Chewk Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 A small outpost near Jerusalem built during the Third Crusades. Constructive criticism would be appreciated, especially since this is my first attempt at building something castle related. Thanks! More here. -Chuck Quote
Rick Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Even though it's a little small (I'd make the walls and the tower higher), I like the 'straight' design of the outpost. The walls shows that the quality of bricks nowadays isn't that high as it used to be, as they don't line up, which is fine for a castle creation but isn't how it's supposed to be. Quote
Legostein Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hello! That is very impressive! It's only small bricks without any bigger pieces. It looks like a real stonework. I am especially fond of those SNOT very narrow windows. The falcon on the tower looks very cute at its position. Very well done little castle! Cheers, ~ Christopoher Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Nice MOC. It is a very simple design but you built it very well. I particularly like the way you built the window slits and the arches. It looks very nice and fits the title perfectly. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 3, 2009 Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 3, 2009 The staff is having a private chat with Chuck (Chewk) to settle some things as he was a previously banned member. I'll leave this thread open and we'll see how our chat goes. Quote
BlueBard Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Simple but with nice detailed techniques Quote
Ras 74 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 A really great Moc Chuck! I like the narrow windows you did, and also the arches in the lower lever that is covered up. It makes a great structure in the wall. Also like that you used 2x2 bricks to make it look more accurate. Is there any interior? I was wondering about the arch where you put some plates, is it just 1x1 plates stuck up there? Will you build more in this theme as well? Quote
ANT Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I find your MOC very nice You achieved a style for your walls I really like, some kind of a "plain" design. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Yeah I like it as well. Perhaps tan walls would be better, to fit with the desert landscape. Quote
Commander Laquiet Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) Great work! I think this a perfect outpost, and the red minifigs add nice colour! The pictures are very good, too. Once again, great work! Edited December 5, 2009 by Commander Laquiet Quote
CommanderFox Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Nice little tower MOC Chuck! I like all the SNOT. Also as others have comented the windows and the archs on the bottom level look fantastic! Great job with this. CommanderFox Quote
Hound Knight Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Excellent work, very "crusadery". It looks very nice on the tan base. Quote
Chewk Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 A really great Moc Chuck!I like the narrow windows you did, and also the arches in the lower lever that is covered up. It makes a great structure in the wall. Also like that you used 2x2 bricks to make it look more accurate. Is there any interior? I was wondering about the arch where you put some plates, is it just 1x1 plates stuck up there? Will you build more in this theme as well? There is space for an interior, but I have not yet fleshed it out. As for the arches, I I used a 2x2 bracket to fill out the gap left by the 2x2 tile so it wouldn't wiggle, because it is 1/2 plate thick. I also used a 1x2 panel to make sure it wouldn't fall out. I'll try and take construction pictures for you. I do intend on building more in this theme, specifically 11th century life in the Middle East during the 3rd Crusades. In fact, I'm thinking of expanding the baseplate and the footprint of the castle itself. -Chewk Quote
JeffD984 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I like this! It's just missing Altair from Assassin's Creed! Quote
Chewk Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 I like this! It's just missing Altair from Assassin's Creed! Its funny you should say that; Assassins Creed is what got me into the mood to make this! Quote
Big Cam Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I was thinking the same thing, it looks like a scene from Assasins Creed. THe walls look great, such a simple process but such a great result, also kudo's on the windows, they look very similar to that period of time. Great work! Quote
JeffD984 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Haha, that's funny! Is that why the eagle is perched up on the top? Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Very good MOC ! Love the stone work, those knights are very good at a lot of things and they most have quite a bit of free time to do their own masonry work. Again great, no FANASTIC yes, work ! Quote
Forresto Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 This is really nice. I like the snotwork on the windows and the uneven sizes of the old and new bricks really gives the MOC life. My only grievence is that it's a little short and would only survive a small skirmish against Ottamons and other factions back then. I know it's just an outpost but if it was just maybe taller by 4 or 3 bricks it would be fine. I's fine without the changes i'm just giving you a suggestion. Great work Quote

cdljal Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 This is a really neat tower. Nice little place for Crusading armys to rest and refit before continueing on to Jeruselum Quote
Tereglith Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 This is a very nice and tidy little tower. Did anyone else think of the French taunters when they saw the first picture, though? "I told him we already got one!" Quote
