This next Old Mexico creation drifts away from the Outlaws/Banditos and residential buildings incorporating new Pirates as the Mexican Army. This MOC was a bit difficult to photograph well due to the height, and the picture was taken late last night. After photo-editing, I didn't want to re-take again starting from scratch. So I present Soldiers Outpost:

This is my least favorite so far. As was said before: the red is really... red, but it could be the picture. Although I like the concept of the set (especially the stables is a nice idea), I don't really like the jail (?) there where I'd expect an entry to the tower. Moreover those lion's heads seem out of proportion at their current location. But I like how your newest theme is progressing. Keep up the good work!

The bright red roof is definately the result of a strong night-time flash. As I said above, I didn't want to retake the image and have to edit again. The color is standard red like the roof used for Rosa's Cantina.

The lions were an after-thought addition, and I don't really like the way they protrude so far as well - so I agree with you on this one Rick. However, the tower is not meant to be a prison or jail, but rather I just used the bars for an entry gate (which I actually like).

This is actually one of my favorites from the Old Mexico collection so far -maybe the picture doesn't do it justice.

Very nice work TheBrickster!

Although that all your creations are superb, I must say that this one is as close as it can get to an actual official set.

Clear design, not too overloaded, the piece count, the number of minifigs, really somebody could fall for the set being an official one!

Well done!

Another good creation. I think there is nothing wrong with this MOC

The only point is that these minifigs don't look very mexican or suited for this 'mexican series'.

For the rest I think you are doing a good job on your mexico-creations, you have made quite a bunch already :pirate:

My favorites so far are the Mission and Cantina. And don't get me wrong: I like the relative simplicity of the tower and stables. I think loosing the lion's heads and adding a few simple 1-wide torches next to the entrance would look just fine.

Maybe it's an idea to do a 1980's/1990's style catalog page as a finale to the series: a scene displaying some 'action' scenes using all the sets and the individual sets framed and superimposed on the picture.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I don't know. Although I was a little hesitant to use them, take a look at the soldiers as pictured from the last Alamo movie:

Nice creation although I am not too fond of using pirate figs (soldiers) in western MOCs. If the soldiers were to be Mexicans*), I think it would be best to give them flesh hands or white hands and the flesh sun tanned faces that are used in Indiana Jones sets such as the Ambush in Cairo set (thug) and the Venice Canal Chase set (Kazim and the other fellow).

*) like in the Zorro series that used to be on TV long ago...

I think this belongs better in the Pirate Forum, so I'm moving it there!

 Nah, I like the use of the imperials as a later army, which fits the uniforms better after all.

A clean, simple design, with good attention paid to colour balance between tan, red and brown.

The 3x3x1 slopes are something I really should buy at some point, probably in black. I recall Deino's quest for them in old dark grey...

I always admire your photo editing, although in this case I can tell the flag is fake

Thanks SlyOwl, but actually the flag is real. I just enhanced the color a bit (and removed some lettering on the white). You can see it here as well. I've used this custom flag in a few past creations.

Hello!

You're quite on a roll! :classic: I guess you could have made a complete advent calendar with all your fabulous mocs. :classic: Personally I like the horse shed. It's a detail we rarely see in creations. Horse are present often by usually we see any home for them. :classic:

Cheers,

That's again an amazing MOC, TheBrickster! :oh:

I really  it!

It looks very realistic and includes everything a soldiers outpost has to include:

-watchtower

-priso

-horses, minifigs and accessory

-and even a horse shed

The architecture is great, too.

Very, very well done!

Wonderful TheBrickster, easily my faovurite of your Mexican creations so far! The lion heads still have me envious, and the addition of the various jail elements such as the door and barred rail really sell the whole thing. The stables are great too, good use of those sloped pieces, the shot makes them look like one piece on either side strangely. And as usual the little things are what make me love it, like the positioning of the characters, crate of gear and stack of hay.

Another great design from you 'The Brickster'. :sweet:

You have done yourself proud again, love the use of red and tan  - very simple design that is a bit of everything in an outpost.

A lookout, a jail and even a stable for the horses - excellent !!! :sweet:
