WesternOutlaw Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Night-time would find me in Rosa's cantina; Music would play and Felina would whirl. -El Paso by Marty Robbins My second addition to the Old Mexico sub-theme, Rosa's Cantina: I'm still working on the interior. The sign is a custom decal. Additional Pictures Front: The begger torso is that of a White Ninja: The Imperial Guard serves as a nice officer of the Mexican Army: Rosa with jealous boyfriend: Custom decal: Spanish style window with bars: Side view: Young Mexican lad taking his first drink (note, he didn't listen to his mother who warned, "don't take your guns to town": Right angle: Comments welcome Quote
Rick Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 (edited) That's an incredible MOC again TheBrickster. I really like how you've managed to pack this detailed cantina on a 16 x 32 baseplate. I like the cherry decorations, the bars in front of the window, the sign (with the two cups and custom sticker) and the use of an imperial for a Mexican soldier (especially with this expression) works really well... the balcony design is my favorite part though. Did you build an interior for it? Edited December 8, 2009 by Rick Quote
Ras 74 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Another great set to your Mexican theme Brickster! Looking forward to see that interior of yours. Once again you really captured the feeling of a Mexican house. This one feels like it could have been taken from a Zorro movie Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Ah, love that song. Great MOC, I'm loving the colour scheme. That sign looks great, the decal is wonderful and I like the addition of the two cups. That window design is quite nice too, though it does look a little too open to me. I feel it would benefit from either one more horizontal bar or two more vertical bars. Great MOC overall, I'll look forward to the interior pics. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 (edited) This is again a totally awesome MOC, TheBrickster! I really it! It looks very realistic and includes a lot of nice details! The only thing I miss is one or two horses, a cactus and a bandito. The most I like the Spanish styled window and the area where the minifig with the cup sits. I'm looking forward to see pics of the interior! Very, very well done! Btw: Are Rosa, her boyfriend and the young Mexican minifigs from the Orient Expedition theme? BlueBard Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Really nice job, The Brickster, love your mexican style for sets Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Nice mexican building again. Good work on the window, and also the two cups attached to the roof are a nice touch. Another thing I like is the croissant I don't know if they had croissants in mexico but for me they are welcome in every MOC One suggestion: Maybe you could try to make the roof with dark red (though I don't know if there are enough bricks to make it). Good job anyway Quote
Big Cam Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Great work as usual. I really like the fig in the little fountain area, where is that torso from? You dhould really send all your different lines to LEGO offering to sell them. You've made so many different themes and enough sets to make that line. Great work! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Thnaks for the positive feedback guys. Did you build an interior for it? I've actually got a partial interior, but still working it. This one feels like it could have been taken from a Zorro movie Zorro would make a great licenced theme, wouldn't it? That window design is quite nice too, though it does look a little too open to me. I feel it would benefit from either one more horizontal bar or two more vertical bars. I see what you mean. These bars gave me a lot of trouble. I tried a number of variations and rebuilds before coming up with what you see. The only thing I miss is one or two horses, a cactus and a bandito. I ran out of space for a horse, but Rosa's boyfriend is a bandito. Cactus, maybe. Btw: Are Rosa, her boyfriend and the young Mexican minifigs from the Orient Expedition theme? Yes - great torsos, aren't they? love your mexican style for sets Thanks BB. One suggestion: Maybe you could try to make the roof with dark red I don't have dark red, but a nice thought. I originally had a very different roof design with every other vertical section off-set to create a Spanish-tile look. I ended up returning to the old classic-style roof. I really like the fig in the little fountain area, where is that torso from? Thanks - Ninja. Marty Robbins singing El Paso On a side-note, I just found out that Playmobil may be looking at an Old Mexico theme (El Paso) for their 2011 line-up. Strangely, I just read about it yesterday. If they do "Old Mexico", I'd be very interested in seeing what they come up with. Quote
lgorlando Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I'm really liking these Western MOCs. I'm a big fan of the Western Theme but I don't like getting my hopes high that the line will return. This cantina is very authentic, I particularly like the bars on the windows and the festive decorations you made with cherries Quote
CommanderFox Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Another excellent addition to your theme Brickster! I really like the design of the house and can't wait to see an interrior! I like the figs, very well done with them! Can't wait to see the next addition! CommanderFox Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I missed this MOC the last couple of days. It is a really nice larger set for your theme. It turned out wonderful. I love it. I can't wait till it is all done. Keep it up. Quote
Batbrick Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Marvellous creation here TheBrickster, as always you impress. And also always it's the little details that really get me, the berries hanging overhead, the cups below the sign, the flag, scorpion on the gate and man drinking at the front with a croissant all add up to make the cantina even better. Great use of minfigs too, a seamless blend of old and new! Batbrick Away! Quote
Apache Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Nice work Brickster, this is my favorite of your new mocs. A dusty little Cantina. Excellent job. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Very nice TheBrickster! I can smell the taquila already. You've picked nice colours again, and the custom decal is awesome. The cherries add a lot to the mexican feeling. Very good job. Quote
