brickfoot Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I wasn't working today so I tried making a micro model of the death star. This is the first micro model I've built so I think it looks pretty good. Quote
Beetlejuice Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Nice micro DS thouh I think the beam is alittle too big. Quote
Captain Becker Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Hahaa, very lovley little Death star indeed, its loking so cute. Godd work Captain becker Quote
prateek Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Very nice! It's a shame you don't have the internal parts in dk. grey. Quote
brickfoot Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 Nice micro DS thouh I think the beam is alittle too big. I think the beam is to long too but I could not think of a way to make it shorter. Hahaa, very lovley little Death star indeed, its loking so cute. Godd work Captain becker Thanks Quote
sok117 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 How on earth did you fit in all those cylindrical cones? I would make them all grey if you could, It would look much better then the black. Quote

Big Cam Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I agree with the crowd, beams a bit big, but you captured the idea well. Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Not bad design 'brickfoot' ! Have you tried using one of these in trans-green....... Anyway, great designing 'brickfoot' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Nice cute little micro DS, good job on this brickfoot. I think you captured the design pretty well for micro-scale. Quote
prateek Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Not bad design 'brickfoot' ! Have you tried using one of these in trans-green....... And then attach a blown up Alderaan to the end Quote

I think those aren't cylindrical cones, those are 2 x 2 black discs bunched together to form a sphere. The question is, how did you make them to form the sphere, brickfoot? Quote
The Legonater Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 That is a cute little thing- Micro's definatly the right word. Good job! And then attach a blown up Alderaan to the end Quote
Rinconstar Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 (edited) I'd put grey studs or flat squares over the black spaces. Edited July 30, 2010 by Rinconstar Quote

brickfoot Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 (edited) The question is, how did you make them to form the sphere, brickfoot? I'll give you a clue you need a Black Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Studs on 4 Sides. Edited July 30, 2010 by brickfoot Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I'll give you a clue you need a Black Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Studs on 4 Sides. Yeah but I still can't figure out how the discs were angled to form a sphere. Quote
brickfoot Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Yeah but I still can't figure out how the discs were angled to form a sphere. It's hard to explain but all the black discs are not connected to anything they, are held in place by all the grey discs which are connected to the Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Studs on 4 Sides. Quote

Now I see, it just confirms my initial hunch that the black discs cannot be angled in such a small space through legal connections. Anyway, I'm still impressed on how you did that brickfoot. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 (edited) I'll give you a clue you need a Black Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Studs on 4 Sides. You've got a Technic pin with stud stuck in the bottom, 1x1 studs on the other 5 sides, 6 2x2 parabolic plates on the resulting six sides, with the Technic pin pulled out a little bit to make the bottom-most parabola the same distance from the center as the other 5. Then the outer parabolas are held in by friction between their stud receptacles ad the edges of the inner parabolas. Am I right? EDIT: Is the stand stuck into the bottom-most parabola, or is there no parabola-and-Technic-pin assembly at all? Edited July 30, 2010 by Brickdoctor Quote
Darth Yogi Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 that is really cool. Did you not like it all grey or not have enough parts? great job Quote

This is what the inside should look like Each black parabola is put under the grey parabolas like this Then put 4 black parabolas around the top like this Then put the top grey parabola on like this Then put the 4 black parabolas on the bottom like this Then put the stand and laser on like this And your done. Warning while putting together it may fall apart but once completed it is very sturdy. Edited July 30, 2010 by brickfoot Quote
yellost Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Now that's really clever. And if it were all black, it would make an excellent underwater mine as well... Nice work Quote
Praiter Yed Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I love this micro-Death Star. I've been trying to figure out how you did this since yesterday - now you told us I don't know if I'm pleased to know or disappointed that I couldn't work it out I think the size of the super laser is fine. Will you be posting a final version when your Bricklink order arrives? Quote
