Last Stand at Tierra De Los Muertos

The last stop south of Grave Stone is known as Tierra De Los Muertos, a vile prison where only the most evil of men were brought by prison train. No one ever escaped alive from the wretched place and it was eventually closed after years of neglect. Few remember the tortures and atrocities that were a common place within the prison walls, yet the spirits of the dead are known to haunt the place and its surroundings as the last reminder. Two men have come, allied with a common goal, the Phantom Rider and Card Creeper, in search of someone or something locked away in the prison's ghost tower. The dead have been awaken once again and have vowed to stop them. Will they survive their last stand at Tierra De Los Muertos?

Yippee! TheBrickster is back with a new Western MOC!

This is really an absolutely amazing Western MOC, TheBrickster! :oh:

I really  it!

The architecture and the many accessory and details you included look absolutely realistic and awesome! :oh:

If you did not write that this is a new MOC of yours but add an official Lego background to it and a fictional new Western logo and you stated that this will be a new Western set I immediately would have believed you! :oh:

It's really a shame that TLG doesn't engage you as a set designer! :cry_sad:

Or wait ... you and BrickMiner could open up a new company producing only Lego Western sets - then TLG immediately would notice how silly they were to not release some new WW sets and to not engage you as a set designer!

Very, very well done!

I can't await more pics! (Hopefully there'll be a promising interior?! )

Wow! A beautiful creation TheBrickster, I enjoy a Grave Stone creation that deviates from the usual black and brown. I'm really surprised by how well you've managed to blend these colours together so effectively. I think my least favourite part is the upper floor of the blue section as it doesn't have nearly as much juicy detail as the other parts, though the undead cowboy coming through the roof makes up for that a bit. Some of my favourite little tidbits (which I appreciate the most in a moc and try to include in my own as much as possible) are the cactus, coffin, "KEEP OUT" sign, trumpet and headstone.

The whole creatin really gives off a feeling of a place where you do NOT want to be, and that no one dares to be there anyway.

A superb addition to the Grave Stone collection!

I think you've got too much color in there... And the buildings seem too close together.

I don't like the blue. Its just too bright when compared to the other buildings. It jumps out at you way to much and, is so bright, it almost, hurts your eyes to look at. And the grey around the edges doesn't work for me. Though, I think that part could be easily fixed, if you put grey plates between the blue and the roof. And some blue between the grey and the Harry Potter window.

I really like the middle building. The sand-green and white is a nice combination. The dark brown is a nice highlight.

I'm not sure about the tan and white one. I know what you were going for, but its not working for me. I think you need to break up the tan with some white, especially on the clock tower. Also I think if you made the roof overlap the walls on the tower, it would look better. An arch behind the gate might be a nice addition too.

A missing, discolored or uneven plank on the sidewalk might look nice too.

Though, with all that criticism, I still think you've got a pretty nice MOC there...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I must say that I'm a little surprised at you not liking the blue structure Steve. For some reason, I recall you building a few brightly colored wild west buildings including blue and yellow (if my memory serves me correctly). In any case, it may appear a little brighter due to the camera flash, but the blue was intentional, and a color I had never used in my WW creations. Perhaps as Batbrick mentioned, adding some additional details to the top might look better.

Here's some "behind the scene" images of the MOC.

The entire creation that looks much smaller in the picture:

01.jpg

The Phantom Rider as he draws two guns against the attackers. An undead Union sergeant cracks through the porch. Its hard to see, but one of the sections is on a hinge to allow reassembly:

02.jpg

The blue building. The chain was an extra for detail. Perhaps I was thinking that the top section needed some additional detailing as well:

03.jpg

Two skellies in the middle section. I like Steve's idea to add a few different colors to the porch tiles:

04.jpg

The middle green building (Sheriff's Office). I initially had the prison much larger and added the middle building later thinking it needed more color:

05.jpg

I like this section with the hanging area. I think the coffin adds to the scene. I had thought about adding a hangman - perhaps I might still do so.

06.jpg

Here's another shot with the Card Creeper against the wall. I don't have an arch large enough for the gate, but think it would look better as well (at least in my in-house Lego boxes):

07.jpg

The prison and ghost tower. I must have rebuilt this section at least three times. I had also considered using a Union flag, but opted to add a bit of a Spanish look to the prison, based on Tierra del Fuego, an actual South American prison:

Different angle (from right side):

And one last image from the top:

In regard to the interior (Klauss-Dieter always asks about the interior), I haven't added anything inside the buildings yet - still under construction.

You're right, I did. I think what doesn't work for me here, is the blue right next to the sandgreen. It makes the blue seem much more bright, when paired with the cooler sandgreen. Its actually why I think its so hard to build a modular building (its hard to get colors that don't stand out next to the colors of the modular sets). It could be the flash too and I think its a bit the combination of blue and black that makes it seem bright.

The more I look, however, the more I like it. I think what would really help would be to separate the black and blue with some grey on the roof.

A very nice creation Brickster! If I was to suggest anything to improve upon, I would have the windows in more of a state of disrepair, missing shutters etc. Loads of great skellie action and beautiful tan and white colour scheme are a win for me. Great to see you back in Grave Stone.

This sure fits the Grave Stone settings well.

Great work and a nice mix of colours.

Why did you go for the new skellie, I thought you were "ol'-skool" when it comes to that.

Are you using new grey bricks as well?

You've got a really nice MOC going there Brickster!

My 4 years of learning spanish are finally starting to pay off  (Although why the French flag in what seems to be a south American/Mexican setting?)

I like the buildings, especially how you've got similar styles without repeating any techniques - I often find putting more than 2 buildings together runs me completely out of ideas. The tower is ace  , although I'd recommend shifting the clock up 2 plates or so, so it doesn't overlap the window.

The subtle use of the sidewalk/platform is a neat way to keep the intense detail flowing without obscuring stuff behind it. it works really well, especially the broken planking. It wouldn't surprise me to see you putting in some sort of function which pops the undead officer up through the planks...

I'm surprised you haven't put any IJ fedoras in there - I think they fit in well with a Wild West context.

Good job!

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

That's a good idea. I may wreck a side of the blue building to show some deterioration.

Great to see you back in Grave Stone.

It always calls me back - esp. when the wind begins to blow and the leaves change with the colors of Autumn. :cry_sad:

Why did you go for the new skellie, I thought you were "ol'-skool" when it comes to that.

I like the hands/arms. I did use the new skellies for a few other Grave Stone creations. Here's one:

Are you using new grey bricks as well?

Yes - on the blue house. Most of my bulk bricks are new grey.

(Although why the French flag in what seems to be a south American/Mexican setting?)

That's a Mexican flag (created for my Alamo-inspired fort). Although the 1824 may be out of place.

I liked the thought of making this creation "South of the Grave Stone border".

The tower is ace  , although I'd recommend shifting the clock up 2 plates or so, so it doesn't overlap the window.

I actually had it above originally, and moved it down. I would have just added another layer of tan, but I ran out of bricks.

It wouldn't surprise me to see you putting in some sort of function which pops the undead officer up through the planks...

There is a hing on one of the sections to return it to the "unbroken state". That's a great idea though.

I'm surprised you haven't put any IJ fedoras in there - I think they fit in well with a Wild West context.

Yes - definately. That's a great part.

Great MOC once again Brickster.

Thanks Hound Knight.
