Posted April 15, 201014 yr So, ever since I caved in and downloaded LDD at a friend's urging a couple of weeks ago, I've been busy building these 'Mechs - giant killer robots are awesome, after all, and BattleTech is pretty much the granddaddy of the Western-style walking tanks that I prefer. Anyway, I thought it was about time to take a break from building and actually post the damn things on the 'Net. I built most models about midway between microscale and minifig-scale (and they are roughly in scale with each other), aiming for a good balance between detailing and articulation. And the uniform red-and-black color scheme is mostly a result of LDD's admittedly limited color palette, as any user can probably attest; not that it looks particularly bad, though. Rambling over, here's the gallery (.LXF files available in one of the subfolders, in case anyone wants to tinker with them in LDD): Big bunch of Lego 'Mechs The folder is not yet public as of posting this, and will likely go down again from time to time as I add new 'Mechs, so I'm also going to direct-link the current selection: Light 'Mechs: Solitaire - 25 tons Anubis - 30 tons Cougar - 35 tons Raven -35 tons Wolfhound - 35 tons Medium 'Mechs: Hellhound - 50 tons Uziel - 50 tons Bushwacker - 55 tons Ryoken - 55 tons Some custom designs based on the aforementioned friend's microscale models; a line of light Inner Sphere BattleMechs: Pluto - 20 tons Pluto II - 25 tons Pluto III - 35 tons And a pair of microscale models as a little extra: Nova Cat - 70 tons; the very first model I built in LDD Shrike - 95 tons; a request by the aforementioned friend. Enjoy!
April 15, 201014 yr Nice to know theres another mechwarrior fan here . The bush wacker is my favorite out of all of them because the scaling of everything on it is pretty acurate , the ryoken is also great Legs on the uziel are too thing I think but the torso looks decent. Make a shadow cat and I'll be your fan. Edited April 15, 201014 yr by Black Rabbit
April 15, 201014 yr Nice designs 'SNobleJr' - are you planning on building these in the real world - hope you are because they look AWESOME. I have a good friend who is a Battletech/Transformers/Mechwarrior plus Lego maniac, I'll see what he will say about your designs, I feel he will approve. I'm a conformist! !
April 17, 201014 yr Author Thanks for the comments! Nice to know theres another mechwarrior fan here .The bush wacker is my favorite out of all of them because the scaling of everything on it is pretty acurate , the ryoken is also great Legs on the uziel are too thing I think but the torso looks decent. Make a shadow cat and I'll be your fan. The Bushwacker is my all-time favourite 'Mech - of course I put extra effort into that one. :D And yeah, the Uziel's legs aren't quite accurate, I guess. Bit of a problem there; one stud width is a bit too thin, but two studs are way too thick. Might try some SNOT building to thicken them just a little... About the Shadow Cat: I actually offered a limited number of requests for medium 'Mechs on the MekTek forums before I move on to heavies... you might get lucky if someone requests it there, too, but heck, I might just squeeze it in anyway. I like that 'Mech too, after all! Nice designs 'SNobleJr' - are you planning on building these in the real world - hope you are because they look AWESOME.I have a good friend who is a Battletech/Transformers/Mechwarrior plus Lego maniac, I'll see what he will say about your designs, I feel he will approve. I'm a conformist! ! Actually, the Wolfhound was built IRL first, and only replicated in LDD recently (with slight modifications), so yes, one already exists physically. I might build some other light 'Mechs with real bricks, too, although my supplies are relatively limited; I don't have any 1x1 slopes, for example, so most of them would need fairly extensive modifications. And a GALLERY UPDATE: the Hunchback (50 tons) is now up!
April 17, 201014 yr I wouldn't say the hunchback is my favorite mech design but your lego version is pretty acurate to the real thing. It must be a little bit easier to make these on LDD because you could have the program and the picture of the mech open at the same time. That and the fact that you don't have to search for one tiny brick in a bin of thousands

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people here shared my love-hate relationship with parts bins - the feel of working with real bricks is, of course, inimitable, but sometimes I question if it's worth the frustration of rummaging around for hours, looking for that last damn piece. XD (I actually have a very appropriate demotivator somewhere, but it's slightly rather NSFW, so I don't think I can post it...) (EDIT: Right, I've censored it. Should be safe now: Demotivator) Edited April 17, 201014 yr by SNobleJr
April 21, 201014 yr Author GALLERY UPDATE Sorry for the double post; the Black Hawk (50 tons) and its Inner Sphere copy, the Black Hawk-KU (60 tons) are now up, and every previous model has received minor to moderate tweaks using LDD's Lego Universe mode. Enjoy!
April 21, 201014 yr I show my friend the LDD images - he gave your light and medium mechs the ! Likewise I feel your designs are great but for in real brick would be AWESOME ! I'm a conformist! 'SNobleJr' really I'm a conformist! !

'SNobleJr' really I'm a conformist! ! Thanks for the comment; I'm glad you and your friend like the models! I probably couldn't build more than a handful of the light 'Mechs due to parts shortage, but the .LXF files are available in the gallery; by all means grab those and use them to build the models IRL, if you feel like it! :D Also, GALLERY UPDATE: the Shadow Cat (45 tons) is now up! I hope it's to your liking, Black Rabbit. :P Edited April 25, 201014 yr by SNobleJr
April 25, 201014 yr Author GALLERY UPDATE: a 45-ton MekTek custom, the Assassin II is now up! This wraps up the medium 'Mechs for now; I'm moving on to heavies, starting with... well, I'm not telling outright, but it's honestly not hard to guess to begin with. :P
May 8, 201014 yr Author GALLERY UPDATE Once again, sorry for the double post -and the thread necromancy-, but I'm back from a hiatus with three new 'Mechs, and I figured this was the lesser of two evils, as opposed to starting a whole new thread for the same series of MOCs. The new 'Mechs are the 60-ton Vulture, its infamous C variant, which replaces the primary configuration's combination of lasers and missiles with a pair of humongous Gauss rifles, and, last but not least, the iconic mascot 'Mech of the BattleTech franchise, the 75-ton Mad Cat. I admit I sort of cheated here - the three 'Mechs quite noticeably share the exact same leg assembly, and the Vulture Prime and Vulture C, being variants of the same base chassis, obviously have a very similar torso as well.
May 8, 201014 yr You have been busy again with LDD eh ? Now I have heard of this one, my friend has ACTUALLY built it - I send him the image and get his opinion on your 'Mad Cat' - which happens to be his favorite ! Great work again and I'm a conformist! 'SNobleJr' I'm a conformist! !
May 10, 201014 yr I don't care if you cheated on the legs , they still look good. The madcat is my favorite battletech mech and my favorite out of the ones you have so far , but i still hate it in game The cockpit on the madcat ,has that piece actually come in black before? Edited May 10, 201014 yr by Black Rabbit
May 12, 201014 yr Author The cockpit on the madcat ,has that piece actually come in black before? According to Bricklink, no; it's only available in brown, reddish brown, trans-black, trans-clear and trans-orange. Universe mode in LDD is helpful for making consistent color schemes, although admittedly, it can cause problems when trying to build a model IRL. Also, GALLERY UPDATE I got into a real building frenzy yesterday - managed to churn out four 'Mechs in a single afternoon (mind you, two are once again variants of the same base chassis, like the Vulture and Vulture C the last time): Black Heart (70 tons, MekTek custom) Catapult (65 tons) Catapult K2 ["Katapult"] (65 tons) Marauder (75 tons) That's the heavy category done for now. Now on to the really big stuff, the assault 'Mechs.
