word are missing to describe how nice your MOC is... A lot of fine details, a creative use of parts are definitly doing great in this building. A lego set of this size remind me the old MOC we could fine in shops during christmas when I was a kid. This is a great job ! :oo

Now that is very impressive. Very much like a set, but a step up from one. My only real complaint is it does seem a bit cramped - And the use of premade castle walls pieces detracts from the "look". Using a few white pieces to get the same effect almost always looks better.

Extremely impressive MOC, anything else similar planned?

Ooooo! :oD Very nice Apo! You have done well on this. I like it all really, great little details (I love the pirate attack bit!) The figs really add to the scene as well. It would look nice with a big pirate ship in.

first of all thanks for the kind words to all you guys!!!

A lot of fine details,

thanks!!! i always try to put as many details in as possible... i even place things in there nobody can see ever (e.g. here was a skelleton placed in that grey little tower)

its very similar to peter jackson's philosphy: the lotr movies became much more realistic and comfortable because there were added things nobody would ever see or notice at the screen. but they were there and they gave some athmosphere to the movies... its the same i try / do while building mocs... things are hidden or at least not very noticable, BUT they belong to the moc, they give myself inspiration and so on...

Very much like a set, but a step up from one

thanks, like i said in the first thread about this moc, the imperial trading post was the inspiration for this model... ;)

My only real complaint is it does seem a bit cramped

like already said, i like adding as many details as possible... ;)

And the use of premade castle walls pieces detracts from the "look". Using a few white pieces to get the same effect almost always looks better.

that is a problem, i thought about too... but these parts are a good compromise, i would never had enough yellow and especially white pieces to make the thing THAT huge.. *wacko* the original idea was, to use that castle pieces to make the buildings, the design with the bricks came later, first to make some single walls, then i began to use it even at buildings... afterwards i was very pleased by the look of white brick walls with some yellow bricks in them, if i will make something similar one day i'll use this style for sure much more (but nonetheless also the castle pieces, if i have not enough bricks... ;))

anything else similar planned?

currently no, i'm working at some big star wars project, that needs all the bricks and building time i have...

It would look nice with a big pirate ship in.

for sure, but i hadn't one build and i don't think there was enough space for a larger ship than those little boats...

I don't want to make your topic go off topic, but I couldn't help wondering..

i'm working at some big star wars project...

After all this time I finally get to comment on this MOC because the thread has been closed! Why was the thread closed, I do not know but after some discussion with Mr Jipay it has been reopened. Why? Because now we have the Pirate LEGO Directory and this is the first MOC to be nominated to be listed in there. So its only fitting that the thread be opened so the newer users can share their thoughts and opinions on this wonderful creation!

It would also be nice if its creator Mr ApophisV could join the discussion because I have some questions to ask him (here comes the talk show host in me  ), the first of which: Was The Imperial Trading Post a major inspiration behind this MOC?

Posted

If I'm correct, he destroyed it because he needed the bricks, and this is why he took some shots of the model. What always impressed em with this model is the amount of details :-)

Apophis: this is a beautiful MOC. I love the fortress the most (esp mixing in the yellow bricks to add detail). I also like the use of the palm trees and oak/big tree within the fortress walls. Great detail, and I'd love to set up some great battles with this creation. I just wish I had purchased some blue baseplates when LSAH had them available. I've got a MOC that I'd like to do and could use some.

Overall, 5 stars!

Great creation Apophis! I really like all the detail you've put in it, and yet stay true with the pirate theme.

You also did a good job with the mottling, I know it can be very hard to do well sometimes. :-)

Thanks for bringing this ooooold MOC back into discussion! :-D

this is the first MOC to be nominated to be listed in there

Thanks alot, I really feel honored!

Was The Imperial Trading Post a major inspiration behind this MOC?

YES! It always was one of my most beloved sets I ever had during my childhood and it's great details were always a huge source of inspiration for me!

Though I have to admit that the shape of my MOC initially wasn't meant to represent the ITP's overall layout.

The very basic idea behind this MOC was: Generating some sort of landscape (here mainly the rocks around the inner bay) and THEN trying to build buildings in this prefabricated environement.

I am not sure if the shape of the coast was inspired by the ITP I still had somewhere in my mind, it surely was subliminally present.

do you still have this moc or did you add to this section, apo?

Nope, token apart loooong time ago! :-/

So thanks alot for your nice comments, I think the revival of this topic might inspire me to do a new Pirate MOC soon! (If I find the time for it. (Dana, darling, would it be okay for you to stay at home and play LEGO with me at the weekend? X-D ))

It appears you spent quite a bit of time creating this Royal Port (it must have been painful to destory it), but how long ago did you create it? The thread was created September 2004 but obviously the pictures could have been taken years that.

The reason I ask is because 30 months later you haven't posted a single Pirate MOC (unless I've missed something!), so I be wondering what happened to all your glorious Pirate pieces and why you haven't put them to good use? Could the answer be summized to a single word response like "sold"?

DUDE!!!!! X-O NEVER!!!! The LAST person on earth selling his LEGO would be ME!!!!! :-P

you spent quite a bit of time creating this Royal Port

3 days! If you have a closer look at my gallery you will notice that I made in-progress-shots of the MOC.

The pieces itself WERE in use! :-P

I always used them here and there, some Pirate accessories at my Brickquest figs, white castle walls at Blackwhite Castle, accessories at my Hideout and Diablo 2 characters and my christmas MOC in 2004. My scythe projects also used several Pirate pieces.

You see, the parts itself were always incorporated in MOCs since this the Royal Port had been destroyed. Though I have to admit, that I were mostly more in Space and Mecha creations the last years. BUT since I am playing Gothic 2 (old, but great game!) I can't wait to find the time to build scenes from it, most probably the starting town that features a harbor and a huge galleon!

This post is a blatant bump to resurface this thread for the benefit of the new users who have joined us over the past month. The MOC you see at the top of this thread is among the first (if not THE first) Pirate MOC to be shared a Eurobricks, so it has historical signifigance. Adding to that its one of the most splendid Imperial Guard designs I've seen around so from time to time it should resurface to be marveled. So get marvelling!

This is really a beautiful and impressive creation, I love it, this is the best Lego port scene I have ever seen. I like every part of it. Congratulations.

I'm marveled! you so rarely see land based pirate mocs. It inspires me to get going on my outpost turret.

My latest MOC could be land based except I built it on a blue baseplate! Mr Ghoulrealm, is your Outpost Turrent a Pirate related MOC, or Castle?

that is really cool. everybody loves big ports but most people cant make them without them coming out more like a big box on rocks, he definitely avoided that. and of course, resembling the ITP slightly isnt a bad thing.
