could vote for all, but this is vote is to choose what you think is the best, though.

Just when I was getting used to the points allocation system...

I voted for TheBrickster's entry, as it manages the fine balance between detailed buildings and town life wonderfully. It looks like a bustling and friendly little community, everyone in their place, with a verdant splash of green to complement this urban setting.

Hinckley's is lovely, esp the blue building, but the facades just seem a bit... thick and chunky for Classic Town. I know Hinckley likes it thick and chunky, but I didn't think it was quite suitable in this entry

LuxorV's entry resolves the problem of the curved baseplate extremely well - a notoriously tricky area to build over successfully - but with the looming grey sky and foliage-free streetscape, this reminded me of a joyless Eastern Bloc holiday camp rather than a lively and friendly hotel It was a nice build, though and I wouldn't mind attempting something similar myself.

*you forgot to cover up 8 studs on the red building

I voted for Hinckley for 3 reasons: 1. He offered me 5 bucks; 2. He told us all to shut up in the first paragraph, I like that in a post; 3. I could see his model as a Classic Town set and I really like the design for the buldings.

All 3 entries are excellent, in the way of executing their Classic Town scene.

I have to admit that TheBrickster entry is really the one that has gotten my vote, with its beautiful buildings and the variety of 4 studs wide vehicles. The German cafe color scheme is nicely done. Great job everyone!

I forgot to mention I the little red telephone box too. Simple but brilliant! I'll be sure to steal that idea.

While I'm not going to cast a vote (it would be unfair on those beautiful entries which all deserve to win; what else can you espect from two kings of the Classic town like Hinckley and TheBrickster?! ), I'll say I the re-newed Classic Town feeling this contest has generated in me and a lot of other people who partecipated, both with entries and comments.

All three entries are very good, and very classic. But Hinckley stole my heart so vote for him.

A very tough choice indeed...

/rant starts here/

LuxorV's entry would look great in any town, regardless whether it's a 70s classic town or a "modern" tabletown - and that's what I really like about it. Besides, all the details such as the kiosk, the fountain and the lights at the crossroad are simple yet marvellous. The thing which fails to impress me is the scale of the building, especially its second floor, which is a bit "pre-minifig" in terms of size and does not look very appropriate when compared to the regular minifig on the balcony.

TheBrickster started it all with his as-classic-as-can-get entry. A plethora of other MOCs were built afterwards, pretty much in the same style and with an identical concept, however it was his which really came first and hence attracted my attention. I'm not really a fan of the "old-classic" boxy cars, but I thought it was a good idea, especially alongside the taxi stop. That and the London-style phone booth both look awesome here, even though they're just small details. The buildings and all the activity around them also look lovely, but I was hoping there would be some furniture on the inside - which is what I really loved about classic LEGO buildings.

And, last but not oldest least, I turn my attention to Hinckley. Ah, Hinckley. Where do I begin. Terrible choice of colours, outrageous concept - don't you know we're in the middle of an economic crisis, it's BLASPHEMY to speak of the good ol' times and depict (potential) oil tycoons sucking US finances from those banks! Besides, what's with the red steak that chef there is serving? Get with the program - vegetarianism is in, meat is out!

That's for throwing Scruffy's kettle at that switchpoint. Now that's dealt with, I have to say... I love this entry to bits. The classic yet studless design is a marvel and really works for me here! Seeing as I don't enjoy anything "too" classic, I find this concept simply brilliant. Same applies to the oil tycoon's convertible (white rims are an epic win here). Of course, there IS that bus stop with the weird seating concept... but the buildings in the background and their furnishing more than make up for that.

All in all, I found this harder to call than the "regular members" voting - even though there are less entries to choose from. If I could, I'd split points between Hincks and Brickster. But with this system I'll just go ahead and vote for the Brickster - because his "classic town" design was the first (and one of the best) of many entries which followed in his footsteps. And because I love the buildings. AND because Herman owes me one (besides, Hinckley seems to be winning anyway... a bit of competition never hurt anyone :) )

You're not going to let Hinckley or Luxor take me down, are you? You know the better creation, you're just voting for Hinckley because he's funnier than me.

I realize most of you weren't born yet, but let's focus on the exquisite "1979" MOC, shall we? Wouldn't you rather have this creation in your classic town? Do I need to place a picture of it in my signature to remind you?
