Posted August 30, 200915 yr ENTERED None of you really know me, so I'll start off by introducing myself. Hello. I am -The Hyphen-, self proclaimed mad scientist, engineer, and AFOL; anachronistic, anarchic, and completely out of my mind. Nice to meet you all. Now that the formalities are taken care of, allow me to present my creation, the propellor-driven railcar. And just in time for it to still be considered train month. Yay! Inspired by the airplane-engine-mounted-to-a-train-car rig used by the MythBusters to test the "Shredded Plane" myth, (A video of the test can be found )as well as the few propeller-driven locomotives that exist. The most famous of these, the rail zeppelin, currently holds the land-speed record for a petrol-powered rail vehicle. Sadly, it is not motorized, so I use a plain 9v motor to push it around my layout. I do intend to create a proper MOC thread for this once the competition is over. Any and all questions, comments, concerns, or criticisms would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Edited August 30, 200915 yr by TheBrickster
August 30, 200915 yr Firstly Mr. Hyphen, welcome to Eurobricks and Train Tech! Now, to your entry. It is certainly inventive, and I doubt you'll have much competition with other similar MOCs. Very nice details with the (is it an exhaust pipe?) 1x1 cylinder on an angle. It looks like a cool concept and I think it would prove popular on an exhibition layout. Well done.
August 30, 200915 yr Also welcome. Cool, I did not even know this existed And for the entry, I would say, a train is a train, so why not. I am wondering btw how the engineer can look to the front
August 30, 200915 yr I would never have thought that a train could be driven by a propeller. As for your moc, I really like it, especially the little headlight on the side.
August 31, 200915 yr Hi hyphen, This is a nice idea, if the competition is judged on smiles per brick you stand a great chance. I cant help but feeling it need flames belching from somewhere though
August 31, 200915 yr I only had seen some rail cars with propellers on the front to clear the snow off the track, until now... This is a cool model you made, thanks for educating me about these machines! And welcome to Eurobricks!
September 1, 200915 yr Author Thanks for all the comments everyone. To answer your questions: Very nice details with the (is it an exhaust pipe?) 1x1 cylinder on an angle. Yeah, something like that. I am wondering btw how the engineer can look to the front I've been assuming he'd just lean over to the side a bit to look around the engine.
