WesternOutlaw Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Last week I attempted to build a large tower and Market Place for my Mexican Village. While I did complete the tower, it seemed way too large for the existing village (compared to other structures), and seemed to take on an almost Middle Eastern-look. I ended up scapping the tower today to build my latest addition to the village. I now have very few arches left, as well as windows, as well as white and tan bricks, and brown plates (using black for this creation). I was almost ready to take down the entire village today, but thought I would create this last building. After a recent visit to Santa Barbara, California, I was inspired to go back to the Spanish style architecture to create this final creation, Senor' Palomar's Hacienda, which I am now pleased with: Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 (edited) I just love this one 'The Brickster', the trim on the upper floor is beautiful and the little fountain beside the building is cool. And he looks like one tough land owner ! It's sad to read the words 'final', but I can't wait to see your next series of MOC's. Edited January 1, 2010 by lightningtiger Quote
Rick Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Really nice one to finish of the series The Brickster. The decorated arches from the adventurers line work really well here, it's really the eye catcher of the MOC. Brown plates indeed would have looked better, but black doesn't look too bad here. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 It's sad to read the words 'final', but I can't wait to see your next series of MOC's. Thanks LT. I'm just not sure what my next theme will be yet. I would like to make a Western Train. The decorated arches from the adventurers line work really well here, it's really the eye catcher of the MOC. Thanks Rick. I tried using the traditional Wild West railing, later changing the three pieces to the two decorated arches. I think they capture a Spanish tile-like look. Quote
Legostein Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Hello! It's clearly visible that Senor Palomar is one of the richer Mexican citizens, as he lives in an impressive home. Those coloured arches look great and also the 1x2 triple slopes directly under the roof eaves look perfect here. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
Hinckley Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Bumpity-boo! Your classic style reminds me of Alex54's awesome town buildings. This could easily be a sub-them of Classic LEGO Wild West. The combination of the awning, railings and windows give the MOC such a unique feel. Very clever and simple ways to give something a different and complex look. I love roof timbers hanging over the edge of the outside walls. I wish the fountain didn't have a wood base and the clock didn't look so modern. Maybe a cow skull above the door instead. Either way, beautiful work! I really like everything you've been building lately! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 Those coloured arches look great and also the 1x2 triple slopes directly under the roof eaves look perfect here. Thanks LS. I like the printed arches too. Your classic style reminds me of Alex54's awesome town buildings. This could easily be a sub-them of Classic LEGO Wild West. Thanks a lot Hinck - coming from you, that's a very nice compliment. I could have made a custom clock decal, but didn't even hesitate to use the LEGO part. I see what you mean though, now that you mention it. The fountain was an afterthought to add a little decoration. I ended up using a water basin instead and placed the fountain in front of the church. I'm not sure why, but this building is my personal favorite of the collection -perhaps it's the colors. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 That's again a totally awesome MOC, TheBrickster! I really it! It looks very realistic and the architecture is great and so do the colors! I even like the arches from the Orient Expedition theme - they fit very well. The only thing I miss are some more minifigs (perhaps the whole family of Senor Palomar?!), some horses and some accessory. Otherwise it's great! Very, very well done! Thanks LT. I'm just not sure what my next theme will be yet. I would like to make a Western Train. That would be a great idea! Perhaps even with some train structures included? And what about a cableway? (I plan to build one myself, too, but at the moment I have got too much to do for university.) Klaus-Dieter Quote
