WesternOutlaw Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 How about the Farm theme? (insert round of applause here) Farm - LEGO Farm. For the first time in LEGO history, Town fans have been given (not free or cheap), a complete minifig-scale farm with animals. Isn't that great! - Black and white spotted cows (included in no other set or theme) - Pigs (how long have we wanted cute little pink pigs) - and the things that we can do with them - Farmer John (aka Mr. Green Jeans (okay - many of you won't remember him)) - Large tractors (one blue, one red, and one lime green) - Green Acres here we come! - A working grain silo (although LEGO farm has only yielded a modest crop of round 1x1s this past year) - A huge (bigger than farm sized) harvester (damn that's big!) - Lots of extras for turning your tabletown into country comfort These are just some of the amazing elements and components contained within the Farm theme. BUT (there's always a BUT), have we seen the last of the Farm sets (OR) are we just getting started? Have you wondered what the future of Farm might hold? Will LEGO continue the Farm theme in 2011 with sets like: - A chicken coop (with new molded rooster) - Corral or stable - Pony farm - Farm house - Rabbit cages These are just some of the many possibilities for expanding the LEGO Farm theme. So, I ask: What are your thoughts on the Future of Farm? Mr. Elijah Timms Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Good topic. How bout a good ol' Texas longhorn cattle ranch-- lots of cowboys on horses, and lassos, and even a big ol' sheepdog to keep all the cattle in line. And of course, what cattle ranch would be complete without a couple of dastardly cattle rustlers!!! Either that or some real molds of the plants themselves... think of how much we could do with a great cornstalk piece (or a box of them, for that matter). Corn fields, corn mazes, etc. It's funny-- there is absolutely nothing FARM or FARMER about me, but I find myself really interested in the farm line and am not ready to see it end. Quote

I'd love to see a modern Cattle or "Dude Ranch". Great opportunity for LEGO to tie in the Wild West theme. Quote
Alywin Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) The Farm series are just great addition to City theme! While I hope it would last as long as other long-life sub-theme, it sounds like TLC is not so creative so far (we keep having sets being/ with tractors although they are only a few Farm sets...) that I am afraid the Farm subtheme may end pretty soon, though I do think there will be another return in, maybe 5 to 10 years later... If the Farm subtheme can survive, taking into account of TLC trying to make not too complicated sets for price and ease for children reasons, I guess the following could be possible: 1. a stable and/ with racing ground (like the good old town sets) 2. a green house of simplified scale 3. a relatively small farming field (it could be just 16 x 16 with flowers / grass, etc and related equipments) 4. a farm house of decent size 5. a small farm aircarft with equipment to spray pesticide... (This is more remote, but should be a manageably small set) 6. irrigation/ grass cutting/ other farming equipment with a farmer (somewhat like an impulse set) I don't bet on having another new mold for farm animals though. The thought of a little bi-wing pesticide airplane is an excellent idea. I like the thought of a greenhouse with various plants and flowers as well. And to expand on an irrigation impulse set, a larger scene with some crops and workers would be very nice. Oh, and we need the return of the pitchfork. Great ideas! Quote
Alywin Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Oh, and we need the return of the pitchfork. With no doubt! I used to have one when I was a kid and bought the castle set 6040... Give me back the pitchfork for my City farmers!!!! Quote
paul_delahaye Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Small quad bike with trailer, sheep dog, and half a dozen sheep, with a couple of fences :-) Quote
gunm Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 They have harvesters and tractors--they need a self-propelled plow! But it seems like most if not all the current farm sets are relegated to being store exclusives (TRU, S@H), so maybe this isn't going to last too long? Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Lego seem to have miss quite a few farm like things, like for say.......a farm house for the farmer and his wife to live, how about a country general store, a stock yard to buy cows and pigs at, oh yeah what about the sheep.....where's the sheeeeep baa-baa ! How about a mobile tractor/havester repair truck (saw that on a NatGeo program on John Deer havesters), since there was a grain silo what about a machinery to fill said soil eh ? Some train rolling stock, grain hoppers, flat bed with water pumps, fencing material, tractors and tractor parts oh yeah drums of oil and farming chemicals. Yeah, a farmers merchant to buy farming stuff, you could lots of big boys stuff there. All of the above I have writen would be great on a train layout too ! Whew, that's what I just thought of right now in the last 5 minutes. I'm a conformist! .......keep on farming ! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) That's a great and very interesting topic, TheBrickster! I bet - and of course hope - that TLG will continue the Farm theme in the next years, too. Of course there won't be as many sets in one year like in 2009 - but that doesn't matter and is even good so since we want to get some new or "new" themes, too, don't we?! But I think that Farm got one of TLG's all-time selling themes since kids surely like it as much as construction, fire or police. So one medium sized set and one Impulse set or small set (like this year) is the best and supposably even most realistic possibility. And when you look e. g. through our forum you will see that many of us City fans are really in the new Farm theme. Plus I think that if last year's Farm sets would have sold very badly, TLG wouldn't have given us the Piglets Enclosure and won't give us the Farmer Impulse. All in all: As long as not a new City subtheme which contains many animals (such as e. g. a zoo or a circus theme (but only as a whole theme and not only one (exclusive) set) will be released, I bet and hope we'll see some Farm sets every year. As for which sets I'd like to see: -tractor with plow -potatoe/vegetable harvester -carport with tractor, cylinder mower, hay bale compactor and manure-barrel -field with vegetables/plants and scarecrow -greenhouse and vegetable patch -farm house with decent in- and exterior -chicken barn -sheep on grazing land -milk truck with milking machine and cow -horse barn -wood cutter and transporter -farm shop -quadbike with trailer (I marked the for me most important.) Klaus-Dieter Edit: 'Forgot the milk truck. Edited March 29, 2010 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 We need a medium dairy set, or just more sets with cows. They are amazing! I still don't know what I want- a molded birds or brickbuild... But I agree we need a chicken coop as one of smalest sets in series. Something like small building (max 20 bricks), a girl, eggs (New molds or white studs?) and some accesories like basket and chicken fooder. When I first saw the farms sets- I fell in love. Now after having pigs I think Lego can't stop on this. This theme have too much to offer. Quote
prateek Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) A chicken coop would be the best, and maybe a stable too Or a slaughterhouse Edited March 23, 2010 by prateek Quote
benny Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) I agree to you, the Farm series will be the end soon. However, i also like the green house and farming field. The aircarft with equipment is a also the lovely set of lego co.! Edited March 23, 2010 by benny Quote
jonwil Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Me, I hope they dont end the line before they make some sheep. Then I can LUGBULK order some and build some MOCs of my uncles sheep station :) Quote
sok117 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 a scarecrow and maybe a farmhouse would be cool. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Do you guys think we'll see some of these things or is LEGO about through with the Farm theme? Quote
CMP Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I think it would be very easy to make a chicken coop because brick-built ones already exist. Quote
Rick Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Do you guys think we'll see some of these things or is LEGO about through with the Farm theme? That isn't really clear with only two waves (well one 'wave' with only a single set). It's possible that the little pig farm set is the cherry on the finished cake. It may also be that they continue Farm as a small niche in City for a few years. In the latter case we should see a new bunch of sets in 2011. There's a lot of potential to the theme if you ask me, so I'd like to see some more waves. There are some excellent ideas in this thread already. Quote
WhiteFang Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I will love to see, just a few more sets added into Farm, by opening up new possibilities of livestock or crops in here. Maybe some sheep will be great, but seriously I don't think we can see more of new Farm sets, since sub themes don't last that long, and it was actually released over the course of 2 years, but I really hope to see them expanding a little bit more into this new area. By the way, this has been blogged. Quote
flat_four Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Bought and built the pig farmer set today. This was my first farm set and am very impressed with the set. I bought it mainly for the pigs but im the tractor and trailer are superb. I especially like the lime green of the tractor. Im now definately tempted to buy a few more farm sets..... But theres always so much to want out there! As for new sets, im not to sure... I think theres definately enough tractors in the range now.... A Land rover/ 4wd perhaps would have been nice instead of a tractor in the pig set. But im more than happy with the tractor. plus Small quad bike with trailer, sheep dog, and half a dozen sheep, with a couple of fences :-) This would be spot on. Would definately buy a few of these Quote

A Land rover/ 4wd perhaps would have been nice instead of a tractor in the pig set. But im more than happy with the tractor. Definitely! LEGO went "hog wild" with the tractors in the theme. You'd think they had some partnership w/ John Deere. Some different vehicles would be nice. Quote
jonwil Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 LEGO used so many tractors since kids associate tractors with farming. 4x4s and pickup trucks, not so much. Quote
marvinblue Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Small quad bike with trailer, sheep dog, and half a dozen sheep, with a couple of fences :-) I second this idea. This sounds great!! Quote
Athos Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I imagine farm is probably done. It seems to have been handled like a one-note short-lived theme: numerous sets at the beginning and then tapering off with just a few second year themes. If it were to continue, I would like to see sheep, a farm house, a proper barn, and some kind of fields for the tractor to work in. I've also always thought an orchard would be a nice set/MOC... I'm also surprised they didn't do a crop-duster, give Lego's penchant for biplanes, though maybe its not eco-friendly enough for Lego? Steve Quote
