LowLUG member TAFOL has 'discovered' a picture of a new element: a 1 x 1 brick with a stud on 1 side in 30008 Creator snow man, which can be found in Bluefiddle's Brickshelf gallery.

Building instruction (from lego.com): http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildin...ons/4581336.pdf

Bricklink has the part erroneously inventoried as a 1 x 1 headlight brick.

Personally I've been waiting for this element for quite a while. Should provide a very good alternative to a 1 x 1 technic brick with a half-pin in System building.

I know reading is overrated, BUT:

As alternative for this part, I am using [pic] and I put this piece into the hole [pic] final result is like that new part.

Do you see, Milan?

Conversation is much more fun, when people read before they post.

My mistake, sorry, will not happen again!

I did read it all, but it looks like I did not read well...

I've been wanting one of these since the beginning of... me wanting these. The old ones are really hard to snot with, as they don't match up with any other piece.

In the AT-ST in the Battle of Endor though, the old one with a 1X4 tile somehow was supposed to match up with the piece where the studs bulge slightly outward.

If I knew the names for these things, it would make more sense, but all in all I'm saying that I like the new piece.

me to!

This looks like a very usefull piece, with the big advantage of having a solid back, and no dreaded blue half pin showing!

Stacking the two types alternately on top of one another with tiles attached to the fronts would make a very interesting texture. A very good addition to the parts palette for sure.

I feel like I have seen thsi piece before but I'm proabbyl jsut thinking it up.

This is a valuable piece. I wondfer if it will be in anythign else? If not it may be hard to come by.

The main benefit with the new "1x1 with stud on the side" is that it will allow TLG to create models where the "1x1 technic + 1 stud" was illegal. This is because the stud height is different between the two (a 0,12 mm difference). Read more in the following interesting and usefull document:

http://bramlambrecht.com/tmp/jamieberard-b...stress-bf06.pdf

In other words, the new brick is strategically much more important that one might first think.

A second benefit with the new 1x1 compared to the 1x1 with technic hole + pin, is off course that the new has a fixed stud, and thus any brick attached to it will fit more snuggly and won't rattle or twist around so easily.

Hah, about time!

Now, they just need to stick these new bricks on EVERY SET EVER so they can be viable for MOCs (with high supply it would be readily available on BL or maybe S@H). As it stands, I'll probably still use the old version for my future projects.

The headlight bricks have one advantage - the depth of the brick behind the 'front' stud is exactly the same as two plates (will try to post pic) which may be useful, although I've yet to use (or see) this in any MOCs.

Still, I agree the new piece is not a moment too soon - I'm sick of random blue half-bushes visible through trans-clear plates :classic:

Bought a snowman, my local TRU had a bunch.

It comes with 6 of those SNOT pieces (plus quite a few good MOC pieces like jumpers), so I'll buy some more.

Meh, not so exciting for me. The technic brick solution worked just fine for me so far. It would have been much more exciting if it had another stud on one of the adjacent sides of the one it already has. Now that would have been useful!

I just hope it doesn't replace the old indented one completely.

I am looking forward to getting some of these. For the most part you can use similar parts instead of this piece, but having a solid back and immobile stud will be very useful. Thanks for sharing the news Rick!

I believe the interior of the Emerald Night locomotive uses this technique too, with the headlight bricks being sideways.

I'm glad to see the patent on this brick finally expired so that Lego could start making their own clone of this common non-Lego brick. These give you the ability to extend a 1x4 studs on two sides brick outward to mount a 1x5, or 1x6 brick in snot construction. (And yes, there are 1x5 bricks, the patent is still good on them so Lego hasn't cloned any yet).
