Duke Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) The apothecary is lightly mentioned in the Harry Potter books and given no name until the films where a sign depicts it as Slugg and Jiggers. As such i've based it entirely on my imagination! 1) This first picture shows the entire building from a street view. 2) The second picture reveals the hinge mechanism which shows how the steps go down to an underground level common in many victorian houses. 3) Picture three gives an overview of the building from behind. The top level is a disused attic filled with boxes and chests. Notable are the brooms and quidditch balls. The middle floor (with light up brick in action) is a fancy town house, belonging to an old Slytherin student. Finally the basement floor is the Apothecary shop. 4) This picture shows all the details of the middle floor. A Slytherin crest predominates over the fireplace in a sparsley furnished room with a large bookcase and comfortable chair. 5) The final of my five pictures is the shop itself. A potion brews in the central cauldron, while the owner prepares ingredients on a stone slab; powdered unicorn horn. Around the shop are various pre prepared elixiers and potion ingredients. I hope you liked my entry and could see all the features and details reasonably from the photos. A few more close ups are available in my Brickshelf gallery when moderated. Geertos13 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Nice Entry Duke ! The front windows is nicely built and the inside is detailed enough to get the feeling of the creation. Putting the building up a big grey block does really makes a great Cellar effect ! Though from the front, that Grey Street block is a bit ugly. That little walk down to the front door is very ingenious though so that makes up for it ! I have already seen three Apothecaries ( Strange thing, considering it isn't that an extraordinary building ) and it's funny to see what everybody makes off it, not only all the entries are different but they have a complete different feeling to it, with most of the time, a fabulous architecting ! I love these differences ! Best of luck in the Contest Duke ! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Very nice entry Duke, a quite conservative build yet very effective. I love the smooth finish of the exterior and the hidden opening basement door. Good job overall and best of luck! Quote
Mr.Brick Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 A very good entry! It is finished off very well. I love it that you used the basement as the shop. The apothecary-person (how do you call such a person? :P) in action is portrayed very well too! Quote
buddy Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Great entry! The interior is detailed and the exterior has a nice look to it. I too particularly like the basement. Very well done. ~buddy~ Quote
maydayartist Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Oh my god, he cooks the invisibility cloak Nice entry, maybe out of the diagonal alley?! The fireplace enlightet is wonderful. I love it Quote
Gregorovich Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 That's an amazing MOC! I think it's really cool how the pavement folds open to reveal the staircase to the door. I might use it some day, if you don't mind! The interior is very nice, I especially like the Slytherin room. The window and the roof look good as well. Good work, and good luck in the competition! Vindice Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Very nice entry. Really like the basement aspect. If i could say one thing that maybe does not appeal to me it would be that the exterior looks a little clean when comparing it to the general look of diagon alley. I think it's the light colouring making it look slightly too modern for my tastes. Great build though and good luck. Quote
Matn Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Great apothecary. It's very different from the other buildings in the contest, it's more modern but it still looks very good. The green windows look very nice with the splashes of gold. The overall colours are lovely, white with a splash of green looks nice. The street looks a bit empty though, a figure or two would make it more exciting, perhaps an ill person walking down the stairs. The fact that you can open it up to reveal the entrance is a very nice idea. The interior is charming, nice book shelve and that chair is also good work. The fireplace looks also good, I love how everyone is using the light brick in their entries! Nice job on the apothecary owner himself, cutting up some unicorn horn. The piece of cloth gives a nice effect of some substance boiling in his cauldron. Good luck in the contest! Quote
