Governor Mister Phes Posted January 10, 2006 Governor Posted January 10, 2006 How much would you pay for a used Enchanted Island? Here's the auction I certainly wouldn't even if it does include an Islander Catamaran. The last one of these I picked up for around US$25 but US$118 is outrageous! Even if it was the original version MISB. Is there anyone that would pay the amount shown on this auction? Quote
Starwars4J Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 $25? That's LOW, I'm amazed you were even able to buy it that low in a store on sale! Considering this was the largest Islanders set, and that it's old, and complete, and with an extra set...it doesn't surprise me. Of course I'd never pay that much, but still ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 10, 2006 Author Governor Posted January 10, 2006 Maybe it was closer to US$32 after postage but from time to time I manage to come a cross a lucky find. I've also got Eldorado Fortress and The Imperial Trading Post for around US$30. They don't usually go that cheap in my neck of the woods, but when one does I'm on to it right away! Quote
Norro Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I only have the rerelease and I only bought that for parts... never was an Islanders fan so wouldn't pay nearly that much. God Bless, Nathan Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 11, 2006 Author Governor Posted January 11, 2006 How much did you get the re-release for Mr. Norro? Before postage I think mine cost around US$50 over eBay for one in MISB condition. It was also the first large set I purchased over eBay. A historic event to be sure. :D Quote
Evil Willy Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 oo wow...What the **** are these guys thinking...Its 400 pieces! Thats ridiculous.... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 11, 2006 Author Governor Posted January 11, 2006 What do you mean by that Evil Willy? Are you referring to the people bidding on the auction, or LEGO for putting 400 pieces in the sets? Quote
john cleese Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 $o.oo dollars i dont buy a "used" anything. I mean what if its discolored and their is 2 chewed peices and it says that its "lightly worn" then what? i only ever have bought sets that havent been opened and that will be my philosophy for the rest ofmy lego building life. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I don't think a used set would be worth more than about $40 US. I personally only by MISB sets or I don't buy the set at all. After just checking the starting price for this set on Brick Link, it starts at $42, so I was pretty close. A new set starts at $69. Considering this set was re-released, that brings the value down in my opinion. It's not as rare. In addition, I don't think this is that good a set either. But if you really wanted one, I would pay the extra for a new set in a sealed box, which should not be that hard to find. This is one Legend that I passed up. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 11, 2006 Author Governor Posted January 11, 2006 Yes, I agree that re-releasing a set devalues it by making it more common. However, I think that it DOESN'T decrease the value of the original version providing it is MISB due to the fact the packaging different. Quote
Norro Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 How much did you get the re-release for Mr. Norro? Whatever lego charged... I forget. God Bless, Nathan Quote

However, I think that it DOESN'T decrease the value of the original version providing it is MISB due to the fact the packaging different. I think it does devaluate the original, because despite different packaging, it's still the same set and makes the set less rare. Still, I think the original is worth more than the re-release. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 12, 2006 Author Governor Posted January 12, 2006 Well Brickster, make sure you let the other collectors know this when I go to get the MISB originals off eBay :D Quote
Island boy Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 >8-) ;-) People have gotten rediculous when it comes to ebay.I agree with you about rediculous pricing. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 23, 2007 Author Governor Posted May 23, 2007 Do you have this set Island Boy? And what's happened to KAHUKA? Quote
Landlubber Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I dont think Island boy is that much of a hardcore lego fan. Maybe he has no money. As for me, I paid $2.35 for my enchanted island. The other one someone gave me for my birthday. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 23, 2007 Author Governor Posted May 23, 2007 $2.35? From eBay? How complete was it ? Quote
simonwillems Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 two dollars and 35 cents is not very much for an Enchanted Island, I thought I was pretty lucky myself for buying the set MISB off ebay for 30 euros.... Quote

How complete was it ? two dollars and 35 cents is not very much for an Enchanted Island, I thought I was pretty lucky myself for buying the set MISB off ebay for 30 euros.... Maybe he made a typo! :-D I guess he wanted to say $23,50... But I could be wrong... Anyway, 2,35 dollars seems ridiculously low for a set this large... It would be a great deal if it's in good condition and complete though! Mr Tiber Quote
Landlubber Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 No typo, and 100% complete. Had it in my watchlist and forgot to bid. Apparently so did everyone else so the guy relisted it. I was the only 1 to bid the next time around and got it for 99 pence. Even had the instructions with it. Quote
