rgbrown Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Woohoo! Looks: Fantastic (as usual)! Performance/Playability: Fast, fun, and fabulous! Video: Frantic! (Really nicely done, it's the icing on the cake! I especially like the moving shots from the other vehicle.) Quote
DLuders Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Cool use of "vector wheels"! I went to your Flickr Photostream to see all 10 pictures. Quote
vmln8r Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Brilliant job as usual. I love the simplicity of the chassis/drivetrain. P.S. Your camera car is awesome too, the wheel setup is just inspired. I made one a while back with two pullback motors and it will definitely benefit from the twin wheel arrangement. Quote
Masked Builder Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 That's is amazing! I wish I could build like this. Quote
flyz Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 That's a very cool little tank. The wheels are awesome and the chassis is so simple. Love it! Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 The fastest, most fun tank I ever saw! P.S. add link to your .lxf file, so people can download it. Quote
the Inventor Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Great use of "vector wheels"!, mahjqa really awesome. The fastest, most fun tank I ever saw! P.S. add link to your .lxf file, so people can download it. Indeed, it looks fun, it moves great and fast. I would also like to see the .lxf file. the Inventor Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Yes, this model is fantastic !! I've hade the honour of seeing it in action and driving it myself and it's great fun. And that video might just be one of the best I've seen sofar (and I've seen many). Quote
mahjqa Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 I'm glad you all like it. :) I've got the LXF of the gearing right here: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/mahjqa/990-MetalGrudge/metalgrudge.lxf Because I suck at LDD it's not completely correct, but it's enough to get a working version out of it. grohl Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I really love those agile vehicles you and Zblj have made. My Beast looks like a piece of crap compared to them. Keep up the good work. Quote
Bricksonwheels Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I replied on this at Lowlug, but i love it Peer! Quote
roamingstop Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I replied on this at Lowlug, but i love it Peer! Now blogged on engadget.com. Seems a lot of people are impressed with this! Quote
mahjqa Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Want to build it? Here are 118 pages of instructions. Sample picture: NOTE: General knowledge of Technic is required. Unless your brick collecton is completely insane, you will have to buy parts to complete this model. Quote
DLuders Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 "So many good models to build, and not enough time to build them all...." This will be a fun Technic model to build. I like the mouse-over Parts List on the various Flickr images, to indicate the Bricklink part number. Thanks for sharing your MOC's building instructions! Quote
RohanBeckett Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Yes.. def. on my 'to build' list... thanks for the super detailed build instructions - it's stuff like this, that sets the awesome MOC builders apart from the good ones... great community spirit! I'm not too bad on parts.. just don't have any 87408 brackets, and the 57585 3-way axle connector... reckon I'd have less than $20 bricklink order to make it.. RB Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Neat little MOC! Had not seen it before. (apparently my collection is insane) Quote
DLuders Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Using Mahjqa's Lego Digital Designer (LDD) LXF Building Instructions file and LDD Manager, I created the attached PDF Parts List to make his Metal Grudge sports tank. Thanks again, Mahjqa, for all of the work it took to share your fun creation with others! MahjaMetalGrudgePartsList.pdf Quote
davidmull Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Very impressive, can someone tell me what is the idea of them wierd looking wheels as it's not for looks? Quote
mahjqa Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Very impressive, can someone tell me what is the idea of them wierd looking wheels as it's not for looks? The tiny wheels on them allow the wheel to slide sideways. When tank-steered vehicles turn, they have to overcome the sideways fricton on their tracks or wheels. Because the tiny wheels take away much of that friction, it can do powerslides and those 360-degree turns, while still going in the same direction. Oh, and they also do this: Quote
allanp Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 This is great, I love the performance and the colours and the video is also great. Quote
Blakbird Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Want to build it? Here are 118 pages of instructions. I have a couple of questions about this model after having downloaded all the images for it from Flickr. In your main pictures, you show the model using 2 IR receivers, but in the instructions you only use 1. Why the difference? I think you used 2 receivers originally to try to maximize the power to the motors. Did you decide it didn't work? If it did work, why did you change it for the instructions? I also noticed that the battery in your main images is on the opposite side from the instructions. Did you actually use 2 batteries to go with the 2 receivers originally? One other difference is that the LEDs are not included in the instructions, but they are easy to add. I'll definitely be building this one because it looks like loads of fun and is highly unusual. mahjqa Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) The two receiver deal -does- give a slight advantage in acceleration and maneuvering. However, it's not enough to justify the purchase of another receiver for people who may be new to Power Functions. Also, after a while there were some problems; the internal safety of the receiver seemed to kick in at random intervals. Never figured out how to get rid of that. Since I don't want to deal with people complaining that the model doesn't work, I changed it back to a single receiver which may lower performance a bit, but is way more reliable. Of course, if you want to go completely nuts, there's room for two battery packs in the vehicle. Edited March 9, 2011 by mahjqa Quote
