10184-1.jpg

I just received 10184 Town Plan Friday and finally finished building the last structure, the Town Hall.

My Thoughts of 10184

What a wonderful set! I love the classic-time (1950s) style of the buildings and vehicles, as well as all the little extras. Integrating the Town Plan with Cafe Corner isn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I'm happy with the similar detailed quality that both sets share. (for an image of the integration, see Train Town 5).

I suppose my impression of Town Plan is "smooth", meaning the use of many tiles, esp. for the theater.

I love the roll-down garage door and hinged backside of the garage. The detals of the theater, esp the interior is superb, and the color and design of the Town Hall is among my favorite structure.

For Some Fun

I thought it would be fun to create a poll of what building within the Town Plan is your favorite. I think I'll vote for the Town Hall because of the building design and dark green/white color combination.

What's your favorite?

I like them all... there is something to say for every building. The architectural style of the theater, the really nicely finished facade of the town hall, and the authentic look of the garage. This scale is a nice compromise between the modular building line and the regular city line. It basically takes the scale of the regular city line and adds the detailing of the modular building line. Although I really like the modular building line and as long as I can afford it I will buy everything that comes out, I think the Town Plan scale has an excellent value to price ratio.

Unfortunately I still don't own the set, so I'm not sure if it's honest to say when I haven't seen it in real. According to pictures from reviews, I go for the theatre. The garage is also great, and I love the S.N.O.T. window. But a theatre is more unique, we haven't seen many before.

I bought Town Plan specifically for the gas station. I bought it on discount 50% discount at Brickfair, and frankly have only opened the Garage, pumps and cars up, leaving the theatre and town hall for possible trades with club members in the future.

My plan is to swap the green for blue, and make a nice Esso Gas station, since Octan needs some friendly competition.

The cinema building, definitely.

It has the most interesting colour scheme, best pieces and is a radically different design from any other official Lego building. It also has a nice level of detail with the popcorn stand and so on, and even hows a sense of humour in its poster design (I ended up buying the Creator Spider just so I could recreate scenes from the faux films!).

The gas station is nice, but would have worked better as a straightforward 32x32 modular gas station rather than the hinged version we have, which doesn't really fit IMO, although it looks very nice. The Town Hall has a great selection of dark green but just doesn't have the 'look at me' retro appeal of the cinema.

I'd have to say the Cinema  the gas station is second. The townhall is still a great building though just out of the three its at the bottom of the list.

Got it for $199 I think on sale at Myer a year ago.

The Cinema is brilliant

A lot of people will likely chose it as their favorite

One huge reason, I don't think we have ever seen a movie theater before in a set thus making it hugely popular

In addition it is nicely designed and has some cool features on the inside

This is a great and interesting topic and poll, TheBrickster!

This was really a hard decision to vote for the one favourite since all three buildings are brilliantly designed:

-the garage with the perfect exterior design, the roller gates, the big round window, the glas counter with food in it and the many accessory included

-the town hall with the perfect exterior design, the flower beds, the street lamp and the town plan - but the interior is too simple and too less

But I finally voted for the

Theater

since:

-its exterior design is perfect (mainly the lights, the display panels, the ticket selling points and the stickers with the different movies shown on them)

-the interior is amazing with the little food stand, the chewing gum machine, the movie camera and the seats with the screen

I'm really, really glad that I own this    set - not only the cinema but all three buildings, the vehicles, the fountain and the minifigs - since it is really needed for every great city layout!

Hopefully TLG will release a set similar to this one in the next years, too, then with a hotel, a street cafe and a shop or office building plus a taxi station and a small playground - that would be :oh: !

Greetings! :classic:

I absolutely love this set! The detail is amazing in everyway and I have a nice "old town" in my layout. I like the gas station the most, especially with the classic gas pumps and the nice curved trans-clear window in the front of the building...very retro! Also, I like the modern car wash also. This reminds me of a older gas station in my town that had one of the garages converted into a modern car wash without compromising the originality of the building. The theatre was a very close second, the details are just amazing on that building as well!

Nice topic brickster!

I voted for the Cinema, it's the only Lego cinema I know and the design is superb. I really like the Town hall, the colours are perfect. And that gas-station is one of the best designed Lego gas-stations ever IMO.

So glad I got this lovely set, and even better that I only paid about 100€ for it

I really like the town hall, because of the color. And the columns were done in a way I did not expect. I did think it was a bit shallow though.

I'd like the theater a lot more, if it hadn't been all stickered up. I really wish they'd printed the movie posters at least. But the design was very nice.

I didn't like the garage much at all... Don't really know why. Maybe I'm just not much into auto-repair...

I actually like the fountain best.

Seriously though, for me it's definitely the theater. It's so nicely done, has pieces in great colors, and as mentioned above, it's the first Lego movie theater. The gas station is nice, there have been so many gas stations already. And the Town Hall is kind of a pointless building IMO.

We're currently waiting for our Town Plan to arrive from Germany... Not sure if we'll keep the buildings as they are - most probably not, since we're going with the CC-modular look for our town, but the one building I definitely love is the movie theater. Of course, it will take some work to change that structure and give it a modular look, but even regardless of our plans, just for the idea of it, the theater grabs the top marks.
