Ready for building: So, there are two identical bags, and they're both numbered! (It would have been funnier to have a number different than 1).

Review:

Well, we finally have a small Ferrari set with two cars. If you look at the theme, you can see this only happened in the big Finish line; otherwise, set consists in a car with its pilot and some pit crew and accessories.

This is something different, with the flag-man and his small but long stand, and the Kimi's and Felipe's F1 speeders: it was eye-catching since preliminary pics surfaced one year ago. Flag-man can't be the most awaited figure ever, but his addition makes more sense than a random mechanic's.

For such a price, this licensed set is a good one. For a comparison, this set has the same price of 7635 4WD w/horse trailer or Agents 8632 and 8968 or that new ugly King's battle chariot.

The detailing on the cars can be appreciated on the front and rear wings and on the sides (funny how they unSNOTted the SNOT with those cheese pieces). Just by looking at the main pic you know there will be lots of stickers, at least they lie on single pieces; too bad this pieces are no the kind you can just turn 180° and use on the plain side if you want too. The problem is the three torsos are stickered too, and that's a big minus. I guess it all started out on the earlier sets, with pilots and pit crew having different torsos; stickers were a money-saving shortcut. But some will remember Telekom sets; all torsos were stickered too. Mixing classic yellow head with Licensed fleshie heads isn't a premiere either, see 8672 Finish line again. But it's hard to understand why has the flag-man's torsos to be plain and stickered too. As if Lego was short on ties... More stickers on the flags; the more you think about stickers, the lessers you like them.

Building is easy, yet repetitive since there is no difference between the two cars, but that's how it should be (and sometimes isn't in real F1!)

Rating:

Color scheme: 5/5. Based on the real-life model, it can't get any better!

Minifigs and accessories: 3/5. 2 points lost for having printed torsos, a Kimi face looking as if he was high and mixing fleshie and yellow heads.

Pieces: 4/5. This set is not what you're looking for to use in your MOC, but all pieces make sense in the set as it is.

Playability: 4,5/5. Not really much to do with the flag man, but two cars will grant kids hours of fun

Design: 4,5/5. See playability. Cars look great compared to the real life F60.

Overall rating: 4/5. A really good set, it would nice to have some other F1 teams too.

The final words: Over the last few years, the only F1 Lego License has been Ferrari. There must be a reason.

Very nice review. The cars look actually pretty accurate for such a small scale. And when you compare them to the older LEGO versions, they are a huge step forward! The fleshie figures look appealing (for me to use with my LEGO Harry Potter universe), it's a bit weird LEGO used the same heads for Massa and Barrichello. Is it me, or is that another head for Massa on the back of the box? It's also a shame that there are so much stickers, but it's just because if they printed them they wouldn't have much use in other sets. But the suited man torso could have been printed, and they should've made him flesh. Mixing both flesh and yellow in one set doesn't make much sense to me.

Nice review.

I don't have this set, but I just got the new F1 truck featuring the same car. I like the new car design, but I think they look much better without the 1x2 tile immediately in front of the cockpit. Of course that means passing on the sticker that goes there, but then I think they look better with less stickers anyway.

Comparison shot of the old (8654) car and the new one (minus that cockpit tile):

Great reviewe cobra, you really stepped it up, with a picture for almost every build step!

I never saw these in the store and for $20 I definetaly would be interested in this set. I love ferrari as well as a big F1 fan.

I'm surprised that they give you 2 flesh heads and one yellow one.

Is this the first time they have mixed a set like this?

This looks like a great set.

The only let down is that two mini-figs out of three are tan.

Asking the same question as Cam has this ever happened before?

Good review! I agree with it almost entirely, except I'd drop the Minifig score to 1.5 or so. The only redeeming aspects are different heads for the two drivers and lack of mechanic. Everything else is pretty abysmal in that department.

And the Cobra does it again! A magnificient review  .

I kinda like these Ferrari sets, too bad I spend my limited LEGO budget mainly on Pirates and Castle.

Thank you all guys!

@Zorro: Xmas season is getting closer (it almost already started here in Italy), that could mean a 25% off in shopping malls (side note: in 2009, here in Italy, Ferrari is the only Lego licensed theme to hit shopping malls chains and not toy store chains only)

@ Frost: you are absolutely right, but I wrote "a small Ferrari set"; those two you mentioned were far from small (or cheap)

@ BigCam and The master (sorry for the late reply): both sets Frost mentioned had mixed minifigs. Still I find it odd.

Thats an awesome set. I actually judge it by the cover this time... I shouldn't have backed out of the awesome offer when toysrus offered 40% off racers couple weeks ago. It was like only $12 here. :sceptic:

Good review, showing every aspect that matters of this set in detail. I think your rating is fair, though I see it as a problem that there are more F1 sets of other teams. Although this doesn't directly affect this one, I'd reduce the playability points a bit since having only Ferari is really boring. Without other teams contesting they also can't really have a victory!

But I have to admit that I'm rather intesrested in MOCs than sets, so my knowledge of how a product range can affect the rating of a single set of it is really limited.

Great review. Lots of nice pictures and I like the humorous guido guy start lol

I'm not much of an F1 race car person but I have never seen such a unique front like on the Ferrari in that picture you posted of the real one. What a strange front. It looks like it's barely held on and it has this weird twist and turns. Since they are made out of carbon fiber it must be strong and I'm guessing somehow that front part like that helps with the turning aerodynamics.

Wow. I can't believe how horrible this set is. Two times the exact same car, sticker palooza, mixed head colors, and one head is reused from a different minifig. Yuk! Usually I'm pro-stickers, but this is just going too far.

Then again, I was never one for Racer sets. :sadnew:

Good review though.
