Legostein Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Hello everybody! Today I'd like to present two lesser known ships of the Imperial Navy to you. Both ships from the Expanded Universe have the same length and a similar ground design. -------------------- Let's start with the small Gladiator-class Star Destroyer (click here for a referene image). These ships were used as escorts in the Old Republic and later as long range patrol ship in the Imperial Navy. Some of you may remember the ship from the animated Drods TV series where we learn about the "Demolisher". These ships were probably the smallest ships given the description "Star Destroyer". It has a wedge shape like the real Star Destroyer but with a large cut-out on the front which is the entrance to a huge hangar bay. More images and instructions are available here. -------------------- The second ship for today is the Imperial Broadside-class Cruiser (click here for a reference image). This is a typical ship invented for computer games. It's a quite simple and not very exciting design. It appears in the "Empire at War" game series. There's one interesting aspect however: three centered cannons. That's an aspect not easy to realize when you have only two studs in width. Fortunately a SNOT-technique helped out. XimenaPaulina Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Excellent minis as always legostein! The overall shape is spot-on as usual. I particularly like the Demolisher, very clever use of the lightsaber hilts and 2x4 piece (forgot the exact term) for the ship's bridge. Quote

I definitely remember the Demolisher, somehow when I was young I always thought it more intimidating than the Imperial-class. Maybe because of the split front that gives it a 'fanged' look. On the contrary, I like that you're showing your appreciation for older Expanded Universe and introducing classic material to n00bs who wouldn't have known otherwise people who are newer to the franchise. Besides, I enjoy seeing Thrawn ships like the Alliance Assault Frigate( ) and the Dreadnaught battlecruiser( ) in LEGO form, as well as video game classics like the Xg-1 and bounty hunter ships like the IG-2000 and the Hound's Tooth.
