OrangeKNight Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 AAaaaand I just realized I forgot to post the pic with the flaps open! *headdesk* So I'll just post it now xD I also stumbled across the shading options in LDD, wish I had found them sooner xD Mike Quote
robuko Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Have you seen Peter C's RX-78? A truly exceptional microscale Gundam build. Does yours have the same joint system for shoulders and hips, do you think? Looks pretty fragile, but with amazing degrees of poseability for a micro. I am not really so familiar with Gundam wing, but I would guess that bigger feet might help with stability, and I would recommend more armour on the legs. Great work so far! Quote

I am not really so familiar with Gundam wing, but I would guess that bigger feet might help with stability, and I would recommend more armour on the legs. Great work so far! I did see back around the time he released it, and from that vid I did some reverse engineering, and honestly its just far to fragile IMO. I don't know what kind of voodoo he used, but when I built parts like he did the joints either didn't work or would fall apart if you looked at them funny, and explode if you had to gall to try and pose them. Might have been something to do with my bricks, or maybe I missed something he did, but they just wouldn't work for me. That said his is still an amazing build for sure, but not quite to my tastes function-wise. Also it shoudl be noted that his build is purely for looking like the RX-78, it wouldn't be very easy to convert his design to match other Gundam designs IMO. tkh's design was done with the assumption he'd be building many different Gundams, which is exactly what he did so it seemed more natural to use his as basis. But anyways, sorry to rattle on, back to Heavyarm's Legs; I agree larger feet might be more stable, but I think 2x3 plate migth make then too large comapred to the rest of the legs, bu tI'll prolly order the extra parts to do so anyways, just in case. As far as leg armor goes, its kinda the same situation, due to it's size/scale(I think they're only about 4-5" high or something) I did only just come up with a couple ideas I will try but even if I add flat tiles to side right below the knee joint, it ends up looking pretty fat, but I'll mess with it today and tomorrow and see. OrangeKNight Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 Alright, thanks are in order Robuko! You helped me to really take the time and look at different ways to bulk out the legs without making them Bulky, and I think I got something pretty awesome here. And of course after I go through all the trouble of getting the pics I discover a better way to do the Leg Misile Pods! xD So theres 1 extra pic showing just the Missile Pods xD All in all, I'm very happy with how its turned out so far, only thing I would want to improve at this point is how the chest opens up, I think tomorrow I'm gonan built a quick physical copy and just try different things to it, its just really rather cramped for smpace at this size! xD Keep the comments coming! Its never too late to try and help out! Mike Quote
OrangeKNight Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 Whelp, I'm pretty much done with Heavyarms, I'm just trying to figure out BrickLink so I can Actually order the Parts, but until then I have been working on Wing Gundam; Admittedly same basic build as Heavy Arms for the Legs, well except for the thruster on the back of the lower leg, but new Torso and shoulders and Arm. Features include posable wings, detachable Shield and Buster Rifle And it can Mostly Transform into Bird Mode(still working on this, much harder to work out the kinks in LDD) Comments? Questions? Mike Quote
OrangeKNight Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Right then, sorry for being so quiet lately, but I've finally got my very first BrickLink order in, and with it, I was able to build Heavyarms to be about 95% accurate! (don't mind the Beam Sword, he's just Holding on to it for Wing Gundam xD) And Speaking of Wing, heres the "Final" Version; I'm just waiting on the Design for a 3rd Gundam before I go and order Parts(also gotta refill my 'LEGO Fund' xD) Mike Quote
Abu Dun Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Those look really awesome and it's impressive how you caught all the details of the real things. My favourites would be Sandrock and Deathscythe but I imagine that the former probably is the hardest one to build in mini-scale, thanks to his main weapon being two heated sickles - the scythe for the latter shouldn't be a problem, although it might not be avaiable in the original trans-green colour. Are you going to do the upgraded versions of the Gundams as well once you've finished the first ones? Heavyarms would probably look really mean with his two double-miniguns It'd also be great to see the Gundams piloted by the opponents, like the Tallgis (probably definitely written wrong), Wing-Zero and Epion. OrangeKNight Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 Blah, been sidetracked by my REX Project, so I haven't done much for these guys yet, but I have managed to bulk out my collection enough that I'm not stuck just designing in LDD anymore for stuff about this scale, thought the still end up being Rainbow Warriors until I order parts xD Here is a partial build I did of Wing today; This was mainly just to see how the wings hold up, that was one of my biggest concerns to be honest. And it looks like it might be a bit awkward to pose/balance, but not too bad I hope. Also narrowing down the LDD designs for the other 3, Shenlong took some work to get his Arm right-ish, I couldn't get it all included, so to deploy his dragon arm you gotta swap out parts, but at this scale I'm not sure there IS a good way of doing it all on the model. ReaperOfDeath Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 I love Gundam, and I love your Microscale Gundams :) They're like Chibi-Gundams. I can't wait to see if you do a FULLSCALE lego Gundam :D Quote
robuko Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Wow, OrangeKNight, these look great so far. Wing is going to be awesome! I really like how you did the hips, and the legs look very good! I'm so happy I could help out a little bit, isn't the internet marvellous? Looking at these is getting me in the mood to go and put some more work in at my micro transformers project, so you have more than returned the favour. Quote
OrangeKNight Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 Actually at this point I'm pretty far along; Just still waiting on a couple orders to finish off several of them then I gotta try and compensate for my crappy camera.... Mike Quote
Vindicare Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 When you get around to making Sandrock, you could use the swords from the Pharaohs Quest mummy. Comes in gold or dark grey. They're pretty close to his swords. Quote

They're pretty close to his swords. Except they're about half the size ;p Also he's already built. See the link in my previous post. Mike Quote
OrangeKNight Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 Just added some more in-depth Pics of Shenlong to my Flickr Mike Quote
OrangeKNight Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 Did Heavyarms and Tallgeese; Mike Quote
Big Cam Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I'm not a huge Gundam fan, but I do like them. I really like your mini's, they look very accurate, the colors and shapes. Quote
kciR Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Nice models, from one of the best Series ever made! The real brick models look way better than the LDD pictures (even though the design is more or less the same). Good photography too! Quote

It's funny how even something as little as non-default can really range how something looks aswell. Also just a heads up but I've fixed up the first post, it now contains descriptions and links to all pictures. I hope to get the last 3 done on the weekend, Sandrock and Deathscythe are good to go but Wing Still needs a bit of tweaking.... Mike Quote
Khorne Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I used to love Gundam Wing when I was a kid! In fact, I loved the show that much I got all of the episodes, so I can watch it again any time I want to. I got to say, your minis are incredible. They are instantly recognizable (well, they are to those that know the show). Have you made them all yet? I can't seem to find any more pics in your photostream . I'd love to see you make a Deathscythe or Epyon one . Will you be making the Endless Waltz versions as well? Quote

As far as EW versions go, prolly not, the Original designs are more appealing in several ways compared to the EW versions IMO. Mike Quote

Mike Sorry, my bad. I misread your post and thought you said you had already finished them over the weekend. I kind of like the Endless Waltz versions, though, but maybe they'd be a bit too difficult to make as LEGO models, because they're much bigger and more complex than their original counterparts? Can't wait to see the others you're making . Quote
