Scorpio Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) I hope the color combination gives it away even without stickers. First off, this is a work in progress but I figured I have completed enough to show a few pictures and get some comments, advice, criticism. Let me know what you think and I'll post more pics of my progress when I achieve any. Stickers and a food mart are coming soon. EDIT: Updated pictures start at Post 10. lightningtiger Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Take it from me doing servos and trying to make them look realistic is hard, or be that a hard sell. You have done an AWESOME job so far, nice driveway cover and pumps are not bad, could do with some hoses, plus driveway accessories too. Can't wait to see the food mart and stickering ! Great work so far 'DHCP1121' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
The Player Nº1 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Good job, but i didn't like the studs, but it's ok! I'm a conformist!. Greetings Quote
Scorpio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 could do with some hoses, plus driveway accessories too. Yeah, they are on the way. I am waiting on a few Bricklink orders. Quote
prateek Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Nice Shell-resembling station! I really like the pumps, and that modified City Car is cool too Quote
Scorpio Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 I really like the pumps, and that modified City Car is cool too I would like to take credit for the car but that came as part of the 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe set Quote
Scorpio Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Here are some teaser pics from my build this weekend. I am about 98% done but am waiting on a crucial Bricklink order which should come on Tuesday so I can finish this off. This is a sneak peak at the inside of my food mart. This is what my new pumps look like with stickers. The black part of the sticker, where there is a picture of a pump handle, is where the real Lego pump handle will be going. Behind the sticker is a headlight brick which will house the handle when it is not being used. The pump handles and a few accessories are what I am waiting on. Stay tuned. prateek Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I would like to take credit for the car but that came as part of the 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe set Oh, okay. The two cars look really similar. BTW, awesome decals! Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Starting to look good 'DHCP1121' and love those stickers.......makes me think who else uses stickers in such detail ? Interior of the shop is starting to look very nice ! Keep going and I'm a conformist! 'DHCP1121' I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Scorpio Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) Here is my finished product. This is my first time trying to photograph my Lego MOC. My setup is in a dark basement so natural light is pretty much out of the picture so any pointers and tips about how to light, set a background, etc please let me know. Thanks. The sign, driveway cover and pumps are all connected to the base via Technic. The food mart is on a baseplate and just slides up to the front sidewalk which is attached to the base. I hope you enjoy. As always comments, questions, criticism welcome. Here is the link to my Brickshelf folder when it is public Shell Gas Station Edited March 17, 2010 by DHCP1121 Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Take it from a fellow town constructor...........AWESOME - best tiled servo in a long time ! Although I will say the giant sign by the driveway might be a little on the large size. But it's the shop.........best one I have ever seen - not just as a Shell, but Octan and Esso too ! I'm a conformist! 'DHCP1121' - thanks for reseting the bar - giving me something to aim at with my roadhouse when I start it. Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 WOW! That shop looks just like the one by my house. I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't a real picture! I like the tiled effect on the underside of the canopy. Since you are so detail oriented, I will ask about the underground tank hatches. Were you planning to add any, or just leave them out at this point? See, I like everything you did, and I'm actually trying to think of more stuff for you to add. I'm sorry, this just looks great man! Very nice! Quote
jonwil Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Nice gas station. As for the sign, I dont think its too big, especially if this was a gas station located near a motorway, freeway, highway or other major road (many of those have really big signage so they are visible from a far off distance giving people time to switch into the exit lane for the gas station) Quote
Scorpio Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 Since you are so detail oriented, I will ask about the underground tank hatches. Were you planning to add any, or just leave them out at this point? Actually I was thinking about it, that and adding an ice machine on the outside of the shop. Gas stations always have that. I will probably add little things here and there once I add it as part of my city layout. Quote
ACCURATEin Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Awesome Shell station! You paid a lot of attention to detail and the stickers really make this MOC come to life. Quote

A very realistic look gas station never the less. Quote
prateek Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Great job! Those stickers turned out really nicely Quote
ImLost Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 What an incredible MOC, DHCP1121! Just realistic beyond belief. That shop is incredible! In fact, those tranparant green cones are giving me a strong urge to go buy some Sprite or Mountain Dew. Wow, I'm getting real thirsty. Great work! Quote

In regards to: I would like to see the m\large color areas made from bricks with the typography as stickers. For example, you could do the left curved corner from red and the tiles and right corner from yellow. While it would look less realistic, it would look more like a Lego MOC. Its your call but regardless, it looks great. Quote

Thanks for the advice but sadly I like my creations to look as real as possible while still being make of bricks. I used a number of transparent stickers on other parts of the model but I could not come up with a good way to make the gas pumps look real in just brick so I took the easy way out with stickers. drevim Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Glad you provide the link to this in the Service station poll, I completely missed this when it was originally posted. Your attention to detail throughout is amazing. I was impressed with the single shot you posted in the poll, but after seeing the whole design...WOW!!! Like LT said, the interior is so detailed, and the sticker work had to be meticulous. Quote
