sam89 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 OK, I've finished building (about 1 hour 25 minutes). Here's my review. First, here's some general pics of the set: This thing is VERY impressive, and absolutely HUGE. It's also suprisingly durable and stays in the position I've put it on my shelf with not much problem (see pic below). Here's a pic of the middle section: The two robots plugged in look pretty cool. The Gattling guns on top can be moved by turning a piece on the bottom. The silver robot's eyes light up using the light brick. The disk shooter works pretty well, you pull back on a tab on the back and it fires one, and then the rest drop down. Here's a pic showing the robots being lowered to ground level to battle: Meca One (without legs) inside the cockpit: And here's some comparison pics to show you its size: Figs: 9/10 (6 bronze robots, Meca One and silver robot - point deducted for Meca One's missing legs) Set: 10/10 Playability: 9/10 FINAL SCORE: 9.3/10 Quote
Zane Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Wow, that is awesome. Mind definately made up now. Does the silver robot have legs? It doesn't seem to in the pictures... Quote
sam89 Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 No, he clips straight onto the top of the model. His "arms" are the gattling guns. Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Tks Sam for this cool review ;-) This model is freaking HUGE !! I thought it was big but not that big hehe !! With the Sailbarge coming up I'm not sure I'll get this huge but cool model !! Could you please post a close up pic of that shooting thingie !! Its the one on the avatr sets isn't it !! Damn you TLC and your catapults and shooting thingies >:-( Tks again Sam ;-) *yoda* Quote
sam89 Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 I might be able to post a pic later (maybe tomorrow), but that's not a promise ;-) EDIT: Actually, here are some pics of one from one of the Avatar sets: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1763219 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1763220 The one from the SV is exactly the same, except see-through instead of black. Kahgarak Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 The Meca 01 having no legs is a downside, but the rest of this mech is just amazing!Sam89,are you proud of this set? I would be! *y* Quote
Deinonychus Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Wait...Mecha 1 has no legs? I thought he was the gold pilot and not the integrated silver robot in the gun turret. 8-| Anywho, great pictures. I love how the robots on the legs drop down to ground level. That set absolutley rocks, you're a lucky man for finding it so quickly X-D Quote
natelite Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 for me, this set is not that impressive. most of the size is made from long sloping pieces and technic bars. i'm not quite sure what the robots at the legs were meant to represent. if it was suppose to be some kind of an apc, i think the robots should be inside the SV. the alternative model is also not impressive since it's not a mech vehicle but looked like a base of some sort. on the other hand the set has a lot of dark green parts which i can use to make mech armors or maybe an apc. and with 6 bronze (full) mechs and 2 mechs without legs (the silver and the gold), there's a lot you can do with them. maybe make 8 power armor robots. for the time being, this set will join gate assault in my list of optional sets (will get them only during a sale). how many decals were there? did you spend most of the time putting the stickers on or was it spent on actual building? xenologer Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Is it just more or does Striking Venom look like a Statue mostly? From what I see in the pics: it has no knee joints, they stay at 90*. the hips only rotate up and down, but cannot make any lateral motion (like reach forward to take a step) for a walking gait. how much did it cost btw? It's wide and impressive looking, but most of that is empty space between skinny legs. I'd pay at most 30$USD for this, and only buy it after first getting the new Technic Telehandler set, and all my LDD designs.... well, at least it looks like a good army builder, 6 brown Robots, a Black Robot version of the Swift(gate assult alt model) and *maybe* enough click hinges to make a darkGreen Sentry. sam89 Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 for me, this set is not that impressive. most of the size is made from long sloping pieces and technic bars. Well, the set does still have around 650 pieces, even with the large pieces. how many decals were there? did you spend most of the time putting the stickers on or was it spent on actual building? There's 21 decals in total. The stickers defintely don't seem as prominent as they do on the large mechs and didn't take up as much as the build. how much did it cost btw? It's wide and impressive looking, but most of that is empty space between skinny legs. I'd pay at most 30$USD for this, and only buy it after first getting the new Technic Telehandler set, and all my LDD designs.... It cost Quote
prateek Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 MECH 1 DOESN'T HAVE LEGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *n* I am so disappointed. :'-( Quote
optimus-convoy Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Wow. Striking Venom looks like a very imposing mech. Too bad about Mecha One's lack of legs, but this still looks like a buy to me. *y* Quote
Christian Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Good review Sam!!! The model seems to have alot of technic pieces, which is a big plus for me. For anyone interested in buying this model and the other new exo-force sets, the sets are now available on S@H Europe! Quote
Zane Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Boo-yah! SV is here by June, just as Sam predicted. Excellent!! Quote
natelite Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Oh boy! Is the bridge walker set an exclusive to the US only? Supernova is still not out in europe yet. Guess it's possible. I'll probably go check out the lego store (or TRU) during the memorial day sale (or independence day). Quote
christopher110 Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 I dislike the dark-green colour....... Unless I hv extra $$, otherwise I wouldn't buy this set........... perhaps wait till sale (if there's a sale) :-( Quote
Dino_Bot Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Wow he's huge! I would love to get one of those to challenge my Jedi Army. Quote
KimT Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Great review Sam. I've just bought this baby on sale and it's the Numero Uno exo-force set so far *wub* *wub* It has it all... " Bring it on stupid humans with silly hair. This is a war You can't win - We've got the Striking Venom" Great colour scheme, not so many stickers, several robots, great durability and playability. Though I still can't see (or figure :-| ) how to work the disc launcher... The discs are coming up the launcher in all directions when fired and as in the Hero Tank it isn't attached in a manner that allows easy firing *n* My verdict 9/10 and *y* *y* *y* KimT Quote
EXO-CHAMP Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 The trick is to hold a finger on the top of the launcher. The disc launcer on the robot mecha from the HQ is even worse. If you try to fire it, the robot comes apart. I got the SV too, but look at the sorry version I got: SIX guns were replaced by other bits. Very disappointing... >:-( Quote
dillthepill Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 The Striking Venom strikes hard! Like you said this set is huge and very impresive. This is probably the best Lego set ever. *y* *y* Nice review, too. X-D Quote
mutex Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I got the SV too, but look at the sorry version I got:SIX guns were replaced by other bits. Very disappointing... >:-( Hello, what do you mean by that exactly ? Missing pieces in the original box :-/ ? Thanks ;-) Quote
EXO-CHAMP Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 If you look at the picture I posted you will notice that 6 six guns are replaced with other bricks. The two double lasers on the main body and the two lasers under Meca One's cockpit were replaced by alternative parts. (There were also erata instructions in the box) Sometimes Lego can't keep up with the number of bricks they are supposed to produce. Instead of waiting for the correct bricks, they simply swap the bricks with others. So in fact my SV is what came out of the box, rather than what was on the box (I have an Uplink with the same problem). Quote

OMG I didn't kno that Lego did this kind of "tricks". *n* In about 20 years of lego building I never found this kind of problem and I must says that I would be terribly angry if that happens to me X-O Quote
EXO-CHAMP Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 On the up side the legs for Meca One was included (which wasn't the case with the first batch). I guess I could order the replacements at Lego (maybe at no cost) since the box doesn't contain what was on the box, but it really bugs me to go to this kind of trouble. Quote
