Dennimator Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 When I bought the 7754 Home One Mon Calamari Star Cruiser set, I directly noticed that there was something different with the cockpit glass piece. It wasn´t cut off at the front, so there was kinda like a plate on it. It didn´t look like a mis-mould as it looked so cool and smooth over the part that shouldn´t be there, so at first I thought it was a new part. Then I checked BL, and it said that the set just had the normal cockpit piece. Then I understood it must´ve been a mis-mould (the front 'tile'-part weren´t cut off or something). Here are some pics: IMO this really is a great mis-mould, as there are loads of MOCs where one of these would be much better than the 'normal' ones. Have anyone seen any of these before? Personal experiences? Pics? Quote
Big Cam Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Wow, that's crazy. The front piece is now 4 studs correct? That would add a little more versatility to the piece. Quote
Etzel Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 It's not a mis-mold, it's a new piece and it's used in one of the new Space Police III sets: Link Quote
Scouty Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I'm sure that this is NOT a mis-mold. It's too precise to be one and looks perfectly fine. So, stop calling it that ( ) It's an interesting modification of the old piece. It doesn't look to well aesthetically, but it does help in it grasping to the plates. Quote
Ricecracker Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 You were right when you thought it was a new piece. The piece is in new 2010 sets, though I guess some earlier sets that were made later on in production have them too. Here is the piece on BL. Quote
Legostein Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) Hello! Well, it's possible that this piece will be the regular successor of the current one. The trans-dark blue version of it has already been spotted in the new Space Police sets, so it might be that the current version is slowly replaced by this new modification, a process that we already know too well. There is even a catalog entry on BrickLink already: Windscreen 7 x 4 x 2 Round Extended Front Edge (30384b) All the best, ~ Christopher EDIT: okay it seems that both of us had the same thought at the same time. Sorry for double information now. Edited December 3, 2009 by Legostein Quote
Big Cam Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Weird, I checked a previous review of the Home one set and it had the old style. They must hvae switched the part mid cycle. Quote
prateek Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Weird, I checked a previous review of the Home one set and it had the old style. They must hvae switched the part mid cycle. I think so too. Even on the box of the Raid VPR, it shows the old piece. Quote
Dennimator Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Oh... Thanks guys. Now I feel stupid. Quote
Ronan Dragonov Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I have the new canopy in trans-blue from Space Police III 5981 Raid VPR. I wish I had it in smoke for my Ultra Sea Dragon. Quote
Siegfried Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 It's a nice and smart piece mod which will make that piece more usable... but it's weird (and rather annoying) that TLG seem to be replacing the old. Luckily I have loads of that canopy. (I changed the title to avoid confusion.) Quote

Siegfried Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Looks like snub-nosed canopies are the way of the future Snub ships I like... snub canopies, not so much! Stuff like this... ...won't work as well IMHO. As it is the "bubble" effect works... adding the do-hicky-thing-me-bob at the front would ruin the flow of the lines. (Look what you've done to me; now I'm talking about "flow" and "lines". Next I'll be buying a murse...) Quote
Peppermint_M Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I like the old piece, its key to creating the major look of my spacecraft! BubbleMint and Lycoris would never have been built with that ugly excess plastic! Looks like I'll be using bricklink a whole lot. Quote
Ras 74 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I can´t decide if I like it better or not. It sure will be more sturdy on hingees to some SW models. I think I got the older one to my Home One set. Definatley have to take a look when I get home. Quote
