Continuing my reviewing process of old set, I choose a set from Futuron series : Interplanetary Rover

imgp8254_800x600.jpg

This set was released in 1988.

Set data:

6925: Interplanetary rover

Year: 1988

Theme: Futuron (space)

Pieces: 198 + 2 minifigs

Price : At the moment, this set is sold 130$ on Bricklink (New with box) or 30$ used

Building time: 25-30 min

More informations: Brickset Lugnet Peeron

The box:

The box shows the rover in action on a planet. The background is the classic one for this theme.

Box content:

All the pieces are here. The colour scheme is quite uniform: black and white. The only yellow pieces are the astronauts.

Minifigs:

imgp8229_800x600.jpg

There are two regular minifigs and two bots. The two astronauts are the same: a classic head with a smile (the good guy head ! ) , yellow helmet and cylinder, and a beautiful torso : yellow and white with the Lego space logo. The two bots are brick build.

Interesting parts:

Here are some interesting parts: a fence, an horizontal hinge, and a metal detector -like piece.

The building:

The building begins with the frame of the rover. There are two parts linked with this articulated piece which allow the rover to turn.

Add some colour:

The next steps consist to add a white level to the frame. You can notice at front the rough shape of the cockpit, with these two beautiful printed tiles.

A little problem:

A little problem which occurs too often in my taste is the breakdown of this hinge in the middle. During the building, almost each time you add a new piece to the structure, the hinge breaks!

The garage of the exploration vessel:

This area has a really nice shape, and offers a great protected space inside.

imgp8242_800x600.jpg

This garage goes at the rear of the rover. As you can see on this picture, the upper part is linked with hinge to allow the little vessel to goes outside!

Exploration vessel:

Talking about the vessel…

Here is the second astronaut driving his craft. The design is very simple, but you can notice the seat which allows a minifig to seat with air tank!

Final overview:

imgp8249_800x600.jpg

The model is now complete fellows, you are ready to start the exploration of the galaxy!

As you can see, the two bots take place behind the driver, and you can remove them when you need to go in a dangerous exploration! The wheels work two by two: there is a 1x6 technic brick with holes behind them, articulated around one pin. So, it’s working as a suspension.

As Buzz Lightyear used to say: To infinity and beyond !

Unfortunately, close to the end of the galaxy, you never know who you can meet, and nobody will hear you screaming...

Review:

As far as I’m concerned, I think this set is really well done. The playability is very good: two minifgs, two bots, and a vessel! But the rover has a weird design: the driving cabin is protected by a windscreen but the rear is open…Fortunately, the driver keeps his air tank inside of it ! The garage for the vessel is really well done even if the pilot spend his time in the dark, waiting for an exploration…

Minifig: 4/5 (5 if they were not the same  )

Pieces: 3/5

Playability: 5/5

Construction: 3/5 (The fragile hinge and the little weird design cause this note)

Overall rating: 4/5

Thanks for reading my review !

Hope you'll like it, and let me know if you don't!

Hello!

This was one of my very first sets, and I loved it for the little hangar and the cute hopper in it. :classic:

Thanks for bringing back old memories!
