Matn Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 The Gaunt House is located in the woods just outside Little Hanglenton. It was the home of Marvolo Gaunt and his children. The house is very small and they lived in poverty and deplorable conditions. Marvolo's daughter Merope is the mother of Voldemort. This is the place where Voldemort concealed Marvolo's ring, one of his Horcruxes. Later, Dumbledore found it and destroyed it. This creation depicts the scene where Harry and Dumbledore delve into Bob Ogden's memory as he goes to the Gaunt House. Ogden is confronted with Morfin, who has committed a crime. Later in the chapter Dumbledore tells about the ring and also how Merope became the mother of Voldemort. Just, the whole contest and especially the piece count (normally I'm under 1000 but I'll have to recount it). I started with the idea of making the Lovegood house, but it just didn't work out (I'm going to post some WIP pictures very soon), then I wanted to make a shop or something but I saw many of them already entered (awesome entries) so I wanted to stay original. Then I was going to make The Three Broomsticks in my usually style of Hogsmeade buildings, but that's also not very original for this contest. So I made something totally new, never seen before in LEGO and in the films. It's pretty important place and the Harry Potter vibe is still there I think. I just hope you'll like it! There's some tough competition in this contest, but it doesn't hurt to enter. Good luck to everyone! Quote
JimBee Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Looks good, I like the ramshackle look to it. The crooked bricks help with this. Nice detail with the snake pinned to the door, too. It doesn't look like it's over 1000 pieces, though, well below that, even. Quote
Izzy Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Very nice work Matn! Love the stone work and the tilting trees are super! A cute little cabin in the woods, makes me want to go on a Winter Break. It does look well below 1000, well well below. I was really surprised when making mine just how far 1000 pieces can spread. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Wonderful work as always Matn. I knew you'd have a great entry for this contest. The whole thing really looks terrific. I always love seeing your irregular bases; they turn the whole creation into a sort of vignette, which is wonderful. Like the others above, I'm sure your well under 1000, but that's absolutely fine. The shack is superb as is. Ogden isn't quite in the swimsuit as described in the book, but he certainly fits in with the film look this way. Your Morfin is great as well. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Very well done entry Matn! What really stands out in this build is the effective skewing of the bricks on the wall and the quite unique and interesting tree design. Overall this is a great entry with a very professional presentation. Best of luck! Quote
CMP Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I like this, a lot. Even the figs are accurate. The one thing I don't see - the 'Winter Break' part of the contest. It's still fantastic, but it doesn't look like it'd fit into this contest well. Quote

It's still fantastic, but it doesn't look like it'd fit into this contest well. What does that mean? Hinckley said in the contest thread that your MOC does not have to take place in winter; that is merely the title of the contest because the contest is being run in winter (in some parts of the world, anyway). The MOC doesn't have to incorporate anything wintry at all, it just has to be a building that isn't Hogwarts. I suppose you yourself could be looking for winter in your own criteria, but Matn's creation certainly fits into the terms of the contest just fine. Quote

buddy Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Outstanding entry! It is accurate and highly detailed. I too particularly like the stone walls of the house and the scenery. Extremely well done. ~buddy~ Quote
Mr.Brick Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Good work Matn! As a Potter fan I like it how you keep so true to the books, and you did it again here! Good luck in the comp. Quote
Geertos13 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Excelent entry Matn From the moment I discovered this contest I was hoping that you'd enter ! And yet, you pulled off with a wonderfull entry ! The Half blood prince is one of my favourite books of the series, and I'm making the hole book into a movie right now, So it's great to see one of the scenes the movie left out turned into LEGO. Your creations keep amazing me ! The Hog's Head, Mrs Puddifoot were my favourites but this is one excelent MOC too. I love the shack, it looks so old and broken, especially these dark grey tiles on the corners add even more personnality to the overall. I'm surprised this hasn't got thousands of comments already. I just found out about this creation, how I missed this before, I don't know... I've never liked that Tree building Technic. But that detail doesn't even matter in such a wonderful creation The minifigs are fantastic too, Morfin doesn't not only look stunning, but he also looks exactly like how I imagned him when I read the book. You're always so faithful to the original descriptions ! These different Greys really make the roof look dirty and creepy and the windows, ( even if they are in perfect condition ) Do absolutly look scary ! You never use LEGO doors, though you make them look great everytime. Nice technic once again, and the Snake looks perfect ! When I saw the Topic Title, I was, of course expecting something awesome, but I was also thinking of Merope, which you un-surprisingly left out. Ogden looks nice too, not exactly How I imagined him, but his facial expression, certainly is outstanding ! I'm glad you didn't make Lovegood's House, I think it wouldn't have looked this good ! But I must say, I'm exited to see these WIP pictures Once again, you've brought us an awesome Creation and this certainly ends up in my TOP 3 ! You defenatly have my vote ! Hoping to see more of your creations very soon, and best of luck in the Contest !( obviously you don't need luck, you're creation is just too good to be ignored and I'd be shocked and surprised if you didn't win anything ! ) Have a nice day, ladies and Gentleman I hope my comment hasn't been too long. But I simply coudn't resist giving a detailed comment on this Master piece ! Quote
fred67 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I have to agree that this is a great MOC... it's VERY MUCH, almost EXACTLY how I pictured it when reading the book. Quote
