capto Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 -The King's Keep- I've been lurking around here for a while and after sorting out all my lego and making a couple of bricklink orders, I finally got round to making my first MOC. The ship in the ocean was more of an after thought, cause it looked empty without it. I was trying to get some forced perspective happening, but with a size limit of 32x32 I'm not sure it really worked. I also realised just how hard it is to make even the smallest moc (and get the lighting right for taking photos) Anyway, here it is: Being my first moc I would love any feedback/criticism Cheers Edit: Brickshelf Folder Quote
Big Cam Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Very cool, reminds me of the repunsle tower since it stands alone, but it looks like a great start to a 4 point castle. Quote
commdr_neyo Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Really good especially for a first MOC. I like the sails of the boat, and the many other details (like the waterfall, the rocks, and the flags) are amazing too. Quote
Uncle Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I don't understand how you did something like this for your first MOC. My first one was garbage. How'd you go about creating it, like how did you know which pieces to order, how to create the architectural feel, how to create the rocks and waterfall, never having done it before? Quote
Perterz Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 He has been lurking around ;) Those techniques are pretty common here so it wouldn't take long to adjust I guess but does require a certain creative insight. The design reminds me off ISC's Falcon Tower which again is inspired by Noddy. I don't say this to bring this creation down, don't get me wrong, just saying this to point out it isn't hard/bad to get inspired when almost everything seems to be done already. It's great to see you have the ability to learn fast which is a good thing! Same with the ships deck, I absolutely love this ship tho! It is very well build, the sails are genious! I'd say keep building and sharing, we'll get to see more fantastic MOCs in the future, no doubt about that! Welcome to the forums/community. Quote
saberwing Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 dat looks really good! I like your ship. Quote
Skipper 24 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Excellent work for your first MOC . The mini ship is really nice, especially the decking and midget canons. Your tower keep seems to remind me of a mushroom though . Quote
Sir Dillon Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Your first MOC built or your first posted online? Either way this is very well done. The amount of overhang on the tower looks odd to me, but it works from a fantasy view point I suppose. The landscaping and tree is very nice, and so is the ship, but in order for the forced perspective to work the ship would need to be in the background. Thanks for sharing! Quote
capto Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Thanks for all the comments It is my first moc ever, as in since the things I threw together when I was about 10. You're spot on there Perterz. I've been lurking for quite a while and have copied been inspired by many creations- mostly from the likes of Rocko, Darkspawn etc.. And yes, it does seem that almost everything has been done already The tower didn't turn out exactly how I wanted because I ran low on pieces, but oh well. I designed the top in MLCAD months ago, then ordered the pieces it needed along with a whole lot of blue and grey, and just went from there. in order for the forced perspective to work the ship would need to be in the background.Ahhh I knew there was something wrong, thanks! Maybe I'll put a guy in there and make it his toy boat or something Here's some of the messing around I did in MLCAD ages ago that started this whole moc: Quote
Norro Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Some nice work there. A brilliant debut. And don't let the 'man' convince you that all the concepts are taken, there are a lot of original ideas still floating out there. I liked your ship, and the tower, while familiar, is well set in its surroundings. I look forward to seeing more of your works... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 This is wonderful! Your first MOC and it looks like it was made by a pro! Quote
posades Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 For a first MOC this is unbelievable; it almost has a microscale feel to it, but you managed to somehow fit that big tower into the scene. Well done, hopefully there are more MOCs to come! Quote
