metalgearsolid Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 (edited) Hi everyone, I haven't decided what to do with this white building but in response to Vader11's request here it is. I used the parts from 2 sets of Winter Toy Shops (10199)and retained the stuff I loved in 10199 – the distinctive roof and the red and white awnings. I also kept the chimney and fireplace from the 1st version (in brown) that I built. This also comes with a 3rd floor living quarters for the shop owner, and an attic storage area if and when I ever do up the interiors. Front view Back view Unstacked floors More pics and close-ups in my blog, along with pics of the previous version that had full interiors and winter landscaping. Appreciate your suggestions and comments, and hope you liked it! Oh, my new street view: Update: Forgot that this building works as a 2 storey building too. In fact, think it looks cuter as a 2 storey rather than 3. Edited August 16, 2010 by metalgearsolid Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Nice work 'metalgearsolid' the lower floors are really cool ! But I have an issue with the roof, too much overhang - quite unrealistic ! In any case it's still a great building minus that fault......I'm a conformist! ! Quote
gotoAndLego Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 The overhang gives it a Tim Burtonish feel. I think you need to emphasize that. Quote
prateek Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 I agree that the roof is a bit too far over the next building, but other than that, great job! Quote
vader11 Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Thanks for the quick respond! I agree with others that overhang is a little far off, but otherwise it is an excellent building! I have also made one but now looks like yours is better. Hope your street will even longer in the near future. Quote
Temet Nosce Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Looks great! I love how you have managed to retain the feel of the 10199 set, yet given it your own distinctive take on it. I also like how its really hard to tell its modular when its all stacked together, I have found getting the blend just right so it looks like a 'full' building (if you get my meaning?) is one of the hardest things about building modular buildings. So great job! Quote
Fires-storm Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Quite a beautiful job! I love the candy cane striping of the awnings, and the fact that this great modular is just 16x32! At least by the looks of it...Also I rather like the roof over hang, I'm not quite sure, it just strikes me as nice Quote
metalgearsolid Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 Thanks for all the comments. Seems to be rather polarized... either you like the overhang or you don't. Personally I kind of like the overhang for the unreal, toy-like feel (Tim Burtonish?). I'll play around with the roof config next time I've decided on what building it should be... Added a 2 storey pic in the 1st post cos I just remembered that after I built it, thought it actually looked better as a shorter (and cuter?) building. What do you think? As usual, more stuff in my blog but this time just the 2 storey config in black background... just for variety. Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 That is a very nice building. I like the detailing with the round 1x1 bricks and plates. Regarding the roof, I like it, but I would have made the room below two studs wider, making it hang over the side. Quote
Danpb Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I agree with the folks that mentioned the roof - just didn't seem right. The chimney in back is fantastic though. Great details on the building :D. Quote
