Luke McAwesome Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 ... is because of the fact that dogs like to chew up your favorite LEGO. Notice, that the tan hat, the toros, and the head, were three of my favorite minifig pieces. Poor little guy. Note that his hands are completely gone. The second I leave my dog alone, he gets into something. This time, a MOC for one of my upcoming TTOTLM chapters. Bah, I don't know why I even try. Quote
5150 Lego Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Though i still like cats, dogs are superior! Oh, and cats can chew up Lego's just as easy as dogs. And since they like tall places such as shelves and such, mocs can get messed up that your trying to hide up high. So both have there advantages, and disadvantages. Quote
KimT Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Maybe this wouldn't have happened if you either closed the door to your room or chose not to leave precious lego lying all over the floor? Quote
Rick Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 How about not having a pet at all... my favorite option Quote
Eskallon Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 My dog never stays in my room while I am in there but when I am gone... (It in fact lies on my bed while I am gone). My dog has chewed up a few lego pieces but that was when she was a puppy. I lost my Indiana Jones boulder because she chewed it all up. Quote
Dr Kilroy Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Oh, that's why I like cats more than dogs. Tan hat was a rare piece? Quote
YG-49 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Oh, that's why I like cats more than dogs. Tan hat was a rare piece? 5 sets. Quote
Alice Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Cat's generally don't care about chewing on lego. Gracie and George have tried before but I scold them and they stop. As far as jumping on shelves and messing with displays, that has never happened. They leave alone everything I have displayed. I did come home from work the other day to find a zip lock bag full of lego had been knocked off of a table and if I'm building they like to lay in the middle of the bricks, but thats about as bad as it gets. It would be helpful to keep pets away from LEGO, even though the cats don't pose much of a problem.. I still shouldn't leave any LEGO just lying out. Quote
Joey Lock Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I don't like dogs. Thats not to say they aren't nice, its just. I don't like how they are really big and panting whilst up at your face. However Cats are not much easier when it comes to Lego. Theres hairs everywhere on my sets because my cat "Dinika" (she was named by our old neighbour) comes up and sits on little bits of Lego on my bed, doesn't seem to mind. Then when she gets up, all hair gets on my pieces! I guess dogs won't moult fur as much but they are scary and big. When I was round my friends house, I stayed over and his dog jumped on the matress, crushed my chest and licked my face. Then got off. I'd hate if he fell asleep on my chest. Man was he heavy! Sometimes if my cat sees a small crumb of food or something on my floor, she might try eat it, then once I pick it up, she will go for anything small on the floor, she tryed to eat a 1 x 1 round tile and a minifigs head the other day! However If I have to be honest, I am the one that chews some of my lego, well I used to. See when Lego Heads get fully jammed on a torso, you try bit them off. But it really doesn't help. Quote

My dogs are much worse than my cat when it comes to shedding. When I build it seems like I always have at least five long hairs from my dogs between the bricks. As far as pets chewing up my bricks, the only victim in recent memory would be one of the thornax balls from this year's Bionicle line. At least I got to see what the inside looked like Quote
The Who Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I've got two dogs, and they have no option but to stay outside. They literally chew on everything. When I caught one of the two with my WIP brickbuilt Super Battle Droid, they both went straight outside. Now they try to chew the wood panelling off of our house, or anything else they can fit in their mouths. Both of them are lovable, but stupid. For example, if they run to something, they end up running into it because they apparently don't have enough common sense to slow down. Quote
The Bricksmith Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I used to have the same promblem with my wife's dog chewing up my bricks. So after her mini poodle destroyed an IJ set of mine I took the destroyed MF into the kitchen and placed hot sauce all over them. Then with out saying anything to the dog I just placed them back in the mess. The dog came up and grabbed one of the MF and then spit it out and stated licking her mouth a bunch. Tried it with another MF and the same thing happened. This was about a year ago and I have not had and problems since. Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 Maybe this wouldn't have happened if you either closed the door to your room or chose not to leave precious lego lying all over the floor? Whilst true, I was watching him the whole time and didn't even see him grab it. It's because I have tan carpet in my room. Basically, he doesn't just chew up LEGO; he rips up our carpet, steals toilet paper(Not used, that gets flushed. ), chews up library books, ansd eats rocks and bugs. Here's my dog: (And no, he's not dead; just tired.) I know, so cute, right? Hehe.... WRONG. This dog rebels against us when we leave him home, for instance if we go to Richfield(A town thirty miles away) to go shopping, we come back and something's ripped up. We're starting to finally learn to shove him in his kennel, but we're usually gone for four hours each trip, so it probably gets a bit boring in there... Quote
prateek Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 How about not having a pet at all... my favorite option Or just get a fish. Or a hamster Quote
Corvus Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Fortunately, my dog doesn't have this problem. In fact, she's never chewed on anything. After reading this topic, I guess I'm lucky. However, there was one instance where my cousin's dog chased my cat right through the LEGO, over table, etc., etc..... it wasn't pretty. Quote
Spyder Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 (edited) If I ever let my dog get into my room, he almost always snags a Lego piece off the floor. He's already gotten a green lightsaber blade, and a couple other nicer parts. Why he doesn't go for the basic bricks that I have tons of, I'll never know. Even still, dogs are (in my opinion) overall nicer to have around than cats. (Trust me, I've owned both.) However, I would rather have a cat around my Lego than a dog. Something else that annoys me to no end is dog hair. And it doesn't matter if you have a cat, because they shed too. It's constantly getting into my Lego. Edited August 31, 2009 by Spyder Quote
JCC1004 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I have had incidents with my beloved kitty. Yes I love him very much. But he had a red snake in his mouth. It came out he's fine. Hie also has gotten uncomfortably close to figures and also bit ones hand off. He likes to bother me when I'm building, making moc, etc. My advice keep your mocs up high or out of the way. Only his hat isn't that common. Quote
SlyOwl Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 My hamster bit one of the buttons off my Mindstorms remote My sister had her at the time and let her wander off towards my collection... (pic is Bricklink) It still works okay, but you have to press a lot harder on the stub... BTW, I've got free Lego because of a dog, so it ain't all bad! On two separate occassions I've found small, slightly chewed, clusters of bricks, which have been usable, and frequently used at that! Quote

Big Cam Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I would suggest putting your LEGO's where your dog cannot reach them. If you know your dog has a chewing problem, don't alloe him/her access to your room while you are gone. Quote
Stauder Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 If you know your dog has a chewing problem, don't alloe him/her access to your room while you are gone. Alas, Logic triumphs once again. People, if you let your dog go in there, and you know it might happen, who's at fault? You, who could have prevented it, or your dog who is none the wiser from being yelled at? Stauder. Quote
HumanPackMule Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 This topic makes me really glad my dog's smart enough not to eat my Legos. I think he can smell my odor on them or something Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 I think he can smell my odor on them or something Right... As for leetting the dog have access to my room, the minifigure was missing for about two or three days. The minifig blended in with the carpet, and my dog just came in to say hello, and when he left, a minute later, I can hear the licking of LEGO on dog teeth. I figured the figure had made it o a box while I've been moving, but I guess I was wrong. So, yeah, it's my fault for losing it, and my dog's fault for eating everything. What's disturbing, is that my mom went to go pick up the dog's, er, chocolate droppings,, and found a LEGO hand sticking out of the pile. It looked like a minifigure was reaching for help! It was just the hand of course, though. Quote

You, who could have prevented it, or your dog who is none the wiser from being yelled at?That's most of the time. I always close my bedroom door, but, against advice, other people leave my door open while I am not home. Thus they get yelled at, not the dog. Quote
