GRogall Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 With the release of 10197 Fire Brigade the sets that where designed by Jamie Berard are now all released. I was wandering if anybody knows if Lego has plans to continue the series or will Lego go over to something else? I'm sure that a lot of it hangs up on how well the series sold! with around €150 a pop i'm sure that most of the people that purchased the sets where Afol's and not so much the children witch Lego primary target is. I for myself would love the series to continue and hope the next three are already being planed. Quote
Lupus74 Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 That would be great! I agree that the modular houses series is intended to attract us AFOLs. The sets are quiet expensive for children (collecting all costs a fortune for AFOLs as well... ) and the playability is not that high. They are meant to be displayed and admired. I would be happy if we some more factory sets like "market street" as well. I hope they sold quiet a lot copies so they continue the series. We have plenty of space to add at least five more buildings... Quote
gylman Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I am praying that they continue to release these buildings. They are absolutely magnificent - a riot of colour and detail, but still looking realistic and reminiscent of cities we all know . When people see my collection the thing that blows them away the most, the "wow, I didn't know you could do this with LEGO" comment, comes from the street that has Cafe Corner, Market Street, and Green Grocer on it. And soon a fire station will go up on that street. It's too beautiful for words. If anything will keep adults interested in LEGO, it will be this type of set. I think it's the best thing TLC ever made. Are you listening Ambassadors???!!! I am sad to hear, though, that we have just seen the last of a series designed by one person. I hope that whoever takes up the mantle will do equally good work. I would not want the designer of something as sterile and repetitive as that Taj Mahal set to be making these sets. Quote

I totally agree with you, gylman. Actually I don't know if I would have come back from my dark ages if I wouldn't have seen the spectacular CC displayed in a toy shop in Paris (even if I originally came back as a Pirate sets fan! ) I really hope TLG will produce more of this kind of sets, specially cheaper ones like MS Quote
Ricecracker Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I don't know if they will or won't, but at Brickworld, Lego was conducting a survey regarding them, asking if you'd buy more, what you'd like in them, and what colours you'd like them in. Quote
Thee Pirate Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I really hope Lego continues to produce them. I have the first three, I can't afford the Fire Brigade yet... but as soon as I can afford it, I'll be getting it. I want a second copy of Green Grocer as well, so I can build it as a mirror image of itself and put it right next to my first one. Quote
paul_delahaye Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I want a bank and a post office, they can't discontinue this theme yet! Quote
legotrainfan Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 A modular school building with several floors would be wonderful! Quote
hewkii9 Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I'd like to see one or two 16x32 modular buildings to go inbetween the really big models - this would let a town layout have more variety, and it would open up the modular building series to people with less money. And, since thinner building means less parts, we could get some buildings in really rare colors - sand red antique shop, anyone? Quote

That would be great if they released some smaller sets in this style. Maybe have one or two floors instead of three. I do not own any of the modular sets, but I am seriously considering getting Green Grocer while it is $30 off and Free Shipping on S@H. If Lego made some smaller sets, I would be hooked on this line, but as of now, its an expensive line to collect. Quote
Fumoffu Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I hope Lego will continue too. I think at the end of the day the best way to convince Lego to continue with the series is to continue to buy them. As long as the series makes enough money for Lego and they can see it continuing to make enough money then I'm sure it will continue. Quote

The Chronicler Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 i would like to see a private hospital as the next modular building Quote

And for the topic, I would love to see new modular sets, especially 16x32 ones to make them more affordable Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Interesting topic. i would like to see a private hospital as the next modular building That would be a nice thought. It's been a long time since Lego offered a decent hospital. I like the bank idea as well. Quote
Cavannus Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 (edited) Of couse I do agree that a fourth building would be nice, but I agree too that there is a strong risk of a lack of variety -- or something like a "patchwork" effect. Smaller buildings with 16 x 32 plates would be affordable and flexible, but they wouldn't fit in terms of scale (it's one of the reasons why I didn't get the Market Street). One more 32 x 32 building would add too much regularity, so I wonder if a private hospital or a school on 32 x 32 plus 16 x 32 plates would be great -- and what about the price? Or a 32 x 32 cinema would be great to break the line! Anyway let's keep in mind that it's supposed to take place in the 30's -- so let's forget cool things such as a supermarket! I don't really agree. 16 wide buildings could fit in nicely. In European old-town streets, you see a lot of variety in the width of buildings (supposedly as spaces between existing buildings got 'filled up'). As far as I'm concerned they can drop the 1930's 'requirement'. Except the old fire engine there is nothing really specific to past times in those sets up to now. And that engine can easily be used in parades and such... A supermarket in an old downtown building with apartments above would be nice. But I can think of a whole list of buildings that would have existed in the 1930s but haven't been done yet. So far the Modulars are far from repetitive and I trust Lego designers can come up with more unique designs and techniques. 126 x 32? that's big! (I'm sure you mean 16 x 32) Quote

Actually you're right, I lived in France for 30 years (!) and there are a lot of shoemaker shops, bakeries, bistros, etc. that are very narrow! For me CC and GG look European rather than North-American -- but not exclusively --, while the FB is typically in the US. So will TLG break the line and offer buildings from various areas? After all this would not be a barrier for fans who collect who of them! As far as I'm concerned they can drop the 1930's 'requirement'. [...] The CC seems to take place today, but the GG features a guy with a top hat, so it takes place in the 30's like the FB. It's the reason why I think Lego will continue this line. But I wouldn't care either if they offered modern buildings because as you say, we can imagine that the truck is for parades, etc. 126 x 32? that's big! (I'm sure you mean 16 x 32) Fixed! Thanks :) Edited September 6, 2009 by Cavannus Quote
MdrnMrvls Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I sure hope they continue. I've never been so hooked on a series before like this. I think my next choice would be a bank of some sorts with lots and lots of $100 plates. :D Quote
Mr Hobbles Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I hope so too. The modular buildings brought me out of my dark ages, and they're also the reason I'm still here. Bar the purchase of every single modular building and a few city sets, I would probably have forgotten about Lego again. Quote

Svelte Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Lovely pics, prateek! A building with dark red/ pink accents would be fantastic. It may raise a few eyebrows but it would also be a kick in the pants for the line! Is there an inspiration thread around anywhere? It would be nice if there was one place where people could share their inspiration pics in one place as a visual reference. Quote

I found this REALLY old thread started by Hinckley..... Back when he wasn't staff ! I think it has some useful pictures, and it might be worth reviving it. Quote
