dotmike Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I vote for best line ever.People often ask what the i stands for, i say its idiot to pay those prices. Heh, heh! Seriously?! In a forum talking about getting the best prices for little bits of molded plastic, you're calling people who overpay, idiots?! Anyway, have you even seen an iPhone? Does your budget phone have a browser capable of looking up Brickset while standing in a Kmart aisle to see what the reviews of sets are like? Or a photo album useful for quickly checking pics you've snapped from catalogues? Or a PDF reader that lets you leaf through instructions books while building? Features that are just a drop in the ocean. Most iPhone owners think they're worth every cent. I've found mine an invaluable shopping tool along with everything else it does. I don't mind the "fanboy" tag, but being insulted for paying too much for my gadgetry is going too far! I suffer enough as an AFOL when it comes to being thought of someone who pays too much for things! Sorry for the distraction, just a bit rankled by the insults being freely dished out. Won't bring it up again, carry on. Quote
DarthSion Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I didn't say you were an idiot, i meant the prices are idiotic, as are some sets, like the RBR. And yes it can surf the web, so can the psp i got free with it. Quote
Siegfried Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Please, less Apple fanboy talk. I just ate... I said it and I meant it. Talk about the iPhone all you want here... On topic, I could do what it could do on my old Treo 600. Web browsing, full POP EMail, multitasking... Cut and paste didn't need an upgrade either. True it's screen was horrid in comparison (hardly surprising considering the age), but it had a keyboard and expandable memory. Two things that the iPhone doesn't have that make me not want one. Ultimately though I'd never buy a iPhone (or any Apple product) as they have too much control over the system. I don't want to have Apples permission to install software... Quote
Eskallon Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Now I know a great AFOL tool it is the Nokia N97, every night I check EB on my phone. Landscape, portrait and copy and paste worthy It is quick with the internet and has the pdf reader too. It can do nearly anything you need. One problem, your phone budget needs to be £499. Trust me though its a great tool. Quote
Siegfried Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Any smartphone is a great AFOL tool Now I know a great AFOL tool it is the Nokia N97, every night I check EB on my phone. Landscape, portrait and copy and paste worthy Very true... so I changed the topic title! The phone I want is a Palm Pre. It's lack of memory expansion annoys me, but I'm a bit of a Palm fanboy... The N97 is a serious option though. Quote
Whittleberry Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) Exactly, any smartphone is useful and can open pdfs and web pages. What I want to know is why you would use brickset to find a good review of a set. I have an iPhone too, and use it all the time when at the shops looking at LEGO, but I don't see the need to boast about it. P.S. Also, why are you on Telstra? Their plans are so expensive compared to Optus. Edited August 16, 2009 by Whittleberry Quote

Corvus Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I don't know, I'd be afraid to use something that expensive. Cameras excluded, of course. I'm fine with my little cheap phone- it's purple-ish hue is slightly annoying, sure, and I have to be careful not to have it out when my friends have their smartphones out. Some of those apps, (there's a Raptor identification book on one ) and internet access is pretty attractive, though. Quote
Commander Flash Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 In fact, I am on my iPod touch typing this. Pretty nifty for AFOLs. All the tools of a smartphone on a mp3 Quote
