Ricecracker Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Ralph's amazing Scania Recovery Truck, which many of you have seen, is actually part of something bigger. This months LUGNuts challenge was to build one vehicle in multiple scales. Neither Ralph nor myself had time to build two vehicles individually, so we worked together. Ralph built the large, Model Team scale truck, and I built the smaller, Minifig scale truck. The truck can tow many of my current vehicles, and has functioning outriggers and a boom that can be raised and lowered. There is also a winch used to recover vehicles. You can see more of my truck on my flickr page. Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Great work there 'ricecracker' - the rear outriggers are AWESOME - I really like the design, mind if I copy it for future use - very clever design indeed. I feel the front end is a real rainbow of colours, a little chrome and it would look like it's being to 'Trick-My-Truck' ! Excellent designing and I'm a conformist! 'ricecracker' also keep on trucking ! Quote
Ralph_S Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 One of the things that may surprise people is that we didn't actually see each other's vehicles until Sunday. It was all done using pictures of the real truck. I enjoyed this project. I think it's really neat to see how recognisable the 8-wide is despite being so much smaller than my 14-wide model. Cheers, Ralph Quote
Hey75 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 That was cool. Can see that u r a great fan of trucks. Quote
Lasse D Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Yay! This truck strikes one of my favorite ideas: Take a Model Team truck and build it in minifig scale. (although that's technically not what you guys did). Excellent job on recreating a Scania in this scale and making it recognizable while having all the coloring going on. For people who might not notice the great detailing at first glance. Check this out: - SNOT'ing with half-plates (various brackets) on the cab behind the windscreen in order to make the stripes flow. - Upside down cheesing on the rear wheels. - Angled tiles to complete the front wheel wells. - Half-stud displacement (using rail plates) right above the yellow stripe on the cab. - Trans clear 1x2 plates to connect the front lights Excellent, most excellent. If I had seen you, I probably would've made the stripes on the cab thinner, but I don't mind all too much. Yay! Thanks. It's always nice hearing from some of my favourite builders. Recreating LEGO sets of different scales has always intrigued me, and this the closest I've come. It was quite fun. I think I'll actually do it sometime. Quote
Fires-storm Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Well done, the back is simply beautiful, and the overhead on the cabin is stunning as well, plus it would be very functional for my car recoveries after they meet my tanks (never elt me get bored with military and civilians in the same room.) Well done mate, and keep bricking Quote
Flare Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Wow, very clever. It looks just as good as the original Quote
Sam42 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) Great style and detailing in 8 wide! The front wheel arches are really good, any chance of a "how it was done" shot? Edited August 10, 2010 by Sam42 Quote
