Hi all, long time lurker, short time poster here.

I have just come out of the 'Dark Ages' and have made my first MOC in probably 10 years. Its a nightclub, Club VII, and is done in the style of GG. I had to try a modular building after I recently built GG and loved every step of that gorgeous building.

I think I have done quite well, I started last saturday, and finished it today (Well its 99% complete, just waiting on one last batch of parts from Bricklink.). I only really stopped to eat, drink, sleep and work really :P

The main style of the building is inspired from a local nightclub I used to frequent when I was younger. I love the style of the building, almost art deco melded with more traditional architecture. I like the effect I got with various different building techniques, however I'm not still sure if the top part looks too out of place. Oh well, its built now

So without further ado I present to you Club VII

I've got a new black 6 stud high door to put in, but I forgot to put it in before taking these pictures.

The all important Bar

A nice chill out pad up here

All the modular floors together. The managers office is on the top section.

The managers desk, he is playing a game when he is supposed to working, naughty!

club13.jpg

The safe for the nightclub, very secure for all the money it takes from the citizens on lego towns once they discover alcohol...

club14.jpg

The back of the building, still needs a little work up top, more white tiles are needed for the back section and part of the side. (this took up LOTS of white 2x1 tiles)

And here it is with the GG.

I hope you like it :)

I eagerly await your comments and constructive critism (I'm very critical about my building, there are a few sections I am not happy with at all, but I will not mention them here because I don't want to draw attention to them  )

Thanks for reading,

Temet Nosce

Wow! I love it, but my favourite part has to be the top section! It just looks so modern

BTW, you didn't post the pic of it with GG, like you said.

For a first MOC, that's a top quality job. I like the style, old and modern mixed, like the top was build recently.

The bar is nice as well, do they serve Stella?

What bothers me is the half sized window and lack of gutters.

Just AWESOME 'Temet Nosce' !

The bar, dj booth, dance floor and up stairs lounge area are just fantastic, the exterior looks of an old disused building with some basic reno' job done too it - very good designing here.

Keep up the good work and I'm a conformist! 'Temet Nosce' I'm a conformist! ! :sweet:

Thanks for the comments guys!

Oops, I've edited it so there is a now a pic with the GG, as you can see its a little bit taller than the GG, and probably the other official modular buildings.

@Marckeyh - I did think of adding gutters but I decided against it, I may add some to the back with a drainpipe running down the back of the building to give the back a bit of detail. And yeah, the half window bothers me to, but I didnt want to move the largest window to the right one stud, as it looked out of place, as it is now perfectly aligned with the door. And I also didnt want to lose the strip of red going down the side of the middle part. Such is the frustration of building in a 32 x 32 space :classic: Oh, and of course they serve stella

I have to say that I like it very much. The actual architecture look very good and the small hints of red really stand out. One criticism is that the bottom windows and the tan bricks covering don't look good at all. Maybe just put black bricks on the inside of the windows .

It looks good with the green grocer especially the little corner between the two buildings. :classic:

Great moc, the interior is brilliant ! The DJ booth and bar are done really well, and the safe and managers office are good small details to add.

The one criticism i would have is the tan at the front, it makes it look like a boarded up building, and a nightclub thats been shut down is no fun

Bet you cant wait for the Disco Stu minifig from the collectable series, he will fit right in ! Do you have any plans to make anymore modular buildings?

@ Squiz and Burman: Thanks for the comments, you have pretty much confirmed what I thought about the tan section. The main problem with that section is the pillars on the front wall is on jumper plates whereas the tan pieces aren't, so the tallest it can go is up to where the tan tiles are, leaving a section of black at the top. I tried it cause I really like the tan colour, but it does look a bit too boarded up, I agree. I may try it in dark grey instead, I think black would be a bit too dark and I originally had it in light grey but it just looked too plain.

It also just occurred to me that I could use jumper plates to align the tan (soon to be dark grey) pieces with the pillar pieces. Why I didn't realise that before is baffling!

Also I never even thought about the Disco Stu collectible mini-figure, now I will be on the hunt for him! As for other buildings, I have some plans for a sports/outdoors shop to go on a 16 x 32 base, but I used up most of my correct coloured pieces with this build. I may attempt to build it anyway with random colours to keep the creative side of my brain active again, and then do a mass bricklink order come payday

That's a pretty sweet club. I personally like the tan at the bottom if you can get it offset to fill that half-round window. You've absolutely nailed the "old building converted for modern usage" look.

That's pretty good for your first MOC, Temet Nosce, I actually like it - as the others have said, it's very modern-looking. The interiors are great, especially the DJ booth and the dance floor. But I have to agree the tan bricks at the bottom looks out-of-place in a rather good-looking build IMO. It's also a shame the photoshoot of this nightclub was conducted in the morning. I think it would have been better if it was depicted in a night setting, complete with lights, sounds(?), and of course the Party People! in a real nightclub atmosphere. Well, that's just wishful thinking in my part. default_laugh2.gif

I really like this one, especially the top part, which looks very nice. I also think you did a very good job on the interior. I like the red staircase, and the DJ booth looks almost just like what I had in mind the other day when I thought about making one, only maybe slightly better  But it needs people! It looks so empty...

Great job Temet Nosce. The mixture of the new and old style architecture is also quite reminiscent of some of the nightclubs I used to frequent back in the day. I like the way you've used the red and black interior scheme. You've captured the differant 'zones' of the typical nightclub really well. The extensive use of tiling gives it a modern reflective look. I also like the the way you have done the stairs and also the red lounge and stools. Will it be possible to incorporate some lighting bricks into it? That would look sweet too.

You should have fun filling it up with people. Some of the series one and two minifigs will look right at home. The DJ and the pop singer are naturals for a MOC like yours. I can also picture the surfer dude and skateboarder having a punch-up over the cheerleader! Perhaps the caveman and ninja would make good bouncers - "Hey no zombies allowed". Anyhow great job

That's great! I like all the details (spot on the name of the dance club, hidden windows, black interior, mix between the "old" and the "new" section of the building, etc.).

Very nice job!

First of all, I really like the idea here - I don't think I've seen a Lego night club before... The inside has a very stylish and new look to it with a cosy chill-out area on top :)

I think this is also why I find that the 'boarded-up' look at the front windows (I guess it's not intended to look like that?) doesn't look right, it doesn't fit to the stylish interior... I think you could even leave them as normal, open windows with drawers or so. There are some down town discos on the ground floor in the place where I live (not many people living down town anyway, it's all offices).
